    I actually fractured one of my ribs recently on my CCE after playing around 18 holes a day + a ton of practice. Found out about the Sig Pro Softy and just got it cut into my CCE mat. Really looking forward to using it, and hoping I can stay injury free! It’s actually insane how rock hard my CCE feels in comparison to it. No wonder so many people get injured on them! I'd cut some lexan to replace the plywood you have underneath. Put the same rubber foam backing underneath the lexan just like you showed on your custom made divot strip. So the Sig Pro Softy on top, set that directly on to the custom lexan / foam insert underneath instead of the plywood. Rubber/foam under the lexan is touching the floor. Lexan is touching the cabinet tabs. Seems like the best of all worlds and super forgiving on the joints!

    Always enjoy and learn from your reviews. Regards the footwear: I found there is a difference between my tennis shoes and golf shoes, I'm thinking it's because the golf shoes add the proper amount of support for a faster swing speed. Of course there could be a different reason, but for me I get about a 10 percent increase in my swing speed when wearing my golf shoes. Validated this data on the range as well as with a mat on the back porch setup. As a side note I just upgraded from my SkyTrak (5 years) to a new Foresight GC3 what a difference, actually able to measure my swing speed.

    Love the review. I’m thinking about this mat for my new developing garage setup. I do love the light weight as I’d be moving the mat around when not in use. But I’m then worried it’ll slide around on the concrete. Should I get one with a base instead like the fiberbuilt? Trying to balance ease of movement vs having it stay in place. Thanks!

  • @GarageGolf

    @GarageGolf

    Жыл бұрын

    I would put the Sig Pro miles ahead of the Fiberbuilt in my honest opinion. It is a relatively heavy mat at 28 lbs but if it does slide I use double sided carpet tape or on concrete consider using dual lock velcro and I think you will be golden with it!

    Really like the thought process behind the Sig Pro Softy. I built a DIY sorta divot action mat and it works well, especially with putting. That definitely is a plus as compared to the Fiberbuilt flight deck. The ONLY think keeping me away from the Sig Pro Softy is the height of it. With my 3/4 inch puzzle mat and golf carpeting, it doesn't come anywhere near the height of this product.

  • @GarageGolf

    @GarageGolf

    6 ай бұрын

    Totally understand that if you want it all to be one level. The height of the mat is the key to protecting the golfer for sure with it's design. I normally advise people they can buy 1" exercise foam panel and glue or carpet them on top of each other to make that 2" total. That with the height of a turf on top should come out pretty darn close to 2 3/8 inches. Here is a link to the ones I recommend in 1" and they are relatively firm as well: amzn.to/3Of6sBt

    If there is a major difference (More than 1 inch) I would suggest possibly setting your existing mat on a 3/4 inch piece of plywood and glueing it down and cutting out the insert for the Sig Pro softy. If it is still off then consider using something thin like a roll out yoga mat or the liner for drawers or toolboxes or even exercise mats you can puzzle piece together to layer underneath the Sig pro to find the right height from there.

  • @GarageGolf

    The best thing to do would be to drop the insert inside of an existing Golf mat. You would just line up the insert on top of the other Mat were you would want to hit from and cut out the spot so the insert will drop in to the slot of the other Mat. If you need to build up the other mat to make it the same height as the insert, then I normally recommend exercise foam panels that puzzle piece together to build up the height. Most golf mats are about 1 1/2 inches tall, so if you buy 1 inch exercise foam panels, you could raise the height underneath the mat to accommodate for the insert. Reach out to me at roland@mygaragegolf.com with any questions. I’m happy to help.

    Mainly in general without the compression slot similar to the Sig Pro Softy, there is no room for a true down and through swing. You will find that most if not all pile mats (CCE, SwingTurf, 5 Star Golf Mats, Monster Mat) are very similar in design. Some are better quality than others (Swingturf, Monster Mat...in that order in my opinion) but still do not provide you with the same level of protection as something like the Sig Pro Softy. That and the durability is unmatched between the two in my opinion. I promise you that you will not be disappointed in this golf mat.

    @@GarageGolf I have a Monster Mat and cannot disagree with what GG said here - although I have used the heck out of mine and it is still going strong. However, there are other mats like Country Club Elite that are very similar in construction to the Sig Pro. It really depends on what you want the mat to do. Even on the Monster Mat I know when I hit a fat or thin shot. On better mats like the Pro Sig you might be able to determine the degree of how fat you hit it I will give you that, but that comes at a hefty price. I am 66 years old and have no pain or joint issues hitting using the Monster Mat (and I have arthritis) and I hit probably 150+ shot every day and I mean every day. Not digging on GG - I respect what he does and his reviews....for the most part - just giving you another perspective from someone who uses two other mats and have for a long time.

