Abuse: What Does God Say? To the Church // Mike Novotny // Time of Grace

Statistically, whether we know it or not, all of us know and love someone who has been abused. And all of us know and love someone who has been abusive. So how can we be a blessing to both? How can we comfort, confront, and bring healing to our circle of influence?

Most abusers are wolves in sheep's clothing. Make sure you know who you are dealing with. They tend to be pathological liars

Dear Pastor Mike, Thank you for this 3 part sermon series on Abuse. It was bittersweet to watch because I endured 17 years of abuse (bitter) but I am finally free (8 months) and the sweet bit is that it makes my heart smile that GOD equipped you with the courage to speak about a topic that has such a stigma of shame to it that is the unspoken word. I pray that every church steps out in faith and follows your example... GOD is good and may the truth continue to be revealed in Jesus' Name - Amen.

I thank God I found you, a pastor who finally exposes abuse as a terrible problem that God is not ok with it. Something so delicate and complicated to talk about it but, so very important and necessary. Abuse has been, and continuous to be a hidden horrible atrocious and dangerous problem happening in our society, including in our Christian community. I have been a victim of an abusive husband for many many years. At first I thought it was just a bad temper, then I though, I should have done things in a better way so he wouldn't gotten irritated. But something inside my head always told me.. "it is not right and not normal the horrific things he calls me and says to me". When I approached my church counselor; she said I might be doing something wrong to irritate him, she also said, I need it to be more submissive and loving and please him any time he wanted, and as much as he wanted, because that is what a Christian woman should do. After this I felt that I had nobody to help me, because even God was expecting me to be better with my husband and be more submissive so he will stop the bad treatment, but that was not even the case. I am so thankful to the Lord for ministries like yours. I am so thankful to know that God is not ok with any type of abuse. And I thank you for doing this pastor Mike Novotny God bless you, for bringing hope through Jesus to those that need it desperately.

Most abusers have a personality disorder and will not admit their wrong.

Something radical needs to happen. Church leaders really MUST give proper support to any member who is being abused, regardless of gender, whoever the abuser is. Husbands, wives and children who are being abused by spouses - the leaders are often woefully inadequate in their response, and often urge them to stay in such situations. This must change - unless they want some of them to end up in A&E - or worse. Also, what if the abuser is your pastor or one of the elders? Many church leaders just won't deal with this as they should. The only option for the abused person/s often to leave the church. Some have talked to the police because the pastors etc just wouldn't help as they should. I wonder how many bloodied sheep are wandering around, so damaged, and getting no help from those pastors who really should help, properly? Your videos are so good, but could you please be more proactive, and raise more awareness about this with other church leaders? As male pastors you will be taken more seriously.

I respect your community. I do. But religion is not about forcing yourself on people which is exactly what you do when you are advertising on KZread and we don’t get the option to skip the ad. Please stop it.

This message needs to be in EVERY church library! Both my husband and I are from broken, and abusive homes. However, I found healing from my emotional, mental and psychological abuse years ago. I knew he was abusing me, but he would repent, then months later it would slowly start up again.

I was abused at a very young age and I grew up and was abused many times and I blocked it out because I thought all of it was my fault 💔😭 All I wanted was to find someone who would love me as much as I love them ❤️🙏🏻and I found that but as we have aged and I have several terminal illnesses and he doesn’t know how to deal with it so he stays busy . And he does take care of anything he can get but I just want him to hold me and he has a hard time doing that because he has shoulder problems . And he is 71 and I am 62 and my faith in Jesus is what gets me through every day knowing and trying to keep my faith strong and telling satan to stay away from me and my family that we belong to God and he can never have us no matter how much pain and suffering he causes me🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️ I will always belong to God he cannot snatch me out of his hand🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️💖💖😭😭😭😭But the pain is getting worse I’m getting weaker I’m having more problems internally and mentally I need prayers🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
