thing is, apperently Kumu mark purposely makes sure he gets deductions which is why he didn't win. according to him, he doesn't care much about the trophy, but the applause from the people. as far as I have heard, he broke three rules

Not that he purposely makes sure he gets points deducted. He has made it clear that his haumana are his trophies. Trophies have never meant ANYTHING TO US haumana. Just perpetuating. He was instructed by HIS KUMU to do your own and do your best. Which is what he's taught us. Kulia I ka nu'u. No trophies can ever replace what he means to us... Malama pono....❤

I'm obsessed and in awe! They made this dance look so complicated. I remember Hula Halau O Kamuela dancing with these same instruments in 2012, and I thought it was well done and intricate. But these ladies took it to the next level. Moving the feet forward and back on the foot pedal while tapping the kala'au sticks, plus chatting and performing hand movements, is so difficult. Well done ladies! Well done!

They should have placed. Sad to see that they did not get the recognition they deserved. This by far was a complicated performance that was executed to the T. This shows true love for Hula. They came in and shook things up despite what other folks think.

Every year Kumu Mark brings his haumana and just totally illustrates amazing hula. His halau is one i anticipate every year.

None can compare. Simply awesome

This Halau is the main reason why I started watching the Merry Monarch Festival and learning about the art of Hawaiian hula. As being Samoan & German, this is what connects us as Polynesian's. This performance was breathtaking and amazing!

I watch this kahiko so many times!! I loved the song, the rhythm, the kala'au sticks,, the foot instrument was so awesome!!! THE KUMU WAS AWSOME TOO!!! I was hoping that California will at least place for kahiko for kane and wahine!! No matter what the choices the judge did you have my vote and never give up!! You guys were so "AWSOME"!!!!

they are the only halau that people were cheering throughout the whole performance, not just the intro and outro.

He is on a whole new level and category.
