I feel like this guy doesn't really get his due credit when it comes to writing. His playthrough of their song "Captain Clock" is the one that really struck me as being something out of the ordinary. He is really good at making weird riffs and melody lines work

He gets plenty of credit. Jackson Guitars sponsors him. He's just doesn't like the limelight. Eugene (bass) is the spokesperson for the band.

I am such a fan, and I think a lot of the magic in the guitar writing gets lost with the whole band. However, what I adore is how it is in support of the song!!!

He’s an incredible composer and player. Doesn’t get mentioned along with the great guitarists in metal probably because their music doesn’t require shreddy solos and lead parts. He certainly plays to serve the song, and when you watch him live or in these isolated play throughs, you get a better look at how talented and competent he is as a guitar player.

Jinjer by far, are my favorite musicians of any genre and it's easy to forget how great Roman plays when he is masqueraded by other top shelf musicians. If he was in any other band, he would be the shining light and stand out as the driving force, but when coupled with Vlad and Eugene and their genus, Roman almost goes unnoticed; which in itself is amazing! The Guitar Playthrough showcases what a creative master he is in his craft... yes, others can "copy" what Roman created, and may add their own twist, but they are not the creative genus that stitched together the riffs, chords, and chugs that make up this masterpiece. Stan, thank you for reacting to both the live and playthrough; Pit of Consciousness is one of my many Jinjer favorites. Cheers, JT

you pointed out something at the end EXACTLY correct and something i always have said about him and marveled at... he is not stingy with the riffs... meaning... he could throw in a riff he will literally play ONE TIME in the entire song (like the outro riff of this song which is a fucking BANGER) while if i came up with that riff (and most artists we know) they would make an entire song out of it... he will have 5 or 6 mind blowing riffs in every song and JUST MAKE MORE... and his riffs dont' have a designated spot on the fretboard either, he is all over the place, flying around making us feel like puny mortals he is my top of the list of favorite guitarists and he is so unassuming about it

Roman makes such good decisions on what to play and what not to play. The band started out with two guitar players so when the second guitar was no longer there Roman had to decide what to throw out and what not to in songs. The result in some cases is that some of the older songs actually sound better. Who is Gonna be the One and Cloud Factory in particular. No dig at Dmitri the other guitar player but they managed to flesh those songs out with one guitar in a way I haven't seen before. All you have to do is compare the album versions with the live versions with the current lineup to see that. Once they moved beyond the King of Everything Album (which was the first with Roman on his own) he and Eugene took that skill of filling spaces with a three piece instrumental to the extreme and this song is a perfect example. Absolutely no need for any other guitar parts. It weaves in and out of the sections of the song and there isn't a hole in the sound that isn't filled.

As far as Jinjer songs go, this one is very doable. The timing is straightforward, pulling off the chord shapes fast enough and getting the proper touch for his mute chug from the strings is what makes it hard IMO.

great song. great live performance. i'd have to say that my favorite Jinjer Playthrough vid is Eugene's bass playthrough of Home Back (you'd understand why within about the first 2 seconds why). since you seem to be up for Double Features, might i suggest Babymetal - Monochrome ; OMV and Piano version. you won't be disappointed. Great reaction! I totally agree--in fact all of the guys' genius goes a little under the radar in this band. I mean everyone loves Eugene, but until you watch one of his playthrough videos you don't fully appreciate how amazing his bass playing really is. Same with Vlad. It's difficult to concentrate on any one instrument amid the complexity of their compositions. And these are classical level compositions. With jazz underpinnings. I've been playing rock bass over 45 years, and I'm into progressive players like Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, Stu Hamm, rock shredders like Billy Sheehan, etc. Jinjer songs are HARD to play. It takes me days to figure out how to play one song. Not minutes like most other bands. I mean, show me any regular rock song for the first time, and I've learned it all by the time it's done playing. You cannot do that with Jinjer. You'd have to be a master virtuoso. Like a Jaco Pastorius or a Steve Vai or a Mike Portnoy. It's kinda like having all those guys in one band, and then having Ella Fitzgerald sing. Or Billie Holiday. There's too much brilliance going on to be able to comprehend it all at once. Truly special music!

I couldn’t agree more, and I think that’s what I enjoy most about each subsequent listen! I get to focus on what each player is doing individually, which on its own is ridiculous. Then you step back and see just how well it all works together! Magic!!

Working harmoniously together it's almost too good to be true. Every song is a masterpiece.
