I tried to explain to some people I was chatting with in the UK (Hacienda 40th anniversary livestream) that I didn’t take drugs and I had a great time (I’m 58), and they said I should have because the drugs made the experience “next level”. I think I did pretty good without it!

@@bklyntraveler9705 Drugs can enhance the experience. But is more important to know how to feel the music, that itself is already like a drug, if you cant feel it, you can take any amount of drugs you want that the music is wasted on you, also feeling the music wont fry your brain, or make your teeth fall... ....altough its higly adictive! x'D

Incidentally, I'm 50. I was there when House was born. And I have always been faithful to him. It started in 1977 when I was seven years old. Frankie Knuckles, Larry Levan, Ron Hardy, Jesse Saunders, Chip E., Steve "Silk" Hurley, Farley "Jackmaster" Funk, Mr. Fingers, Marshall Jefferson, Phuture and so on. Many things in my life have changed. Even house music has changed. Now I can say house music has accompanied my life. And I still love it!

This is what I danced to when I first started clubbing. House music and acid and all of the new kinds were on the gay scene in Australia before anyone else heard of it. There were underground parties, parties at the Horden Pavilion every weekend that could fit 10,000 people. It was a revelation, and I feel privileged to have been a part of it.

Have never stopped listening to this music alongside all the new stuff comes along, my kids now in their 20’s grew up with it, and my son who dj’s always mixes in some old school. Started raving in 89, met my husband also a raver in 91. This music has stayed in my blood and on my record deck, cd player mp 3, phone whatever all through the years. I’m listening to this mix now in my living room in the UK, while sorting out a load of books, and i keep having to get up and dance round the room, can’t keep still. Thanks to whoever put it up, i’ve listened to it many times in last few years ❤️

I think that like myself all the people who are around 50 years old today have a strong nostalgia for this magical and unique time, not only the music and the long endless evenings, but the ambient freedom that reminds me that what is happening to us above today is absolute hell! Before it was almost paradise

Was not old enough to go clubbing, but used to dig those tracks at home at my cassette player, driving my parents mad. Where I am at, all electronic club/disco music was called "Acid" back in 1989. Then renamed in the forthcoming years as rap, dance, techno...despite being different genres. I would be digging the hip-house stuff more, looking back-but called is Acid too. Liked the smiley face figure, that was what got me into this, silly it may seem. We used to have this rivalry with the metalheads at school, where we would tease each other and even fight. We were also too naive to know about the drug connection and we'd be teasing our metalhead friends with: "well, acid melts metals so, we are superior"...that chemistry lesson gave us much delight, lol. Now...I listen to almost all genres at 42, acid, pop, hip-hop, techno, rock n roll, heavy metal, etc..... Peace!

Recall the first time hearing house music...late one night off the coast of Malaga, Spain while serving onboard a US Navy warship in 1988-we were on a Mediterranean rotation. I had a radio and happened to find a house music station bored on night watch duty. The following night we found a house club that played nothing but house. Man, if i could go back in time and bring those clubs into 2022 it would blow most away. But fondest memory was paying $10 for admittance to the famous discotheque BCM. They had laser shows, HUGE tv screens (music videos), neon lit bars that made the drinks just bang...HUGE club back then and was worth it. the 80s were the BEST!!!

Probably the best real acid mix evar. Only (tiny) critique... it should be one song longer. Start with Phuture's "Acid Trax" and, instead, move Maurice's "This is Acid" to the end. All are glorious, no harsh to anyone, but Phuture kind of lit it back in 87, and Maurice pretty much owned it in 88. Praise for them all, and legit addition of Aphex. Lastly, Gerald is a genius, VoodooRay is the right choice, but there are so many more too... And, if we go far enough into the then-future, would Hardfloor ever get any props? Luv 2 y'all and be well!

Man, this brings back memories of my childhood! I remember being 10 going on 11 and tuning into pirate stations BITD, listening to older relatives tapes or fellas round my estate blaring out riddims - hearing house, acid and hip-hop and immediately loving them! I started buying my first vinyls at 11.....only about one every 2 or 3 months with saved up pocket money!! I didn't go raving until '92, underage with fake ID. By then I'd progressed to the hardcore breakbeat sound, then on to Jungle and DnB, but I still love these old house /acid classics. Was wicked to hear them years later in the house rooms at hardcore / jungle raves and also at 'old school' nights.
