Thanks for the video. Great info on those extra 3 tiny screws and the speaker cable. It was probably harder getting the bottom shell back on then off for me. I just put in a 750 evo. The Samsung migration software worked perfectly (had to reset a boot config which was basically just hitting [enter] during startup). I understand why one would want to do a fresh Windows 10 install though. I'm getting a caddy for the old hard drive tomorrow.

Thanks for the video. I installed succesfully a 500GB Samsung SSD. The speed boot speed now is incredible just 2 seconds. I used the Samsung Migration tool you can download and connected the Samsung SSD via USB 3 port using a SATA interface you can but on store or online. Remember the 3 screws he shows then but not showed in the picture of the screws with circles. When you first boot up the new disk you could get a boot failure message but just follow the instruction, reboot again and just choose the new disk. One last consideration: I'm not satisfied with the audio of this laptop. Very Low. After closing it I didn't closed very well on the front and the audio was much stronger and good. That's bad because the speaker are good but the case design suppress them. Maybe there's some trick we could do on them putting som little thicks to leave the sound getting out louder.

+PoddeM No seals are broken during this process. Same procedure, you will just be sliding out an optical drive instead of a spacer.

I'm assuming the e5 574G is set up the same way. Am I correct.

+Mannix Castro All you need is the SSD itself, unless you are planning on transferring the data from the old HDD to it. If you adding an extra 8gigs of ram, try to find the EXACT same DIMM that is provided already, as it would take advantage of dual channel. Finally, I would recommend the extra vram, if you or your son plan on gaming with it. The 4gb model was not available at the time of my purchase, as I bought it immediately after release. Some games use almost all 2gigs, although I have never maxed it out, I would recommend you go for the 4gb model if available.

can you just disconnect the battery wires so that way when playing for a long span of time, the battery life will not be exhausted quickly?

arenc muka The best thing to do is back up all your personal stuff on some flash drives or portable hard drive and reinstall Windows, let it update, and then put all your files back on

Couple of questions if you can help, I was planning on putting an ssd and still keep my hdd that it came with. Is the sata connection sata 3( im pretty sure cause you have an evo 850 in there) but what about the optical drive. What kind of connection is that? Is it sata 2? Can i get a caddy and install my hdd into the optical drive bay? Will it still be compatible with my hdd and will i get relatively the same speed? Anything will help

You can definitely get a caddy for the HDD and install the SSD in the standard bay. The only issue is I am unsure of what speed you will be getting out of the cut down SATA interface for the ODD. At the same time, I doubt it will be much, of a performance loss, if any, as it is a slow mechanical drive. So you should be all set, go for it.

The 940m should be beefy enough to run the game at 900p at medium settings, based on the fact that the game runs UE4. Other games that run this engine, like The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, run at those settings and tend to maintain ~50fps.

I can't for the life of me get the backside back on. The corner with the headphone jack and SD-card makes it so difficult. Edit: eventually I got the headphone jack into place by carefully lifting the motherboard with a thin screwdriver.

If anyone here knows anything about this, please answer it ASAP for me: I want to use the DVD tray of this laptop for the 1 TB HDD that comes out after I'm done replacing the laptop with an SSD. +GormyGorm A vegetable can run Count Strike, GTA V is playable (40-60fps) at 900p, anything using the source engine is easy to run at high frame rates. Battlefield performs excellent (60-70fps) medium-high settings, 1080p. BO3 runs alright, (50-60fps) at 900p and medium settings.

+TekSyndicus lol, they do, even my previous laptop with core i3 SandyBridge supported virtualization. Well I have got the answer, earlier there were option to enable or disable virtualization "VT-x" in the Advanced tab of the BIOS. But in these newer laptops, they are already enabled from the manufacturer side. I have just tested VirtualBox with Windows XP, and it didn't gave me any lag or error that Virtualization is not enabled in the BIOS. But I'm yet to test few more softwares so that i can confirm that "Vt-x" comes pre enabled in this laptop.

+rsd Props to the manufactures then. I just perused the ARK and turns out, most intel cpus do support it on the desktop side. I always thought visualization was absent between ivybridge and haswell-e. I assumed it was the same story on the mobile processors. Perhaps it was down to missing instructions for better optimization for visualization?

Unfortunately, there is no slot to put an m.2 type SSD. I have heard of people getting HDD caddys that can fit where the optical drive goes though, and you can put in an additional drive there.

Yes, you should be able to follow along with this tutorial as long as the internals of your laptop match up with the ones in the video. Also, you do not need to purchase Windows when reinstalling it; the product key is paired with the laptop's motherboard.

Plus this model has an empty DVD tray so you can get a 9.5" caddy to put the 1TB hdd. He can use it that way for mass storage. At least I would.

ravi kanth Yes, you can put an SSD where the stock HDD is and put that HDD in the optical drive bay with a caddy you can buy online. Look on Amazon for "HDD caddy" put the HDD in that, slide it in place of the plastic piece that current acts as a place holder in the bay, and use the front of the place holder on the caddy so it matches the body of the laptop screw it all down and you should be golden.

Great video. Many thanks! I followed the video, but now I can't get the laptop to recognize the SSD. when I boot up, it says there is no Bootable drive. I tried keeping the ssd in the primary slot and put the HDD in the optical slot, but then the laptop only recognized the HDD. Any help would be huge!

+TekSyndicus I'm using the USB drive method. When I tried using only the SSD in the primary slot and then booting from the USB, it didn't recognize any HD. When I had both hard drives installed and booted from the USB, it saw the SSD, but wouldn't let me install windows. It said that the SSD was only a recovery drive. And when the laptop is fully booted up, the computer only sees the HDD.

Dabrits Entertainment Plug the SSD into another computer and use CMD to "clean" it. I will link how to do that here: knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/005929en?language=en_US This will erase EVERYTHING from the SSD, just keep that in mind. But this should work. I use this utility all the time when a system doesn't recognize a drive as it may be formatted improperly. If it still doesn't recognize it, open Disk Management (search for it if you need to) and format the SSD as NTFS, click next, next, so on and so forth. Try installing Windows on it once again. If that fails, there is something wrong (probably) on the hardware side of things on the SSD. (This is very unlikely.)

An SSD basically just makes it so that your games and other stuff load a hell of a lot faster, like CSGO Dust2 in a couple of seconds fast.

As far as a good choice for gaming, it is a great value, but there are hoops to jump through in order to give you a good experience with this machine. It isn't a bad machine, but if you are not particularly tech savvy, I would recommend something like the Dell Inspiron i7559

Evan Kozak Exactly, it doesn't affect frame rate, just makes loading times longer. When I say hoops, I mean overclocking the GPU, changing advanced settings, configuring BIOS, etc. There is no single tutorial to do this and it is best that you are tech savvy to get the best experience as I said before.

You won't get the best performance, you will be stuck with bloatware, it would just be frustrating to use for gaming. It will always be a great office PC, but it makes one of best budget gaming laptops out their if and only if you know what you are doing.
