@@sarahjackson1860 there are two kinds of unsporting behavior. 1. Yellow which are minor i.e. kicking ball away to play time 2. Red for bigger, like this one shown here Edit: other example for red, spitting someone in the face or like the coach which threw the bottle But you are a referee, right?

If you're interested in learning more, look at laws of the game "Law 12, Section 3 - Fouls and Misconduct". "Unsporting Behaviour" is a yellow card offense and encapsulates many types of behaviours including the one here. It would be something along the lines of "Committing any other offense which interferes with or stops a promising attack" or "showing a lack of respect for the game" - both potential reasons to show a yellow for unsporting behaviour. Only team officials or substitutes would get a red card for throwing an object onto the field of play. The only reasons one of the 11 players on the field can receive a red card are: DOGSO (Denial of obvious goal-scoring opportunity) Serious Foul Play (endangering the safety of an opponent or using excessive force against an opponent). Biting/Spitting Violent Conduct OFFINABUS (Offensive, insulting, or abusive language or actions) 2 yellow cards What the player did doesn't fall under any of these categories.

They cannot 'close the gap' between themselves and the kicker, especially after the ref blows the whistle and the kicker takes their shot. It's not much different from sprinting straight at a free kick in the moments before a kick is made.

You always see the refs backing up as these guys go bonkers. Stand your ground. If they touch you, show them red. Let some games be 5-on-5 and they'll figure out to control themselves in a hurry.

The reason why you back up a little is to keep your field of vision wide enough to see as much as possible in case of multiple sanctions.

It’s the foul, or dive, that wins the free kick/penalty not the OTT dramatics. In the women’s game you never see the players acting like they’ve been zapped with a cattle prod at the slightest touch
