Thank you all so much for the fantastic response. It's been a real labour of love making this, which you'll see in the behind the scenes. That's gonna be a bit late, but out in the next couple of weeks, so please subscribe and hit the notification bell as it's a very substantial video going deep into every aspect of the production. Also if you would like to see us do more films like this, and bigger and better things, do please consider sharing the video with anyone who may like it or across the web. Every little helps and we'd love to do more!

First one to name the four VFX shots gets...some kind of shout out? Edit: Kiwi Films nailed it! The blood on the lens, the slice on the back of the neck, the knife in Law's stomach (CGI blood) and masking out the cuts on the shirt at the end as this was done practically. I'll do a full breakdown in the upcoming behind-the-scenes. I wanted to rise this so people understand that though I talk often about preferring practical blood at all times, sometimes you need CGI. We actually depended on it, and it helped the film. It meant less time to set up and frankly less expenses on costume. It helped that we had a world-class VFX supervisor in Tim Keene of the Third Floor, which not everyone will have access to at this level, but I think it shows just how well-planned VFX in action can be relatively invisible and very helpful.

@@bRETTfAVREatgbnyjmni 1/4 definitely, 2/4 kinda! The blood on the camera is the most obvious, the chest slices are practical but we actually masked the cuts so it appeared they were made by the knife at the right time. I ask because I do want people to know that a fight scene like this doesn't have to be anti-CGI to be good. There's two more, and one is admittedly very not-obvious!

This was amazing, I mean talk about a lover of his craft and this genre making an absolutely slam-bang, awesome, brutal action short. There's so many things I can talk about that this short nailed: from the pacing and rhythm of the fights (brilliant choreography by Ly and his team, this is some of their best work yet and I've been following these guys for years now, so seeing this makes me very happy), to the amazing performances and the brilliantly told narrative, complete with hard-edged, minimalist dialogue and storytelling. JP's performance completely sells the desperation of a man just trying to make it through this nightmare whereas Law FUCKING nails the menace and viciousness of his character, this is all backed up by an amazing location that feels dreary, hopeless but still well-lit and atmospheric enough thanks to the amazing cinematography by Jon Muschamp, who lights this set like no other and then injects just the right amount of energy and freneticism into the camerawork to add that extra punch to the fights. Chris Mears' Score was also brilliant, it's not like too in your face so that it overshadows the action but it's not too muted so that there's no bite to it, it's just right and very appropriate for the tone of the film, and of course the editing, I mean we all know that you're the maestro of smooth transitions in your video essays Ross but we saw a very different, very cool side of you here with the film format style editing that nevertheless captures your great sense of pacing and intrigue throughout, I've seen so many shorts of this vein that are shorter than this and yet due to bad editing feel so much longer and/or boring, this ensnares you from the start and never lets go. This is just a fucking awesome output bro, thank you and your cast/crew for all the effort, it really paid off, I'd almost want to see you drop video essays and move full-time into filmmaking but my heart would miss you talking about movies you love and feeling like you're one of us, but who says one can't do both ? xD especially since you got so much talent in both ! KUDOS !

Very cool short film! I really like the way the first "act" of the fight is choreographed: At first the protagonist doesn't want to get hurt and the fight is more about evading the blade. After both taking hits they start to pull of more reckless moves that end in them getting hurt. The fight is constantly raising the severity from evading the knive to slicing and then stabbing with it. Really nice short film 💪

Ross doesn't compromise and start right from the knife fight, hah. Good job Ross, good job production team! Cool to hear Chris' music, I still love Emily's Theme. And special thanks for french speaking actors - breath of fresh air on lingua field, heh.

Amazingly done! It was as well directed as I'd hoped it might be, if not even better! Just goes to show how great choreography and clear shots can really help elevate a fightscene from just fun to downright exciting. Hope we get to see more of this kind of stuff, it was an absolute delight to watch!

Amazing work! I’ve been following this channel for quite some time now and i’m glad to see all that action movie wisdom of yours finally being put to practical use! Can’t wait to see what you do next and fingers crossed you’ll be making feature length cinema in a near future

I love that they didn’t constantly switch camera angles in a fight scene, those give me headaches.

Perfectly Paced. Perfectly Brutal. Loved all the little reversals and fun movements you sprinkled throughout, like the main character throwing his own hand blood, and just an excellent final shot. HUGE congratulations

@Ross atron.. Have been waiting for this since you released the teaser.I am a big fan of the content published in this channel, which helped me to a great extent in my first outing as a action short director too.:) Thanking you for that. About Acere Loved the intensity , loved the use of blood to blind the villain a lot. Like a lot of them have commented already Gareth Evans would be proud. :). Wishing you all the best for all the new projects. Wish to see a sequel to this and also more action shorts and feature from you. When you do put out the Behind the scenes please share the shot break downs if possible or an outline of what went into the planning of the fight sequence... Thank you .. Wishing you once again the very best .

This packs the sort of weight that makes you properly keen on the events and rooting for the protagonist as they are not some immortal godlike being so you could just go and check where you left you bag of m&ms without loosing much of what is happing.
