★About Professor Herp★
I started getting into the reptile hobby in February of 2018. My first reptile was my Bearded Dragon - Maxine Pegasus (creator of duel monsters btw). Since then, I have added five Yellow Ackie Monitors (Asus, Dell, LG, and two unnamed babies), a Chacoan Black and White Tegu (Frappuccino), a Crested Gecko (Destin), and a Russian Tortoise (Tortellini). I also have a dog named Thrall (yes, from World of Warcraft) who is a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix - aka a Chiweenie.
My goal with this channel is to share my knowledge, experience and journey with other reptile/animal enthusiasts and become a better caretaker because of it. Hopefully I can learn a lot from the community through these videos.

Also depends on where you live as laws regarding size of enclosure will wary (here it's measured by cm and they belong to different size categories), aside from the price of the lizard itself

Verry detailed I just got a Argentine tegu and have him in my closet my whole closet lol but now I see that I will deff have to dish out about 600 just for a animal plastics cuz he is my baby he looks like he is going down for brumation at 6 months old only is that normal?verry detailed thanks bro bye!!!

Yeah you definitely want to move him into a proper enclosure. It is very hard to take care of a Tegu without one. My Tegu went down for brumation within the first couple months of owning him. Completely normal.

I'd prefer a tegu, but I hate that they can drop their tails. I'd actually prefer a black throated monitor, but I don't have the space. I also would rather have an animal that eats vertebrates. I hate having to keep insects that inevitably escape and end up all over your house.

  • @ProfessorHerp

Tegu's don't drop their tail that often but yes they can. I don't mind keeping inverts, never had an issue with an escapee. Dubias are super easy to keep also.

I think you misunderstood the point I was making. First, my personal goal would be to give my Ackies a bigger enclosure. Not saying everyone needs too. Also, while I am not saying everyone needs to give their Ackies a 8 foot enclosure, I think Ackies would utilize the space just as much as a Tegu. The size of the reptile is not everything. Lastly, a Tegu should have a bigger space than a 8'x4'x4' anyway as an adult.
