I went to a so called engineers house for an a/c call, he knew what was wrong with a/c (not) , knew more than me, checked parts prices online, he made me wait and wanted same online prices, after that I asked for customers profession before heading over.

So after all that i would have just said, “great you seem to know what you’re doing good luck carrying out the repairs on your own..have a great day!”

Been doing this for 30 years. Never once have I ever run across the HVAC cops. Get the job done and move on to the next.

If thats what customer wants thats what the customer gets.

❤❤😂😂 we all do it!! If we all took the time to do it by the numbers we all would get so far behind there would be no daylight at the end of the tunnel!!!! If was a 2~3 year old unit? Would be different but a 10 year old unit? An I am sorry but it seems like more mini splits have micro leaks than the old standard units 🤷🏻‍♂️… I would be safe in saying 75% of customers prefer gas an go over search an detect an repair option. Just keeping it real here…

100% i did that and will continue if that’s the route customer wants to go.

Funny that the HVAC police will say different Mikey but you’re 100% correct. All things aren’t perfect and why spend ALL that time and have the customer spend ALL that extra money for something that can be rectified in 15 minutes 😂.

I found it a little strange that the mini split was for the basement? My lower level is the coldest part of my house in the summer? He said something about it working 6 months ago-heat pump?? As long as you are not rude about it and tell him all the facts I would prefer to have a running system for a bit until I decide what I want to do for a longer term fix. If he was an engineer why didn’t he know that the line was frozen? Go have GG and Tonic! Tell me what is going to happen with #Letsgobrandon? What a sad thing that this is even a candidate-he should be enjoying retirement

I rate Toshiba, i put alot of their mini splits and ducted high static split units great little trucks, lineset leaks are about the inly thing we seem to call out to fix

I would have removed the gas and weighed it out. Done a strength test for leaks then vacuum the set up. 🤠

I would do same thing but I aways check the flare connections at condenser and the head which takes 5 mins

Just did a gas and go on a 1986 train split heat pump. Customer wanted to see how it goes and wants to replace the unit in the fall when things die down.

It may die down sooner..... but maybe it will hold up until they are ready to have replaced. Roll the dice.

I noticed Skips detailing right before video ended. There still in business I guess. They been there a long time. I'm gonna guess you don't give him any business with what he charges. Your $50 guy you mentioned is all you need. I use to work at Woodmere car care on West Broadway in the early 90s. I'm sure Smitys is still there.

Look at all of that nasty, black refrigerant oil on the pad at the service valves. You failed to check the valve cores or check the valve caps for leaks. Gas-'N-Go, much? Guess that pays the bills?

I expect he did his due diligence, including checking all the accessible stuff for joint leaks, but it does not edit in well for time or keeping the video tight.

Hey mike, question... Aren't you suppose to open the valve for a few seconds then close to charge in liquid, and keep repeating , I noticed you just opened it and let one pound of liquid 410 in... it won't damage the compressor adding all that liquid at once? Love your videos, I'm always learning from you, thank you

the rule of window units and mini splits, servicing shouldn't cost more than 50% replacement cost to the customer. So if the customer wants it cooling to buy them time to get it replaced, gas n go.

I wonder how many try the DIY AutoZone refrigerant kit, before calling for help..... and never mention having done it...

I own a nursery engineer and professor are the worst customers they think they know your business. Nightmare on any street

BUT, you've always said what good does s band-aid do without knowing the problem and how to fix it.(paraphrase). Only thing you did was to give them temporary relief and almost guarantee a service call back.

But you could be overcharged,you just don’t know for sure.

Had a charge put in my 3 ton rheem and it lasted 2 weeks….21 year old unit is toast. New unit going in next week. Installer is putting a York in….hope it isn’t a pile. We shall see

Don’t install a York. You’ll regret it in a few years. If you’re going to install a a York make sure your installing contractor flushes the lineset and brazes with nitrogen flowing. Those micro channel coils can clog easily

Prices. Last year for new 410A. Replaced by R454B or R-32, both of which are more expensive. I suspect R-32 will also get banned in the US since its already banned in the EU. Gas N go is going to get a whole lot more expensive!
