So the moral of the story is even death can't change what's in one's fate, the death/grim reaper tried to spare the girl but the fate wouldn't allow it and so the Grim still had to reap the girl's soul ...

She was going to die no matter what. Her death was postponed, but in the end she was still hit by the cart.

I think the death came to collect her soul, because he knows the girl will die soon as she will be hit by the horse and carriage. But if death collects her soul, she will not be able to be a ghost. So the death lets her died, and brings the ghost girl with him. I guess?
