It sucks that Kevin & Adam had a falling out. Kevin TOTALLY BOUGHT IN to it. He was far more energetic & into the music than Tibbs was. Tibbs was a more technical player, but Kevin’s energy & the fact that he completely played the role of an “ant,” is why the shows that featured him on bass were more high energy. Just listen to the shows with Tibbs in comparison. With Mooney on stage, the ants played harder & faster. I think it was that combo of Adam’s energy & Kevin’s. It just seemed to fuel the entire band. Even Marco got into it more.

Mr. PlateTwo, sh... just listen to Mooney’s vocals! He was INTO IT! He put his all into. Tibbs sang, but didn’t add the hoots & hollers like Mooney. Mooney made the live vocals sound more like the studio versions with his backup vocals.

Kevin Money did not like the fact that Adam and the Ants were commercial and wanted to be part of a punk band with all the attitude that went with it. Adam had had enough of struggling as a punk and wanted to go in a different direction. Mooney did not want to do the Children's Royal Variety Performance as it was not in the anti-showbiz approach that punk promoted. Thus, KM just acted like he did not care - jumping around and not miming. Adam decided to sack him after that!Mooney also undermined Adam on numerous occasions - like when Adam overdubbed Mooney's bass line on Antmusic only for Mooney to then overdub Adam's overdub! There is more about this here: www.adamandtheants.org/ant-talk/interview-kevin-mooney-2001

@kurtvanderbogarde8402

@@michaellavery4899 this is more or less true, the figure is more like 5 tracks - Kings title track, Ants Invasion, Killer In The Home (all of which he'd already played on the Ants Invasion tour in May/June 1980) plus The Human Beings is very audibly Kevin and possibly either Making History or The Magnificent Five too. (Kevin also played on a bunch of CBS B-sides - Press Darlings, Physical, Fall In, Beat My Guest and the unused Fat Fun but again, he'd already played all of these on the Ants Invasion Tour.) The other seven songs on the album Kevin himself has admitted he wasn't yet up to the standard of being able to play the definitive versions, so Adam played the bass parts. One track, Don't Be Square, only ever got done live once Gary joined as there was no way Kevin could have coped with that funky disco-style bass line.

just Dog Eat Dog, this and Physical. We're very lucky to finally have this - it's been showing up on the screens at conventions for years but actual copies have been jealously guarded until now. @@mrwuspigs This was a common issue in the old days when film shot for cinema got copied to video or broadcast on TV. Film gets shot for cinema at 24 frames per second and then sped up to 25 fps to match the 50 fps of TV (one frame of film to match two frames of video). The same problem exists on the DVD release of Jubilee and on old time VHS copies of Marc Bolan's "Born To Boogie" film. That said, the original studio recording backing track of Kings was deliberately sped up one semitone to give it a brisker pace, so on the record it plays in the key of F whereas live it would usually play in the key of E. As this is also sped up, it matches the pitch on the record.

if a band emerged like this now on stage i'm not sure what people would think, apart from the prodigy who i love too, it would be a stark contrast to current performers, they need to watch and learn, this is just so unique and mind blowing. I was young when I first saw them and no digital devices back them to remember..
Adam and the ants will forever be my favourite. An advantage of living with my grandparents they tell me all about this music
Saw them at St Georges hall in Bradford in the early 80s and they played this song but this is the best version I have seen and heard. Unique band and a steroid performance.

Bill Kosses went to 2 Adam Ant concerts and he was fantastic.They were underrated
0:45,alto pogo!!

@dannyvine3605

In Adams autobiography he states that Kevin only played bass on 4 tracks on King's of the Wild Frontier. Don't know what to make of that.
@kurtvanderbogarde8402
4 жыл бұрын
I had plans to go see this tour in San Francisco but got sick. I was 16 years old
Excellent stuff....this was the best Ants era to me, Kev Mooney on bass....Mint!!!!

just Dog Eat Dog, this and Physical. We're very lucky to finally have this - it's been showing up on the screens at conventions for years but actual copies have been jealously guarded until now. Even on Ant Lib's Warriors 4 DVD, it was split into two with a middle bit hacked out and the two halves placed at either end of the DVD.

@kurtvanderbogarde8402
4 жыл бұрын
Is there a full show available from this performance? This is probably the best Ant live footage I've ever seen.... so far, have only seen their performances of "Dog Eat Dog", "Physical" and now this, from this show.
