Acer Aspire 5 Power Jack Repair (Loose charge port)

Ғылым және технология

This Acer Aspire 5 laptop had a loose connection where you plug in the power cord. It would go back and forth from battery to ac power when you wiggled the tip of the power cord. In th video I disassemble the laptop, de-solder the broken jack off and solder a new one one.
We perform this service for $69 parts and labor at www.pcrepairhelp.net.
This video can also be used to access the hard drive, fan, wireless card and other components inside the notebook.

Thanks! This was very helpful. But I wasn't able to get the port removed with a wick and flux - I had to use a rework station which got the component off in a few seconds. But I wouldn't have known how to take this laptop apart without your instructions which are excellent. Thanks again.

Only if I knew acer cheaped out on such a crutial part. Even a slight movement of the machine when plugged in might disconnect or connect the charging. Its very annoying. The heating is not as good as well but managable. As I personally cannot do this, I am gonna have to trust a stranger with my laptop and since its a mother board issue. I hope he dosent mess up something. Great explanation anyway. You are very professional and detail oriented.

Thank you! Easy'ish fix to a problem I've been jerry rigging around for like 2 years now. Couldn't quite get the desoldering right, but that's on me. Ended up covering other important stuff and blow torching the power jack from a distance, seemed to do the trick.

I think you're solving a itching minor problem by doing major brain surgery. How about a little Velcro and tape to keep the power cable stuck to the chassis while allowing it to be detached over and over as the computer user is moving around and re-connecting? Seriously, I think you have brought us a Cadillac's interior design solution to a old Jeep's quirky fuel tank connecting problem. Next time: save yourself the time and energy (and power used and risks of collateral problem-creation) by buying some Velcro and duct tape and alerting the manufacturer that they need a more secure cable/chassis connection on their next marketed models. I'm not recommending this procedure for anyone who is NOT ALREADY a computer hardware service expert.

ETA: Oh! That jack seems to be slid into -and over- the PCB and need room to slide back off after unsoldering at least one side...thus need some of the case removal.
