So with v sync on, if you drop below 144 it will take you down to 72 correct? I'd imagine 72 fps vs 60 fps would still have a small visual difference. But it almost forces you to lower settings over a 60hz laptop.

Depends on which country and what generation, like Dell inspiron 7xxx series, you'd find they have problem in forum like Tom's Hardware, etc. which is usually in US. But I couldn't find the same problem in my country. Here's my experience with laptop: I have a Acer travelmate from 2002 which are still running with intel Pentium and windows XP up until today. I changed the OS into Linux nowadays since DDR 1 is not good to catch with the year. I had a Acer that has i5 nehalem + amd radeon HD 5450 inside, running 2 years before I sold it, changed into Asus N43SL which is broken only in 3 months due to factory issue. They have 3 iterations of N43SL, the first 2 iterations had problem with intel chipset in the motherboard. I have Asus A46CB with i5 sandy bridge + 740M which is still running from 2011 until today. I have a HP Pavillion 14 with i5 Hashwell + GT840M which is still running from 2013 until today. I have a Acer VX15 with i7-7700HQ + 1050 which is still running from March 2017 until today. I have a Lenovo Y520 with i5-7300 + 1060 MaxQ which is still running from last month.

I think your the only KZreadr who has been able to properly show off the difference between a 60Hz screen and a 144Hz screen by slowing the footage down. Great job man! Details like these don’t go unnoticed!

please consider his last hint that you can swap the panels of almost all notebook models. It's not a huge market but you'll get a good panel eventually and can make a good notebook with a mediocre panel to a great notebook without flaws. :)

I have a y50/70 now with the i7 and 860m and it's been a great comp, and I think it looks way better than this Acer, but my next upgrade is this acer because of the power to price ratio, if I wanted looks in a gaming laptop I'd go msi or new Lenovo.

Robin Rai yea my left hinge attaching my screen to the comp the screws literally broke lol and I can no longer close the screen. But this was after about 2 years if hard use. Other than the screws breaking on the hinge I've have no further build quality issues. But I will need a new PC in the next 6months cause the cracks caused in the bottom left of screen when attempting to open the comp the first time after the screws broke (and not knowing it was broken until I tried to open it) are getting larger everytime I travel with it lol.

I bought this baby a couple months back. This is an alarmingly good laptop for all the specs you get at a cheap price. Theres laptops over 5000 that dont even have i7 or ssd.

Last year I got the 2017 version of this thanks to Dave and it's been amazing!

This thing gets ridiculously hot on the outside. Right out of the box it was 85-95 degrees C when playing r6 on high. I'm returning it for an MSI yea 144hz is nice but Ima go with 120hz MSI that won't burn your fingers off

I just got this and it is amazing ! Do expect the fans to sound like a jet engine during heavy usage though. Personally I think the cooling design on the VX 15 is better. Still a great laptop that does the job !

Jesus im so lost in all their model names. Which ones are the latest with 144hz and all that? I assume the PH315-51 (15 inch) / PH317-51 (17 inch) models? I believe the Helios G3-572 ones are the older. There are also PH317-51 models with the older 7th gen chips which makes me believe that those are older models aswell and that all the newest ones only have Coffee lake. Nobo But 700 dollars is still cheaper than this laptop, and in that price you can make a desktop that could even beat it. $7? Good luck then, if you could make Morrowind or NFS: Underground 2 to work at single-digit frames then you're lucky.

Awesome! I haven't started watching yet but I think I'll fall in love with this laptop! The helios 300 has always been a great budget gaming laptop and this upgrade is fantastic. Way too ahead in speed and everything compared to my current laptop (which plays Fortnite at 1-3 fps though my internet is very fast but my laptop is old and not for heavy gaming... I really like Fortnite but playing it at the moment is almost suicide 😭)

Zenjuu • the Lenovo legion Y730 and Dell G7 are great, and have a similar price. However their screens are not as good as this one. And it really does overheat, I know a friend who has it. Along with that, it can get pretty loud when it overheats.

