Interesting, practical demonstration of the pitfalls of acrylic size 🤔
Brilliant! Love it , thank you. Acrylic finishes are amazing, fast drying etc but as you point out they do have limitations and never to be used on antiques or any quality pieces. Thanks again really enjoying this mini series.
Wow! I liked it even without the gilding! ❤
great lesson on the acrylic size
its done so neatly it turned out pretty
Love it. You've given me an idea for when I get back in my workshop. I wonder if I can hot glue buttons onto a wood turned item? Something to think about.

You definitely can, Miss Tee!
I'm impressed. 😊 Ruth, just curious, gold leaf size, any comparisons you've found over the years with different brands?

All seem just as bad when your use to oil size.

@@RuthTappinGilder Sorry, I stated that wrong, I meant comparisons among the oil sizes, like DUX, etc.

@@diamondgirl999 😁sorry. I used to use handover and Robertson, but have ended up on Le Franc that's seems to work well for me. Haven't tried the Kölner one.

@@RuthTappinGilder Thank you, Ruth, I can buy that brand here.
No way you went into this with no idea how to do it. I would have never figured out how to do that.

I'm use to working stuff out, if it hadn't of worked I had in the back of my head that the hot glue gun would do it 😁

@@agomodern thanks 😊 just glad the back is not in view. I did think about doing two and putting them back to back, would work if the back was on view.

@@RuthTappinGilder Hot glue two identical sets (size-wise at least) of back-to-back buttons. You can then UV resin or hot glue them to each other - hot glue can get a bit messy obvs... 🥴 Using a silicone 'cling mat' to stop them moving about as you build the shape is helpful! You could also glue them back-to-back on a lolly stick (popsicle for our US friends). If bits of stick are on view and they bother you, then tiny rocaille beads fill in those spaces nicely, or you can snip out the lolly stick where it's visible using some cuticle nippers. Either way, I think this star is lovely, and looks great atop your tree!
