Thanks for the video. I am interested in purchasing one of these and your videos are very imformative😊 I like the secondary bevel because if someone is handling the sword they can see clearly where not to touch

Where I live in the county of Wiltshire in the south west of England we have a very deep historical connection with not only the Middle-Ages but also the Dark Age and Celtic/Iron Age (it's the home of Stonehenge and Avebury Stone Circle after all). There are swords and spears and shields on the walls of every historical building. If you went back in time to medieval England with this sword you would probably be killed for it. There obviously would of been nothing like it. Generally the steel used in Medieval Britain was of vastly inferior low carbon steel, some are almost entirely made of iron and were almost disposable, single use weapons. The finest steel was imported from India, called Wootz steel, a crucible steel characterized by a pattern of bands and high carbon content. Indian metallurgy was renowned from the time of the Roman Empire, and blades made in the Persian Empire and across the east were usually made from imported Wootz. European Crusaders encountered Wootz steel in the superior weapons of their eastern enemies. The best Europe had to offer was Toledo steel from Spain. Crucible steel like Wootz wasn't developed in Europe until the 18th century. It's also worth remembering that, despite the movies, swords in Europe were primarily long reach stabbing weapons. The middle and far eastern swords were curved for chopping. As much as I love the movie scenes of swordsmen clashing and parrying their swords against each-other in this dramatic Jedi like duel, it's a far cry from real Medieval hand-to-hand combat. I've ordered mine now and it will go nicely with the rest of my collection.

Swords were also not the weapon of choice on the battlefield. That was probably the pike or pole axe although I think I would have preferred a spear and shield with a hand axe backup. I could use it for chopping firewood later.

@@timesgonetech3057 Absolutely. A sword wouldn’t of been very effective even against the simple leather Cuirass armour of the Dark Age/early Middle Age. Most skeletons discovered in archaeological digs from battle sites in southern England had the triangular shaped hole of a War Hammer in the back of the skull. Or Poll Axe damage to the crown.

@@wiltshiresail7186 A spiked hammer would be my next choice. Those things are lethal. Actually, I keep a welder's hammer on the passenger floorboard of my truck. Has a nice flat side and a flattened spike on the other for chipping off welding slag. Wouldn't do a car jacker's head much good either, and it's just a common hammer one can buy in any hardware store and where I live (Alabama) it isn't a weapon unless modified. Off the shelf, it's just a hand tool. :-)

If you like your Ibelin, you will love this one. The blade is MUCH better quality. Night and day difference. The Ibelin is too thin and floppy. They made this one thicker with a beautiful taper. Do it!!

@@TheMan-je5xq hey! I have a number of windlass swords, and I will be the first to admit to you they are a bit notorious for having blades that start a bit too thin at the guard and have zero distal taper, resulting in a blade that is "functional" in theory, but in actuality is quite floppy and handles poorly. This is not one of them! It is quite stiff with decent distal taper. While overall the sword is a bit heavier than ideal, I love how it feels, am glad to have it part of my collection, and feel I could rely on it if I actually used it in battle.

Now, as amazing as this sword is, what I DON'T care for is the companion dagger. I got it to match my sword and it is also beautiful but balanced horribly. It has a nice shirt blade for a dagger, which I love, but they paired it with a way too beefy hilt. So now that I own it, I am debating whether to keep it just have the matching set for costume purposes and hanging on my wall.....or to sell it because it is so incredibly poorly balanced. Have you checked it out?

I do have the dagger and I like it. I actually bought the dagger first and it inspired me to buy the sword. Mine is balanced right behind the hilt and feels very comfortable in my hand. But since we can't go on a crusade these days they're both for costume purposes only anyway.
