I use a bundt cake pan over the inner cover.

When we get packages it's usually too cold to use your wooden hive top feeder. The bees can't break cluster when it's chilly to get to the syrup. The Jar feeder can be placed directly over the cluster from the package. The can get to the sugar syrup this way. I agree that the hive top feeder will be affective in the fall because the hive has grown to a point where they produce enough heat to get up to the feeder for the syrup.
