Active listening cancels out indifferences, thus creating more subcategories and the Ego LOVES getting and feeling intellectualized!! :)

I love the moment where at 38 seconds you've been doing the active listening on Russ and repeating things back to him and for a split second he catches on and you have that stupid grin on your face because you're so happy with yourself :)

Great video & good to see Russ back. Just want to say that the waitress study you mention was about "parrot phrasing" not paraphrasing. The waitress used the customers exact words when repeating the orders back. She did not "sum up" what the customers had said or paraphrase what they had said. Using a persons exact words and not paraphrasing them has been shown to be much more powerful than paraphrasing or summing up. Best wishes for 2013 to Marcus and Russ.

Even though these series of videos are old, they are very informative and practical. I wish you kept making more after 2016. Keep up the good work!

@Marcus: I've started reading your free ebook and you talked about Sasha. Is he the same Sasha that I see here on KZread as regards to dating/pick up? Just curious

what do you do when you realize you don't want to continue with the conversation how would i excuse myself? is there some sort of active leaving?

There are a bunch of non verbal cues you can use -and I expect we could do a video on this! The not so subtle one is to stop adding any content to the conversation. Acknowledge conversational offers as they come up ("that's great" etc) but don't provide any more input. After a few cycles, the conversation will wane and you can give a reason to leave ("Hey, it's been great talking to you I have to go do x,y,z"). Interestingly a 'tell' that you'll sometimes spot in the bodylanguage of others is if they turn their body away from you...as if to exit the conversation. This posture can often give you a clue to their thoughts at that time that they need to head off or you need to put a little more effort in engaging them. Hope this helps!

I work in the hospitality industry. I do this all the time with my guest and customers as front desk associate. And the reviews show for it.

+Unlimited Progress Shake it to the beat baby! Not everyone is a master conversationalist and anyone can improve the way they communicate, even by a little. With more people glued to technology, social skills suffer, which is a shame.

+YourCharismaCoach Yeah, I guess you're right.. .. Just kinda weird for someone like myself whos super social by nature.. I think growing up in one of the biggest cities (NYC) it just came to me naturally.. I'm 24 yrs old but I find myself talking to people of all ages and walks of life with ease.. and never had any type of anxiety or hesitation to talk to any men or women... What I was shaking my head over was the adding formulas to teach conversation lol.. But hey, it's probably helpful for alot of your subscribers.. so It is what it is! I originally found your channel when looking at NLP videos. i think you had a talk with Igo Ledochowski, which was cool.
