Abstract Expressionism

Artist Mary Weatherford, USC Professor of Art History Suzanne Hudson and MOCA Chief Curator Helen Molesworth explore Abstract Expressionism. Weatherford Hudson and Molesworth discuss the heterogeneity of the Abstract Expressionists and the two men, Clement Greenberg and Harold Rosenberg, who drew them together through their aggressive historicization of this moment in painting.

WHAT AN INCREDIBLY MADE VIDEO ! the filmmaker is an expressionist himself . Perfect musical choice , perfect editing , the women being interviewed are living work of arts with true knowledge and respect for the artists and their artworks . Felt like we all met at once , meaning the artists long gone , the women on this video , the filmmakers and us the viewers met through this video all at once . As you can tell I just totally love this video . Time to find out who created the music .

In addition to the critics' Greenberg and Rosenberg's contribution towards helping crafting the philosophy of the AbEx movement, you should've mentioned Peggy Guggenheim and her championing of these artists.

As am artist I am disgusted and frustrated when non artists decide when a certain “style “ dies or ends and must go on to the next phase of what? Exactly!?? Nothing ends or start’s over..WE ..decide!! Not critics or gallery owners or “ museums” WE are not beholden to anyone because of money or fame or to find the next “thing” like Schnabels garbage plates or the fake street poor kid who became famous for being primitive or self taught and garish?? I like some of his work but admittedly coming from TV, media, Ads, or whatever he saw and to make it look “primitive” and unschooled is truly disgusting.. and although I appreciate his work.. some.. it just reeks of fake ness. For money and for drugs:.. I get it.. I love drugs as well but he just was in the right place at the right time.. almost a charlatan really… Especially when there are far more talented artists out there without recognition… And there are so many artists that I don’t understand who are so famous for what exactly? Keith Haring? Are you kidding me? Damien Hirst? Banksy? And that idiot who did sculptures of bubbles, giant topiaries of dogs? A guy who was never an artist and paid people to create bullshit? the art world is far in the way control by pseudo-intellectuals… People who think they know the next great thing… And then you have these Cito artist to do something weird, disgusting, alienating, provoking, just to be different, just to make a name for themselves, just to be famous… It’s no longer art… It’s just a dog and pony show and it’s lowest levels. I know there are some very talented artists out there we don’t get any attention and it’s really sad… That’s why I hate the whole Gallery system, the critics, all the other bullshit that comes with it… We, to Artist, need to stop this nonsense and take control of what we do no longer shall we be told that’s been done already, try something new… Everything’s been done… And everything hasn’t been done just because it’s Expressionism not every style is the same not every person copies each other… Sure there is times when it becomes derivative but so what? I don’t give a shit what critics think or what Gallery under sink… They only care about making money…
