Above the Wall HD Part 1

This is an additional series to the Hadrians Wall series made for the 1,900 Anniversary in 2022. This time from above using the Drones flying East to West. Additional locations have been added to include the extended Roman fortifications at Arbeia in South Shields and the Fortlets near Maryport in Cumbria. The Entire route of the Wall itself is documented from Segedunum in Wallsend to the site of the Fort of Maia in Bowness on Solway, not done in the original series. The parts are released in HD over the coming months, but the final complete film will be released in 4K later this year. There is no Narration this time, only subtitles explaining the locations. Enjoy this Epic journey.

Thank you, Jon. I lived in Throckley from '58 to '66, when I left for Uni in Manchester, than came back temporarily for college in Newcastle. Loved those views of the West Road and what we call the Military Road.

Hi Chris, IT is the military road but not the one built by the romans it was built by General Wade during the Jacobite Rebellions to get artillery across the border from East to West quickly. The Roman Military road appears in one or two places immediately behind the wall and was put in after the wall was built. The next two parts of this mini series might reveal this. Best wishes Jon

Not my Air 3 havent got my licence for it yet! all done with the Mini 3 pro. Even when I get my licence I wont be able to fly over built up areas can only go up to 50mtrs away. I will use the Air 3 for the areas of the wall unpopulated, out over the sea in my current Durham series and later in the year when I begin filming the river tweed.

Hi Ida, sadly a lot of Hadrians wall was demolished by the Victorians during the Industrial Revolution. A prominent Businessman John Clayton managed to save a significant portion of it further to the west but nearly all has gone in the cities of both Newcastle and Carlisle. Episode two will be out very soon and you will see more of the wall and forts. Best wishes Jon