    Chris I do agree there is alot of it that comes off but one advantage of that is I can periodically check the bottom of my club and it actually gives me my swing path direction. It leaves me a direction grain on the club face that easily wipes off. I swing out doors so it's no big deal but I can see if this was in doors it would be irritating.

But ya mine is indoors in a nice clean area that I spent time and money on and that stuff just gets eeeeeverywhere after a few days and I’m vacuuming and cleaning more then hitting. I hoped after a long while it would stop rubbing off but it doesn’t, probably just in my head but it just gets worse the more I hit it. Wish it wasn’t like this cause it’s a great mat for the price, but I think since I can return it and get my 400 back I’m gonna exercise that policy and just bite the bullet and drop the extra 400 on this. The way I see it the home sim guys have to give up something somewhere. I have tried multiple mats and can say without a doubt the only mat that won’t cause injury is fiberbuilt. The knock is that it creates a lilttle more spin but you can still tell if you hit it fat it will increase spin leading to less distance. Your joint won’t get punished though. Divot action just was bad all around, true strike or a gel insert will eventually hurt your wrist if your a digger, other knock on true strike is the hitting base and putting as Roland pointed out. I’ve had monster mat, it will cause joint pain and leave junk everywhere. Haven’t tried sig pro softy but it’s very similar to the holy grail by hung ho golf. They all promised less grabbing but they will all either grab or provide to little vision for impact. It’s all a trade off, but if or should I say when pain starts just go with fiberbuilt. I haven’t been hurt in two plus years since switching and play all the time.

  • @GarageGolf

    I know everyone is going to have their own opinion but if you look at my new set up in my simulator, the area where the hitting insert is was originally designed for two 12 x 12 fiber built panels to go in there. I happen to have those because I own a fiber built golf mat as well. From my experience, there is a night and day difference between the fiber built golf mat and the sig pro softy. The Sig pro softy is superior in every way that I have tested in regards, to forgiveability, and especially with feel and mimicking more of a true golf shot than the teed up feeling that you get with a fiber built panel. The one plus I would give to fiber built, for sure, would be durability but again I’ve been using this mat for almost a year now without any issues at all.

    Not saying the Sig Pro is not a good mat, but it seems like every year there is a new mat manufacturer who has the new "best mat" there is....and it's always a lot more expensive than last year's "best mat" ever. I have a 5x5 Monster Mat (recommended last year) which works pretty well. I also have a Country Club Elite pad that is about 20x30 which, in my opinion, is about the best you can get. There is definitely a difference between the two, but neither one causes me any pain really and they are both quality products. I agree 100% that you should invest in a quality mat if you are hitting off them a lot. But there is really nothing that can simulate what it's like to hit off of real grass. That said...I just don't see how you (and I don't mean you personally) can justify spending $700 on a mat versus $500 for a very high quality mat. There is a pretty big difference between the high quality mats and the cheap ones. But once you get at the higher level there is little that separates them. No dig on you man I like your videos and respect what you do, but I seriously doubt there is anything about this mat that makes it worth roughly 25% more than others of similar high quality. Oh and I wear my golf shoes when I practice. I have an indoor pair just for this purpose.

    Hi Alan, I totally understand where you are coming from and do not disagree with some of your points. However I would state that it is important to keep in mind there is a big difference between what I would call a true recommendation for a product such as this video versus a review or initial impressions of a product that I have done previously on the channel. Same goes with almost everything that I review. It is my duty as part of this channel to test as many items out there that I can and inform our viewers on products and items that may interest them (Something like the Monster Mat being included). As I try to with almost all my videos I try to offer an honest and fair review and I never bash a product even if there may be some flaws. I do however offer points about what I do like and what I see as room for improvement in those items as I feel that is the most fair approach. I still put the Monster Mat in my Top 5 golf mats for sure but there were some things I did not like if you watch the video. So far on this channel there was only one other mat that as of the time I tested I felt was the best I had ever tested and that was the True Strike Golf Mat. Still my number 2 mat to this day. As per this video however I don't honestly feel the True Strike or the Monster Mat is on the same level as the Sig Pro Softy Golf Mat which for the life of me other than the price of a full mat I did not find a flaw in while testing. That is pretty rare for almost any product I test. I even cut the product thus taking away some of its stability of the hard shell that surrounds it and still it works flawlessly to this day. This is why I wanted to wait a full 6 months before I did a complete and thorough review vs something that I test and offer initial impressions on. For me the extra $200.00 would be more than worth it to protect my joints and elbows from pain as I am suffering from arthritis and have a history of crippling rheumatoid arthritis in my family. That also being said you could easily just buy the insert as well and drop it into an existing golf mat setup similar to what I have done in my space and actually save $300.00 over a full mat like the Monster Mat. That is an option that you do not have with the Monster Mat to be honest and another negative for that mat in my book. The fact that there are three ordering options versus just one is another huge plus for me. Just my two cents and just one person's opinion obviously but thought I'd share with you how I approach these things on the channel. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comments as always!

