ACA P-50 Alert and Attack Test Grand Ridge, IL 2/4/14

Ойын-сауық

Note: The Eclipse is NOT replacing the P-50. The 2 sirens are used for different purposes, so please stop asking about it. The P-50 has since been replaced by a T-135 AC/DC.
This ACA P-50 located the intersection of E Main St. and Railroad Ave. surprised me in 3 ways. First, it wound up very fast. Second, it rotated clockwise instead of counter clockwise like most P-50s. Third, and the biggest of them all, not only did it do the typical alert, but also did 3 cycles of attack as well. As I say in the video, I have never seen an Exelon siren in this area do attack. My feeling is that the fire department set it off as they use to use this as their fire call siren, before they got the Eclipse. Why they set it off I have no idea, but it was awesome regardless and caught me by complete surprise. This is La Salle Exelon siren #20. This is the final of 6 videos from the February 4, 2014, siren test.

UGH. IMO the new t-135 sucks and is incredibly boring. It is nowhere near as powerful as the p-50 too. Plus, they already have a battery backup siren right next to this! Why do they need another one?

Federal Thunderbolt Yeah. It was the worlds loudest siren in production at the time it was still made. I remember going to ACA's website and seeing this on there product list. This used a massive 50 horse power motor and it produced 135DB at 100 feet. From a mile this produced about 70DB. this beast still was loud even from a mile away. This siren was good for small towns because you only need about 1 or 2 of these depending on the size of the town to get good coverage. But because of the 50 horse motor and the massive amount of power and current needed to power this siren, there was absolutely no way of battery backup ever working. This siren had to always have power going to the panel for it to run, so therefore if the power ever went out, the whole system would not work. During the P-50/T-135 production, it went through many model changes. The first being as you said the P-50. This was the siren that was bought by the Civil Defense and was used as a Civil Defense air raid siren back in the 60's, witch is why you see many T-135's painted Civil Defense Yellow. Then later on, the P-50 went through a model change in the 80's to the T-135. It was no longer a Civil Defense siren so the standard color was grey like the one in the video. This model was the worlds loudest in production, as well as the P-50, having a massive 135DB. The T-135 was produced until the late 200's, up until I think 2004 or 2005. During the production time of the P-50, what is now known as ASC, was known as ACA. Alerting Communications Of America. ACA produced the P-50 and T-135 sirens until the late 200's during the time of the T-135. Then ACA's president sold the company to a new guy who then bought it and named it ASC, American Signals Corporation. ASC still makes the T-135. The new T-135 uses the same housing as the T-128. It even uses the same low toned chopper as the T-128 has. But the difference is the T-135 is still the loudest siren currently in production, with a stunning 133DB at 100 feet. And with the reduction in the motor's horse power, the T-135 now has battery back up. So there's some info on this awesome siren for you. Don't know if you knew this, but just throwing it out there for anyone else who didn't know :-) Thank you. And LONG LIVE THE T-135!! :-D

Federal Thunderbolt No. I just research :-) They started with the RE-1600 siren then they also had the 6,000R. Both were good sirens. Not so sure about the gasoline powered sirens, but the B&M Mobil Directo siren used a gas powered ACA Alertor siren. That is a very rare siren to find nowadays, but their are still some left.
