Acadia National Park | Maine

Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the east coast of the United States. This place has it all: woods, mountains, lakes and the ocean. Acadia also takes the prize as one of the most dog-friendly parks in the country. Acadia National Park is roughly 50 miles southeast of Bangor and covers most of Mount Desert Island - the largest island off the coast of Maine. It became a park in 1916 and was the first one established east of the Mississippi. Each year, two and half million visitors come to check out the rocky cliffs, winding roads, and 120 miles trails.
We started hiking at Sand Beach which is one of the most popular spots in the park. This oceanside hike winds its way through evergreen forest and it’s a little bit of a climb to get to the top of the cliffs. We then head to the coast of Maine to explore Frenchman Bay on sea kayaks. Frenchman Bay is a deep water inlet that lies between the mainland and Mount Desert Island.
We check out Bar Island. Bar Island got its name from the sand bar that appears during low tide. You can walk across it to explore the island, but you gotta be quick because low tide only lasts about an hour and a half. We then head to one of the tallest peaks in the park - Champlain Mountain - hiking the Precipice Trail.

I’m glad as a Maine resident that Acadia is getting some respect, being one of the most popular national parks in the world, it’s sad not seeing many documentaries on it

My first visit to Acadia NP was in early fall of 2014. Such an amazing park! It was a little early for the fall colors, but they were starting to pop at the time. Precipice Trail was an awesome climb. Bar Island was a cool hike. I was there with friends and we hiked Sand Beach/Great Head trail, Thunder Hole, Acadia Mt, and a whole bunch more. I did a long bike ride circumnavigating Mt Desert Island and climbing Cadillac Mt. And watched the Cadillac Mtn sunrise. It was a great trip with great friends.

Moose and bear are present on the Schoodic Peninsula, but are only infrequent visitors to Mount Desert Island. Other, more elusive species like bobcats and fishers live in the park, but are rarely seen
