Act Up! feat. Jonathan Roumie: "We Do Voices"

Фильм және анимация

Yes indeed, Jonathan and I "do voices". A first ever for the Act Up Podcast, we have VIDEO! I interview my good mate Jonathan Roumie who stars as Jesus in the television series The Chosen. We chat about how Jonathan prepared for the role, standing in for Russell Brand on "Ballers" and how voicing claymation celebrities got him his start in the industry. Hope you enjoy!

Watching this, it's easier to see the difference between Jonathan and him as Jesus. Such a difference even in his physicality and face! I know there is a bit of costume and makeup that helps but he looks very much like him. Same with George and John. I can see the acting in their character work. They are great professionals.

Thank you George for this interview with Jonathan. For me his Jesus in The Chosen series is actually in the voice….. I do not know - other people say “his eyes, his acting, his looks” but for me it is HIS VOICE and words he is saying in each episode. Obviously you can call it technique but what this “technique” has now produced worldwide for people watching him as Jesus…you just wonder now how this is possible just from acting technique and stillness? Sometimes he complained in his interviews having only 5 lines in episodes BUT … those 5 lines spoken in HIS VOICE are liquid gold and ethereal.

Liquid Gold. That was a perfect descriptive phrase!! There is something very special about Jonathan’s portrayal of Jesus. Not to sound hokey, but his portrayal of Jesus brought me back to prayer. I always prayed, but in my own way, and now I’m seeing the rosary again. So whatever the magic is, whether it’s in the story or the actors, or both combined it’s helping me spiritually, and I’m very grateful for that.

I love how every season shows another side of Jesus. I love "scolding Jesus" in sons of thunder when he gets frustrated with John and big James. "You think you're so much better? Well let me tell you something. You're not. And that's the whole point" . My favorite lines in the whole series.

This was fascinating. Your questions and answers depened my already big respect for the work of actors. And also, with some people, as soon as you start looking closer, they go: „Poof!“, just hot air. With Jonathan it’s the exact opposite. The closer you look, the more you'll end up finding deep layers, all built up with humility from the ground up. Thank you for your own respectful way of allowing that to surface. Looking forward to the "to be continued". :-)

Mr. Xanthis, (dear Sir) I've been watching candid interviews of various actors of Jenkins T.V. Special. I especially like your (even though it's a year after you published this in youT)... you dive into deep questions with acting itself. What I think I love the most, is not only how comfortably you respectfully ASK questions, but how you make the person feel, as you are interviewing . Kudos (as it's said, these days) to you. Please continue with these v.good interactions and interviews. I hope others gain insights as deeply as Roumie and you get (and share). Thanks for this perspective.

Good guestions for Jonathan personally and with characters he's portrayed in his work experience. And with famous actors as he mentioned during your conversation on that topic. Obviously shows in the Chosen art acting skills . Emotional and non verbal cues to use . That was like inside World of talking shop between actors . It was interesting. I am a bit of a worrier and would probably have had a mini mental breakdown at some point. 😊. I hope you have Johnathan back. I would really love to know if he feels that the more people that you know in the industry, the more of an opportunity one would have to get into the acting business? I think that everything Jonathan did in his life was God‘s plan. And he had to go through a lot of learning, hardships, tears, seclusion, understanding, suffering, loneliness and immense patience etc. which in a way is sad, but what an unforgettable learning experience….Nevertheless, he always had that close bond, a close loving relationship with our dear Lord who had it all planned out for him. This was really fascinating to listen to. I thank you so very much for all the work that you put into this and I look forward to many more from you in the future. Take care and all the very best to you, Susan from very cold Canada. PS: we still have at least 3 feet of snow everywhere you look. I don’t like the cold and I always used to tease my late mother for giving birth to me in such a cold country. Of course I was joking but as they say, there’s always a little bit of truth in every joke. Thank you so much once again George and may you and your loved ones be blessed.

I've listened to all the episodes of this podcast, and love the video version. Anyway, won't you publish the audio version anymore? My Spotify isn't updating anymore in your podcast.

I've been looking for more "Act Up" podcasts from George, too. They're quite enjoyable: informative, entertaining, and sincere.