Don't buy this laptop you'll regret it. Just look at 1:20 the thermal design is flawed by default, they didn't only connect the copper between gpu and cpu but are also keeping the vent small at only one side. The 8750 is a very hot one and it'll almost always keep your GPU throttled because the pipes are connected. UV won't save you either. This laptop had throttling issues with 7700hq and this cpu right here runs about 30% hotter, they didn't upgrade anything significant with the cooling either, this video is uninformed and misleading they've only made the fans metal, it's still just as loud. I'd recommend Dell 7577 or G (it's just renamed) as it has way better cooling with 2 vents on each side. Might wanna replace the screen though, it's pretty bad for an IPS panel, there are some pretty good high refresh rate panels but this will ofcourse void your warranty. Performance is on par with a full fledged 1060 once you OC+UV the max Q some (1650~ mhz is common if you find the sweetspot) also it has brilliant battery life. I've also heard good things about hp Omen but I haven't looked at any reviews. All in all Dell is the coolest throughout.

@@ottomanherox I have the 8750 one and never had heating issues after optimizing windows and undervolting, and I think my cooling pad also helps because it elevates the laptop a lil. However one of my friends bought the same one and still has heating issues after doing what I did so it's odd. I don't understand this laptop lol I guess you just have to get lucky and buy from a good batch. I agree Dell is probably better if you don't wanna take a risk but you have to sacrifice the beautiful 144hz screen the Helios 300 has

I bought this laptop a few weeks ago and I respectfully disagree with the things u mentioned about "thermals". This laptop runs quite hot, specially under cpu load. It's not like the cooling is bad, in fact, cooling system is quite impressive...the main bottleneck here is the 8th gen cpu. It throttles so easily... :/ I've run heaven benchmark with aida64 and it went to 90c in 3 seconds! And soon after that, cpu throttled and locked itself to 2.2ghz. Same happens if u play extremely demanding games like Hunt:showdown...for other less demanding ones, temps stay around 80c. Now, with my unit, I've undervolted cpu core, cache and even igpu and also fixed turbo limit to 3.4...now it is "usable"... so Dave, I really like ur videos and the way u present the laptops but please try to test thermals more sincerely as that is what I always find as a weakness in your videos...

Tamal Ahmed I think you should try to repaste the thermal compound. Dave tested this product for weeks and mostly in room with air conditioner.

Darul Khair I'll definitely do that but not now. Also, keep in mind that 90% of the buyers dont even know about repasting and it is also a very risky job. Either way, it doesn't make this product viable...I too have an AC room and adequate softwares for testing. I made that comment because when he says "new standard for cheap gaming laptop" or something like that, he should do it with more responsibility.

Tamal Ahmed well, asking technician to repaste would do it, despite extra bucks to pay. if that's the case maybe the quality control of this unit is suck. I believe repaste with better compound would solve your problem, I have same problem too in the past (not this unit tho) hopefully it works on you too

Darul Khair no I cant just go to a technician and repaste it... this kind of task is very costly in my country. Also, reliable technicians are rarely available...so if when I repaste it, I'll have to do it myself. Quality control wise, this is a unit that I'll consider 'ok' but not 'new standard...'. I was originally supposed to buy Dell G7(which is a way better option than this one) but sadly, it was 2x the price from where I bough my laptop.

Please make a review about the new version helios 300 (2019) with gtx 1660ti , and how to upgrade hdd which seems to be a lot difficult than the older version. And how about the new thermal design!!

Hey Dave, could you possibly make a video on the thing you mentioned about sticking 120hz screens on other laptops ? I got a xiaomi gaming laptop and a 120hz screen would be amazing on it. I know this is a do-it-yourself thing but given the high price of gaming laptops, and the much cheaper alternative of replacing the screen yourselves, I think it would really help a lot of people out who are unable to invest a lot of money in the near future. love your videos btw . peace !

Tbh i think you might have wanted to wait for the 2019 version it's thinner "black" and blue better fans and I think it has rtx and maybe a 9th gen cpu not sure though

How the crap is this so cheap??? I bought a laptop with a 60hz screen for $1700! Granted, it has a 1070, but still. This is crazy.

You could technically remove the panel on ur laptop and switch it with a 144hz screen but it’s VERY difficult
