Really, the span from 1975-1981 was such a productive era for Styx. They dropped 6 great albums in six years: Equinox, Crystal Ball, Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, Cornerstone and Paradise Theater. Their classic rock catalog can stack up against anyone.

Paradise Theater was their last decent album. Rockin' the Paradise, Best of Times, Snowblind, Too much time on my hands are worthwile.

"You want more? We got more!" You get more in concert - check out a live version. You're now deep in the heart of the Styx catalog (my next suggestions are in the comments of your reaction of "Suite: Madame Blue"). "Fooling Yourself" was the song that got me into Styx back in 1977. Enjoy your exploration - there's many more. Deep cuts from "The Grand Illusion" album are fan favorites "Man In The WIlderness" and "Castle Walls". After I got the "Pieces Of Eight" album(with "Queen Of Spades" and "Blue Collar Man"), I explored their earlier stuff - a whole new world of music.

A lot of people are recommending "Come Sail Away". Thought I should warn you that there are a lot of "Radio Edit" versions floating around KZread. Back in the 1970's and 80's, many radio stations played shorter versions of longer songs so that they could squeeze "more music" in per hour where really all they were doing was playing more songs, but the shorter versions of each. Record companies also released those short versions as singles. The full version, found on the album, clocks in at 6:10 and has a long first verse and an instrumental part before the second verse. The single version cuts out the second part of the first verse and the instrumental part.

This song brings back so many memories of highschool and still team. Styx was a band I listened to as often I did Queen. Loved both bands. When they were here a couple of weeks ago and I went with my sons and grandson we had so much fun. I have the cutest videos of my 3 yr old grandson dancing and trying to sing along. More great memories of Styx now!

Styx was the first concert I went to. Unfortunately I was too young to appreciate them. This was in the mid/late 70's.

I grew up in 70’s. I always saw this as a copy of the idea behind Bohemian Rhapsody. Similar story.

Two bands that were deep in talent with musicians, writers and showmanship. We were lucky to experience both.

They're completely different songs. One is about a man who knows he's going to die. The other is about a man who got caught by the law.

A lot of good hard rock and songs on this album pieces of eight renegade is just one of many. songs that nobody ever heard about, Great White Hope even Lord of the rings. Renegade biggest hits on the billboards for STYX on this album.Knock off socks in the beginning with the heart beating pump that starts blasting you into a iconic riff. What an opener right? This album and the Grand illusion put them in the next level.

The intro is actually the first verse and the initial explosion is the chorus.

I was 11 years old when I "borrowed" this 45 from my older brother's friend Mark. It was the hardest-rocking record I owned at the time (until I found Love Gun by Kiss). I still have that 45. I owe you one Mark.

What age does one need to be to remember 45s

@@davidbordonaro1631 Well, I remember when I got my first CD player in '88 it was possible to find CD singles. They didn't last long, and CD's took over from vinyl. So I'd say the popularity of vinyl 45's probably died off in 1990. So you'd need to be probably 40 or older to remember them. Bigger question, when Sheryl Crowe sings "got my 45 on, so I can rock on" is she talking about a record, sunscreen, or her Smith & Wesson???

The best part about your Styx journey so far: you haven't even been introduced to their third singer yet ;) While in all honesty not as popular as the other two lead singers (DDY and TS), James Young's songs add a third, even harder (almost metal) layer to the magical offerings Styx gave us. Check out "Great White Hope", "Snowblind", "Miss America", and many more!
