Actors Who Starred in Film & TV Together

A very short list of actors who've had a chance to play on TV as well as in a theatrical film together. It's more rare than you'd think, especially if both actors had relatively significant roles in both.
If you can think of any other two actors, who aren't on the list - especially from TV and Movies that are from the '60s, '70s, and '80s - I'd love to know about it!

Harris Yulin and Janet Margolin were together in the courtroom scene of Ghostbusters 2 in 1989. They had appeared together in S.W.A.T S2E8 Vigilante (10/25/75).

I love it! That's it! On another note, Yulin is such an underappreciated actor.

Genuinely interesting that Ed Harris & Madeleine Stowe appeared on "Barnaby Jones" together in 1979. Charles Bronson's casting director's hiring of John Ritter & Norman Fell (pre- three's Company) isn't the only occasion this has taken place. Randall Carver (John Burns from first season of Taxi) has a cameo in Bronson's "Murphy's Law. Twice Oscar nominated actor Vincent Gardenia (Death Wish 1& 2) appears with oscar winning (A Thousand Clowns) actor Martin Balsam (Death Wish 3 & Stone Killer) on a 4th season episode of one of my favorite 60s shows "The Fugitive". Also Hope Lange (Bronson's wife from Death wish 1) and Bronson himself also guest star separately on other 4th (color) season episodes of the fugitive. Balsam would go on to play Murray Klein, Archie Bunker's business partner on "Archie Bunker's Place". Gardenia, many assorted appearances but most notably a regular on "All In The Family" as a neighbor of the Bunker family after The Jeffersons moved out(and George and Wheezie's realtor.) Not to mention Jeff Goldblum (DW1) and Laurence Fishburne (DW2) in Deep Cover. To round it all off for casting clashes, Christopher Guest & Jeff Goldblum , who both had appeared seperately in the first "Death Wish" movie played a gay couple in Robert Altman's little seen 1987 misfire "Beyond Therapy". Also Bruce Dern may have met Diane Ladd on "The Fugitive". They appeared together on a season 2 episode. You also forgot Ed Harris and Madeleine Stowe also appeared in the dark thriller "Unlawful Entry" together, too. Also, Rob Reiner's marriage to fellow TV producer descendant actor turned director Penny Marshall may not have had staying power. He must have made many future friends and business associates on the set of "Laverne & Shirley". Not just Michael Mc kean (lenny) but Guest and Harry Shearer and many other Spinal Tap alums earlier appeared on Laverne & Shirley(!)

Woah! Somehow I missed this gem. Thank you for this post Matthew! I really like "Deep Cover", I never hear anyone talk about it. Lots of great info in this! I didn't know about "Unlawful Entry", I'm going to have to watch that movie soon. I'm guessing you're a pretty big fan of "Death Wish", and the TV series "The Fugitive"? Lots of great connection made there. Damn that Michael McKean, getting Annette O'Toole (sigh)...

Fishburne on a talk show (forgot which. There have been so many) mentioned "Deep Cover" and that led me to watch the first 3 DW movies (I for the record cannot name ANY of the luminaries who may have participated with Bronson on the latter 2 of the 5). After witnessing Balsam (one of the truly great supporting performers) on the fire escape in the 3rd one with the semi automatic I watchedno further. For the record, I find the situation and theme of the franchise deeply troubling. I have a great memory and remember a lot of these facts. The Fugitive TV show (not to mention Andrew Davis' wonderful movie adaptation with Harrison Ford) has been a favorite.

@@matthewguilliom6933 I couldn't agree with you more about Martin Balsam being one of the great character actors.

Great call! I remember the first time I saw "Fade in to Murder", thinking that the guy sort of looked like Chekov but that it had to be a different person.

..And one of the stranger ones (in this case movies to TV. In Elvis' last dramatic movie "Change Of Habit", Mary Tyler Moore (in the leading role) and Ed Asner (supporting work) appear together before the MTM show. Jamie Farr (Klinger) and William Christopher (Father Mulcahy) play members of the same (inept, G Rated) motorcycle gang in the Doris Day bomb "With 6 You Get Eggroll". BBC example. Before As Time Goes By, Geoffrey Palmer appears with John Cleese first as a long string of unhappy hotel visitors on an episode of "Fawlty Towers" before appearing again in Cleese's 1988 farce "Clockwise". There's doubtless many more you and I have neither of us knowledge of.

Thank you for participating! Great examples! The first thing that sprang to mind, when you said Geoffrey Palmer, was he and Judi Dench both starring in "As Time Goes By", as well as "Tomorrow Never Dies" and "Mrs. Brown".

Not only did you hit it nail on by giving a thumbs down to Tony Danza and Danny De Vito's big screen yawnfest "Going Ape". Right you also were to point out how peculiar chimps were marketable @ that moment in movies and TV.
