I actually learned that it was at Michael Jackson's insistence that Adam perform at this event. Apparently MJ was a big fan of Adam's work and persuaded Motown to include the Dandy Highwayman.

oh hells ya! adam rocked it!!!! and diana was too cool for makin that special appearance on stage like that! classic footage of an awesome entertainer who puts most to shame to this day! he could even rock motown baby!!!!

@myabsynthedream In fact she did him a favour by showing the audience that it was completely ok for him to sing her song. Don't forget that it was MOTOWN 25 and that Diana Ross & The Supremes were going to reunite later on in that show so evrybody in that audience must have thought it was strange for 1. an English artist coming to celebrate Motown 25 and 2. for singing The Supremes' first #1 hit.

I am a big Soft Cell fan but Adam's version of this song is sooooo much hotter!!! I've been watching this vid now for more than 20 times in a row and still can't get enough of it. I am 41 but in love with Adam like a teenager ;-)

it took them awhile to cheer then, they must have had No clue who he was back then, and im not sure how into the new romantic getup America was at the time. but he won em over. he is that damn good :D

Sorry,wrong,you CAN stand on a fractured femur.I worked 50 hrs weeks/plus gym w/ fractured femur/3 mths before diagnosed(1st dr said was pulled muscle)was hairline fracture,later found out biggest bone in body.Head of femur where femur meets hip.I was limping around like that,working etc,before the operation w/no clue!Some people when need be,endure huge amounts of pain.That's what Adam was doing.Doing his job!The show must go on. Imagine the prima donas of today?Canceled Concerts!

I remember this performance. I was blown away. I had such a crush on him, the clothing, the hair, the beats the moves and they slick way he sang! Oh Adam! Diana please, you were so rude to steal his thunder. I noticed how he kept looking over to see if she'd come back. lol not cool
