Hi Cathy. WOW! This is different to anything you have done before! It's amazing! The colours, the quality of light, the texture, the contrast, and those white lines, and of course the overall composition all work together beautifully. I honestly believe that in time you will view this painting as a significant turning point for you, Cathy. Thank you. Colin. :)

Thank you Jill. Glad you enjoyed the video. 💜 The brushes I used on this piece are actually from Wish. I usually work with dry brushes and to blend I bring in a clean brush or a brush with some of the color I want to blend with. www.wish.com/search/paintbrushes/product/57bd1c0509fdbe4eb8934a22?source=search&position=11&share=web

Your paper seems to take a lot of paint and a lot of brushwork without tearing or buckling, and I don't think you gesso it first. Is it a 140lb mixed media notebook?

I gesso all my pages Betsy. The paper in my old journal was 130 gsm. The paper in this one is like cardstock. I think its ment more for scrapbooking then painting. ;) The pages in all my journals buckle, but they always straighten themself out after a while.

I absolutely love this one!!! Ok...so, obviously I knew I could NEVER EVER make anything even close to as beautiful as yours...but I loved watching your process and loved how you always say not to think, just add lines or colors...at least as you begin...and since I am a rabid overthinker, even in my art thus being loose is something I ache for but can't do, so thought I would use my larger sketchbook and try. Being cheap(with reason after basically no work for the last year) I decided to tape my 9x12 page into 2 and go back and forth hoping that would lend to less concentration as well because when drawing flowers and such for my watercolor cards I do better when I get a bunch going and have to go back n forth, like I don't have time to over think....but apparently there's always time to overthink, says my evil little brain🥺 so...I definitely want one of the rollers because I love the lines it makes at the edges and how it moves and blends the paint and I couldn't get the same look with my palette knives. I had some needle nose bottles I use for alcohol inks, but I think the tip is fatter on mine and/or my mixture was too wet but it made too fat of lines, especially on a small piece. Blah blah blah...to sum up, it wasn't good. And I know you keep at it knowing you can fix it...but I seems to only make it worse. I did also do a bit of an experiment for myself...I don't normally gesso much of anything first...but had to try...so one of the boxes I did and the other, I didn't. Then I made some lines with a 6b pencil and it was SO interesting how much deeper & blacker it came out on the gesso one!! I loved that!! And I liked the texture using the gesso, because on that one I used gesso for all the white and white paint for the no gesso one..so that was interesting. They ended up maybe too dark and probably no focal point and I kept overthinking, big surprise. But, it was fun to try! I also used some charcoal and what turned out to be my fave was a terra cotta color pastel and when I blended that it was so beautiful. So, they're ugly, but it was fun and ill definitely keep trying! So thank you so much for your videos and being such an inspiration :)

Oh this makes me so happy, because the process is actually more important then the result! You just found so many new things that appeal to you by trying! Keep them in a virtual toolbox and use them in your work and they will all become part of your artistic voice. . Hope thing work out with your work situation. I know how frustrating it can be! Wish you the best! 🌸🍃

@@CathyMevik thanks so much Cathy! Sorry it took so long to get back...my Rheumatoid arthritis has been giving me a lot of trouble and I haven't been able to do much of anything for a good while. But I'm still able to watch your videos and they keep my brain focused on beauty and things I want to try, (I've probably told you this already 😳🙄) but it helps me more then I can say to be able to watch your, and others, videos when I'm wrecked by this old body of mine.
