Abstraction Artist: Anne Marchand Documentary

Abstract painting can thrust us into the unknown, immersing us in the midst of liminal visual and emotional experiences, without fixed name or context. This kind of art is full of risk and unexpected reward, asking the viewer to take a fraught journey right along with the artist.
Anne Marchand’s paintings transport us into virtual worlds that form themselves before our eyes. She presents visions of a reality that is alive with shifting space, moving color, and animated lines. These phenomena are embodied in the material reality of paint, along with a range of materials embedded in the work’s surface.
In Marchand’s work over the past ten years, the emotional range, poetic import, and inner structures have evolved significantly. What remains consistent is this artist’s pursuit of a quality of mystery and sensuousness in ever-changing scenarios of transformation.

What I am going to say to the viewer might be a cliche here 2023 but here we go: get your head right and dig it, all kinds of stuff appears in Anne's use of paint. It's not what it is, it's about this is it.

Mediums and sometimes even water are added to the acrylic paints very little pigment is used, it’s not just straight paint. You buy fluid paints generally and it can get expensive but there are ways to save. So don’t get hung up on wasteful ideas, and just enjoy the act of creating, or observing.

Such a cold color palette. It seems that EVERY contemporary artist has a cold palette. I'd like to understand why.

Here's an idea: Kick over buckets of paint, more or less randomly, and call it art.

@@jhb61249 Sucker. And you don't even realize you are being had. Maybe you have never seen real painting because there is so much garbage out there. Do some real looking and you will understand the shortfall of these puddles of arbitrarily splashed paint. Mindless painting is not to be celebrated, it is to be lamented.

Without subject matter, arrangement of the elements is the ONLY vehicle of communicatin by the artist. Every one of these piles of paint is completely arbitrary in its placement...it tells you nothing about the artist. The intimacy that happens when you see the order the artist has imposed on their materials is missing entirely. Abstraction is not meaningless unless it is simply random, like these works. Meaningless.

@Doppe1ganger it is soooo cliche, especially the ever-present appeal to color. I can’t remember how many artists in these little docs say the same thing, as if it is special. It really comes down to a playground for one with lots of money (hence the waste of paint).