    I can appreciate your point of view but $199.00 for an insert that has lasted me almost 2 years now and still looks brand new? Couple that with hurting your elbow from a "cheap" mat that costs $600.00 and not being able to play golf for 6 months and then see how you feel about it...lol.

    Mannn you’re trippin seriously. The fact that you talk about having been using your own diy one made with lexan (which I also have been using since my fiberbuilt is tough on the body) and you talked UP this one with some ‘secret’ center is complete bs. I respected your channel before and stood up for you but I’m confused….. You’ve had this for 6 months and you somehow can’t see that it’s EXACTLY THE SAME as the lexan one only they’ve added super thick turf on top… Man I took it out of the box, looked at it for 3 seconds, seen the lexan sheet with the grass on top and the same foam under which I made only this mat is super thick. I wasted $200 which I’m sure you’re getting a kickback from. Thank you

    Lol. You sound like someone who hasn't even tried the mat. When you get a chance to test it then you can come at me however you want and I will gladly listen. Until you do you are just spitting out randomness to be honest. I give it straight, I don't B.S. and I never will. I make a profit on plenty of items whether it be this mat or something else, I'm not hiding that. I even mention in the video that if you use our affiliate links you help out our channel. I'm here to offer honest advice and input but I'm also here to make a profit like anyone else. That's my right as someone who spends the time and energy to make and edit these videos until 4am that you so easily dissect and decipher without true facts. When you personally test out the mat for 9 months straight and then do your own video review I will be happy to watch it and critique it in the way you have critiqued mine today. Until then, either watch or don't, it's your right obviously. P.S. There is no lexan glass on this product, at least not in the way it is setup when I made my own DIY mat that was shown in the video. I'm not sure if yours is different or not as I did not make yours. If you don't like the mat and you just received it, I am sure they are willing to allow you to return it. Maybe make that call as well as I feel it will be beneficial if you don't like it. Several others however have written and emailed me thanking me for my review and have had nothing but great reviews on this product that they have actually used and tested.

    Hahahaha I’m only joking!!!! Just wanted to get a reply before telling you that it’s the best mat ever. 😂👌 Nice not having the bang of lexan but also promotes you to hit down and through the ball because it definitely catches the club like a fat shot but even that doesn’t hurt

    @@GarageGolf Thank you and yes, I'd like to talk with you if that is possible? My concerns are as follow: I am not sure I like the idea of a small hitting area. I was thinking of the 6x6 FB with the thought I could move around and well as rotate the mat 90 degrees once in awhile so it would last longer. It seems like the FB base was heavy. I have hit on them at my local PGA store and they are quite stable. Wondering if the Sig Pro moves around? I am not a golfer that takes big divots and so the FB I have been hitting on doesn't seem to cause me any pain. That said, if the Sig is even easier on the joints that is something that interests me. Do you have experience with the FB Player Preferred mat? It sounded like it offered more joint protection but was not like their grass series which I think one could go right under the ball with. I am interested in your thoughts and would like to learn more about what you think of the different mats. Thanks!

    @@GarageGolf One other concern is the mat being grabby if you hit it a little fat. I understand hitting it fat on a real fairway will also be grabby but I'm not looking to necessarily mimic exactly a real fairway but more just something that allows the club to swing freely and like we know, maybe even if it is a little easier from a mat than real grass.

    @@Noone-dy7sh I believe this is the best mat I have ever tested. Great for everyday shots and forgiving on the joints but allows you to know when you mishit the ball as well. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you my link for it but a huge difference and upgrade from Fiberbuilt player preferred/performance series in my book.

Really looking forward to using it, and hoping I can stay injury free! It’s actually insane how rock hard my CCE feels in comparison to it. No wonder so many people get injured on them! Yes I injured myself as well with that mat. That's a lot of wear and tear on the body with a not so great quality mat over time. I always tell everyone I help that the Golf Mat is the biggest decision in a golf simulator build in my opinion. I think you'll love the insert for sure! Keep me posted with any questions.
