Absolute DISASTER When Out SOLO Canoeing! - They BROKE The Boat!!!!

Hello everyone!!!
This week I head over to Hertford to take out a lovely canoe for the day and to head off for a wild camp somewhere along the river….
The weather was beautiful and the nature along the river was thriving… All was going well on the river Lea.. I stopped off for a pint before carrying on the journey, I passed through a lock with a narrowboat, portaged the other…
I moored up to check my phone for a few minutes when I looked up and disaster happened.
check out Campbell canoes for some built to last, expertly handworked canoes.

    Fair play to you dude for staying so calm. I paddle on the Ouse and the Cam and encounter pissed up boaters regularly who either don’t notice me or don’t t give a fuck. I love a beer and a puff when I’m on the river but you need to stay in control and show respect for the environment and other people. Love your vids mate, keep it up!

    I've boated and fished on the Gt Ouse since I was a kid in the 70s. Unfortunately there are a lot of ignorant people who don't slow down for anyone, there are also now a lot of long narrow boats and huge wide beams that the river infrastructure was never designed to accommodate, and there are a lot of SUPs and Lidl inflatable kayak day trippers who haven't got a clue about river etiquette. It's not a great mix unfortunately. I'm sure we've waved at each other at some point though!

    I've spent a lot of time on the river, My folks had a nice modern cruiser and I had a racing kayak. Wonderful times. I've been considering a canoe for river camps for a while now. I will say it though, Yes we liked a drink but no we didn't drink and sail. You could have been injured or killed. Hope he pays for the damages and learns his lesson. Stay Safe, All the best.

    Well I know that stretch of river so well, loads of pubs in Herts , bit of bad luck with the boat,, but they say boating is a contact sport! 🤪, I live on my boat and my canoe lives on the roof , when I'm not paddling it, Those big steel boats are best steering clear of , I would have been gutted if happened to me , I hope you can come to an agreement with the wide beam owner ,

    Hi 👋 i got a question . Is it possible to travel across country using just river ways. Norwich to the river Thames for example. I got inspired by all these wild camping and paddling videos . I think it's a good way to de-stress . I like the idea of booking some time off work. getting my kayak out. setting off from a nearby river and paddling off on an expedition somewhere 😅 not sure if it's possible ? River trails 🤔 I got most the gear now. Getting Cambridge kayak beginning of next month then I'm booking time off 😊

Isn’t it illegal to be drunk in charge of a vessel? The River Lea brings back some memories, I remember my Gran taking me to visit some of our distant family on the Lea, they lived in the lock-keepers cottage at Rammey Marsh (Near Waltham Abbey), this was about 40 odd years ago mind. Anyway, better luck next time, give us a holler if you’re planning a paddle up the Waveney one day, would love to dust my 14 footer off and join you.

  • @nathanberry4339

    @nathanberry4339

    @@EastAnglianBushcraft boats should only be approaching locks in tick over any other speed is bad practice as they can crash into the gates and narrowboat take a while to come to a stop or slow down and have no steering in reverse , I always approach a lock in tick over then give it a kick of reverse so I'm barely moving forward I dont understand how they couldn't see you and how they even managed to hit you there , if they were going into the lock properly then they would have been a good few feet away from you at a very gentle speed theirs only two companies in the UK that manufacture lock gates which is partly why it's always best for boats to take so much care going into a lock

    I live on a 70 ft trad NB. The bloke steering that wide beam was an absolute pillock for doing what he did, being drunk in charge of a boat, (you can be prosecuted for that, by the way), people don’t realise that long boats don’t steer like cars and the ass swings out in the opposite direction from the bow, I assume that you were pinched to the bank by the aft? Don’t judge us all by his standards, fair play to you for being so chill about it, I’m less so when they smack the side of my boat because they come round the corner too fast and are three sheets to the wind. I hope he gets a right b0ll0cking from his insurance company, or even CRT.
