Just received my Sony Connect and it works perfectly with my a7iii and my Canon A1 even when using the pro media flash bracket!

Slightly off topic. How are you doing the multicam switching and chat monitoring for these live broadcasts?

I'm thinking of switching to Profoto for my lighting. What do you have for customer support here in the US. Do you have phone support?

Beware. I recently sent my Air Remote in to Profoto because it just stopped working in manual. They said it was not repairable. At Profoto prices, their remotes should not just stop working internally and if they do, they should be repairable. They offered to sell me a new unit. No thanks. Profoto quality might be overrated. At their price point, the warranty on their triggers should be longer. You might have to repurchase these things every couple years.

I’ve already ordered a pair of these to supplement my Air TTL and Air remotes. But I saw something on a vendor site that said the Connect has 8 channels but ONE group. They went on to say a second group will be added with a firmware update. But I think I just heard here that the Connect has six groups. Which is the correct information?

  • @hannola

It's correct, initially it controls one group but that will change in an upcoming firmware upgrade.

Is profoto going for small triggers+app to control the power of each light?

Profoto is developing products for all different types of photographers so you will have a range from high-end studio equipment and also products for photographers that are just starting with lights. Some you can control with an app and others not. It all depends on where it makes sense.

The Sony version is in the pipeline but I do not have a fixed date yet. You can always use it off camera together with a Profoto Connect or Air Remote TTL-S.

Some photographers want an easy solution with one flash and a remote with no buttons. Profoto will continue producing Air Remotes so photographers can choose freely between the different remotes.

@@hannola I also do not understand why oh why the air remote only shows the incremental power changes on the remote for this amount of money I want it to actually tell me on the remote when I change from say power level 4 to 6 I want it to say 6 in the remote! How hard can that be? Other lighting systems do it and at a cheaper price? The answer U always get from pro foto is it only sends info and doesn't receive! And my reply is always the same "for that amount of money it should receive info as well! Don't get me wrong I think the quality of the lights are amazing, I do use the pro foto umbrellas as the build quality is great, but I won't buy into the lights until such a time comes when they realise that allot of people won't buy the lights because of this small tweak which they seem reluctant to make??

@@nigeljameshughes3722 It sounds like Profoto is not the right system for you. If I don't like a specific brand of pizza, car, camera etc, I don't waste my time on their web, Facebook or KZread and tell them how much I don't like their specific pizza or camera. I just buy what works for me and make a living as a photographer.

@@hannola thanks for your reply! You assume wrong that I have not used the A1, a friend of mine bought into the system but even he had said he does not understand why the pro foto air remote does not receive info as well as sending it. He has also made the comment that I made about the phone app, no1 you need to use it with an I phone? As it won't work with android No2 I don't want to have to mess about with a mobile to alter settings it's something else you have to carry and try and use while holding a camera in one hand? This is why I made the comment about 2 way communication on the air remote! Pizza is pizza? You can't try to re invent pizza? My comment about theA1 was purely an observation on when it first came out, and the fact that pro foto stated that it was the world's smallest studio light ? It's a flash gun like every other flash gun? It does nothing that any other flash gun does? Apart from the fact it's £900 or there abouts.
