Please reconsider your speaker placement. With the speakers cramped into a corner the T7V will have a lot more (perceived) bass due to the rear sided ports. However, that's far from being accurate low end information, but mostly build up of room modes in the corner. Therefore, you're hearing more bass than there actually is in your mix. In my opinion, some of your videos could need some more bass. An affordable measurement microphone can be a very helpful tool. (It might actually be handy for some videos.) When it comes to mixing, speaker placement etc. I can't recommend @PresentDayProduction enough.

Excellent video, mate!! I bought a pair of the A7V last year. My best audio purchase in 20 years. These beasts are amazing for my desktop PC gaming/music setup.

I haven’t tackled adding studio monitors to my setup yet, but after watching this I think I’ll invest in a pair of Adam Audio monitors. The audio quality of your videos are always great whether you are speaking or playing guitar and I’d imagine having good reference monitors helps. The AV7 looks like a great set to own, however I think I’ll try the T7V first (kinder to my wallet 🤪). Thanks Shane for sharing!🎸🎸🎸👍🏾😎

I picked up a pair of gently used T7Vs for $200 to replace my KRK classic 5s. They're awesome. I can only imagine what the A7Vs are like but for now I'm happy.

Hey Shane, is there any chance you can look at the new lefty player plus strat?

sold my rokits about 8 months ago as i moved back to aus for a time. been tossing around t7v or a7v. looks like i am more financial than expected and the a7v s will be in my chrissy stocking. Still have a sub to consider but then again, see what comes out first. Its a bit hard to gauge from your camera mic, both sound much the same. But a little extra head room always, i mean always sounds better.

I used to own a pair of rokits that had a low-grade hum interference/sound going on that I thought might be inherent in the rokits, I’m wondering if it’s more common (is it?). I'm wondering if the Adams have this problem (either of the speakers you presented today).

These are way better than my KRK's. I have the Rokit 8 and I found them way too scooped on the low end that made mixing tough. I never noticed the interference before, that sounds more like a cable issue or grounding issue.

Thanks for review. I want to use 2 A7V in my 40m2 room. Will use for some mixing, sometimes for playing guitar with processor sometimes just for listing music. Is it enough for 40m2 room? Do i need subwoofer?

You can always add a subwoofer later. I think the a7v will go a long way to fill that size room

gonna try the t7v with a eq/dsp DAC and see how that goes.

This model integrates with the Sonarworks room correction software. I'd be interested to hear what you think of the combination.

Well done. Any thoughts on the fatiguing aspect of the speakers? Like I have some older Tannoy's that just kill my ears, and I have the same thing with my Focal's. Basically I have to listen to them extremely quietly. I kind of end up liking some cheaper Jbl's because they don't have that problem. Also, I don't think it's just high frequency which bugs me, some of it seems to be the speed of the transient. For a follow up, would be neat if you notice more extended low end as the speakers loosen up. Part of the Focal manual is run them fairly loud for 20 hours before really using them, and it helped those a lot. Just some thoughts, and thanks.

I don't seem to have a huge problem with that and the original T7V speakers after using them for years. I don't mix super-loud though. We'll see how we go over the next few weeks.

@Adam...I suspect, based on your description here, you won't like either of these speakers. The ribbon tweeters I think you'll find too fatiguing to the point of sibilance. Whilst you mention both Tannoy (I'm assuming gold) and Focal (could be any model), neither with ribbons, and so likely nowhere near as potentially fatiguing as the Adam's. However, as these are monitoring speakers, they don't necessarily translate to the most enjoyable home audio speakers & you've not mentioned their purpose. Of course, listening for enjoyment or for monitoring is very much a personal preference, albeit monitoring speakers are designed to have a comparatively flat eq response compared to home speakers & for many don't translate well to the most enjoyable home listening experience. I'd suggest giving Kali lp6 a listen. They've largely been considered the 'best' monitor speakers without venturing into the way more expensive lines. If budget isn't much of a consideration, the options are many. Cheers

@@AdamGotheridge Nope... As a general rule ribbons provide greater detail & depending on the sound signature often are a tad more forward in the mix, so to some they'll be 'bright' . Some love it and others not so much, especially as it's nearfield listening. I love ribbons/electro statics etc on many headphones and crazy high end audio. But, I'm not especially a fan for my monitoring purposes mostly due to occasional fatigue and what feels like a high frequency forward sound. Cheers.

I don't really understand your comments about filling a room as neither are designed to do so as nearfield monitors. So, if the newer model is louder of course they'll do that better, but that's not what they are for. I enjoyed the video thanks Shane and did consider the newer model a while ago before I decided on my purchase. All speakers with ribbon tweeters will sound a bit more detailed (as a general rule) in the higher frequencies by design. Whether that is a desirable feature or not is a matter of preference. Of course any speaker design has multiple pros & cons and testing out a variety of speakers, just as with home audio is typically the best advice for anybody. Also, in terms of mixing, getting to know your speakers is really a key factor. One can mix on just about anything reasonably well if they understand the sound profile of their speakers. Beyond that, testing a mix on a variety of speakers from home to car etc is still extremely important no matter how much you've spent on your monitors. Cheers.

I know when I looked at the A7x's years ago they were pricey then. I'd hate to see what they come in at now! Back then, I don't think they had the T7V to compete in the entry level market. And they didn't have the control software either. But you're right, they are fantastic sounding speakers. I think you might have to justify whether they're worth the additional cost for what your main use case is.

A7V is the rarest tank ever. Only one of 20 built survives today. Interesting named for a tank tuff speakers also built in Berlin

Your room is untreated and you put the speakers in the corners which is wrong. At least the corners should be treated.

No, you'd need an interface to run the unit to, which in turn will have the inputs you need from your modeler. The interface is what will manage the output of the powered monitors, which for efficiency, you run at full power. I'm actually not aware of a decent set of powered monitors that allows you to control volume from the speakers. Cheap speakers do, but ADAMs are "real studio grade" monitors.

Bazman is right. Get an audio interface or mixer to run the volume. I wouldn't run the headrush directly to them.

Great video, the Adam A7V are truly excellent speakers. $800 each in the United States but worth it. I recommend the Zoom R20 at $350 in the United States and the Tascam dp24sd at $600 United States price. Both mixers are ideal for recording at home without breaking the bank. I would love to see you review the Godin Radium winchester brown RN, it's a telecaster on steroids from Godin only $1049.00 at Sweetwater music in the United States.
