Achilles Rupture? DOCTOR Explains Marcus Smart Calf INJURY (NBA)

Спорт

Marcus Smart, NBA point guard for the Boston Celtics left Saturday's game against Los Angeles Lakers with a devastating left calf injury. Given the pop and mechanism of injury, many were worried about an Achilles tendon rupture. Gladly it was not!
The team reported he likely suffered a calf strain and this was confirmed by MRI today. Marcus Smart suffered a grade 1 calf strain on his left side.

In this video I will review the footage and discuss the mechanics of an achilles tendon rupture and calf strain. We will also go over risk factors for an Achilles tendon rupture. Then I will proceed to review return to play and treatment for both an achilles tendon rupture and Grade 1/2/3 calf strains. From the video footage, Marcus likely tore his medial gastroc. Medial gastroc tears are the most common calf strain seen in patients.
I am a resident doctor training to become a sports medicine specialist. Nice job Sonam! I've recently experienced a calf tear and felt the exact same pop in the same spot, your detailed explanation is one of the best out there! Thank you 🙂

so when a calf pops, it can still be only a grade 1 strain? always thought when a calf "pops," it's always at least a grade 2 and possibly grade 3 tear.

For a injury like this for a soccer player how long does it take to recover? And fully back to training?
