Acapulco de Juárez (2024) is a coastal city in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. It is a worldknown city and has an important port at the Pacific Ocean. Acapulco is also a beach resort town with luxury 5 star hotels for millionaires. Unfortunately due to gang violence, drug cartels and increasing homicide numbers the city is unsafe. It is the 7th deadliest city in the world. Still Acapulco attracts many foreign tourists for its outstanding beaches. There are 3 parts in Acapulco Bay. The South is known as Diamante. The north from Caletilla and Caleta to Zócalo and Parque Papagayo. Finally the center part which is called Zona Dorada (Golden Zone). The metropolitan area of Acapulco has a population of 1 million. Highlights of the city are La Quebrada, Island of La Roqueta, Acapulco Diamante, bay of Puerto Marqués, Our Lady of Solitude Cathedral, Chapel of Peace, Fort of San Diego and the mural of Quetzalcoatl by Diego Rivera.

Desde lejos todo se ve bello... el problema es cuando te acercas. Homicidios, narcomenudeo, extorsión y cobro de piso a empresas grandes, medianas y pequeños negocios.

Acapulco is very beautiful. I go two or three times every year. It is a lie that it is the 7th city with the most homicides in the world, it seems like a smear campaign, the images say it all, that development can only be achieved in an environment of peace.

a bit similar but Acapulco is a much bigger city with mountains closely surrounding all sides of a much smaller bay.

Acapulco has a subtropical climate and golden sand beaches, the opposite of Puerto Vallarta. Unfortunately, the dollars changed direction towards other destinations such as Cancun, Los Cabos or Puerto Vallarta.

That was 4 years ago. Acapulco's numbers have dropped by 50% since then. Acapulco's per capita murder rate in the past year was 57, Cancun was 48. For perspective Tijuana's number was 107

Sadly that's still horrible. Usually cities around the world have an average of 4 to 6 deaths per 100 thousand people. Acapulco with 57 means it's at least 10 times worse than any average city in the world.

Acapulco is my home for more than 20 years and I have yet to see the violence you mentioned beyond the norm of any large city. Gracias y adios
