Bill Murray always plays himself in movies. He has this funny ongoing joke about him, where he’ll be places you’d never expect because he’s famous. I’m zombieland, he was HIMSELF which it why it was hilarious. In real life, he showed up to a place where construction workers were and just worked with them for no reason. He’s known for just “popping up” places. Movies too. When you watch ghostbusters, he’s so unamused by the situations because it’s literally HIM just popping up in random scenarios, in reali life, and in movies. When you watch most of his movies he has this unamused attitude. One time at a restaurant, he walked up to a woman and apparently ate her fry and said “no one will believe you.” He’s known for randomly being places.

I've always felt like the space jam worship was from people who only vaguely remembers the movie. It had some good one-off humor and stuff and it had MICHAEL FREAKING JORDAN in his prime, but it always felt like a bunch of cartoonists got locked in a room and told they weren't allowed to get lunch until they finished, so they just quickly improvised a "plot". And even as a little girl, the sexualization of female characters made me really uncomfortable.it would have been one thing if it was like "oh she's so pretty! Let's all be nice to her". But there's something weird about watching a bitch of cartoons try to get some hot bunny action that's just bizarre (and not in the good way)

Not being an American, I lost the original domestic reception, but the history I have read is as follows: it was fairly succesful with the main target public, children, and it revitalized the Loony Tunes before theneyes of a generation more familiar with the Tiny Toonies even if it was not the hit the partnership of Jordan and Bugs would make one think it could be. However, as the '90s gave way to the 2000s, said children became cynical teenagers and young adults, and the whole social climate changed, too. The people who had the most reason to remember the movie fondly started to see it for the exercise in commercialism and opportunism it (in part) was. More recently, the nostalgia for the sweet '90s of their childhood and early adolescence (i.e. the yearning for a simpler and arguably less awful time) did its work, and Space Jam started to be seen as an enjoyable artificial of its time. Probably not iconic enough to deserve a sequel or something like, but good fun nevertheless.

Meanwhile, Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003) starring Brendan Fraser has absolutely no flaws and can be compared to other cinematic masterpieces such as Shrek (2001) and Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleased (2004).

The thing with the first Space Jam was that it was a hail mary of a concept that really only worked because Michael Jordan who was at the time probably the most famous person in the world. He was still in his prime and at the height of his popularity. The movie also featured a who's who of other basketball hall of famers. The new movie by comparison comes at a time when basketball has lost a lot of its popularity and Lebron is in the twilight of his carrier.

I've seen Space Jam only partially once during my last year of highschool while on a school trip in Toronto. I was sitting alone in a hotel room while everyone was off doing other things in the hotel, so I was pretty lonely and bored. I turned on the TV, tried to find a channel with something other than static and then, there it was, Space Jam. I thought "Eh, I've heard it sucks but that's all I have to watch" and so I watched. And the film started maybe a few minutes before the scene where they inflate the fat guy after he gets flattened. I did not sleep well that night.

I can’t help but think there is an intentional parallel between the Looney Tunes being captured by an evil theme park in the movie (made in 1997) and in real life, Six Flags acquired the rights of Looney Tunes in 1984 and used them to market Six Flags. Six Flags also has a park named Magic Mountain. Idk, just thought it was interesting! Edit: oops it’s tunes not toons

Well you can definitely get away with calling them "The Looney Toons", cause the show itself is about the music, the tunes, but the characters are cartoons, so it makes more sensr to call em toons imo.

When I was younger, my brother and I sometimes went to this after school program run by our mom’s work. I remember one week it was raining so we weren’t allowed to play outside. We got to vote on a movie to watch and, for four days straight, Space Jam won. I have loathed Space Jam with a burning passion since then, so this video makes me feel vindicated.

That’s why the original Space Jam works whereas the new one doesn’t. Space Jam 1 played up the absurdity of situations and gave stupid, looney tunes styled solutions to them like pumping a guy with air after he got flattened, whereas Space Jam 2 is just references to other movies and shows. It’s not the Looney Tunes, it’s some executives trying to make a quick buck with the Looney Tunes

Yea I wasnt understanding where he was going with certain points. I was sitting here just thinking, "well isn't that the point of looney tunes ? To be in looney, wacky impossible situations ??" The first space jam gave exactly what needed to be given, stayed pretty faithful to the cartoon.
