Excellent video. It really gives clarity to the modern abortion debate. If only the mainstream media would take this approach rather than promoting political screeching.

I really enjoyed the video, but I would argue that an embryo or fetus is more similar to a burglar than you posit here. An embryo or fetus can be easily described as ‘stealing’ food, blood, energy, and liquid from the pregnant person and could therefore be violently expelled from the property owners property.

Hmm, I’m no expert, but I’d argue that your example isn’t analogous. A fetus exists in utero in a sort of biological cooperation with the body of the mother, a sort of chemical and hormonal symbiosis. Also, it is reasonable to say outright that the uterus is the natural environment for a human fetus to develop. A home is not the natural environment for a thief, because a thief is an invader, uninvited and bearing malicious intent.

The difference is that, the mother puts the embryo inside her in the first place and causes it (whether intentionally or unintentionally) to be dependent upon her. The mother violated the bodily autonomy of the embryo not the other way around. This is analogous to me putting a tube in you while you are asleep and hooking it up in such a way that when I remove it you die and afterward claiming you are using up my bodily resources and disconnect.

A thought experiment I found helpful: imagine I have a Machine in the basement that every time I turn the lever I get a pleasurable experience, but there’s a chance Turning the lever may also result in the creation of new human infant. Additionally, if the infant producing outcome turns up the doors lock & I’m completely cut off from the world for 9 months. I know the risks & possible outcomes beforehand & willingly pull the lever. Assuming the infant is created & that the basement contains all material needed to care for infant (formula, diapers, infant clothing etc.) don’t I have an obligation to provide the basic necessary care to that infant? You can also do a similar thought experiment where the result is you create & are hooked up to a new dependent human. Idk, but by my lights there’s an obligation there to allow the use of my body, my resources. I strongly believe killing the infant/connected human wouldn’t be morally permissible, which is more aligned with the act of abortion. Legally speaking, I think the strongest pro choice route is arguing based on privacy, in light of the fact that embryos & fetuses are not considered persons by the case law & therefore aren’t covered by the 14th amendment. Doesn’t change the underlying things though.

@@commiehunter781 That would be true in IVF. Most people doing IVF though want to eventually have a baby, not an abortion.

@@markbirmingham6011 Wow that is one of the creepiest thought experiments I've ever heard of 😬 Sex can't magically create an "infant". It can create an embryo but an embryo isn't sentient and a fetus doesn't develop sentience and therefore personal interest until week 17. If "turning the lever" could actually create an "infant" I don't think anyone would ever turn it unless they happened to really like babies 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I would literally rather kill myself than be stuck with a baby in a basement!!!!!!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Person or not, it does not matter. Even if a fetus was officially recognized as a person, noone is obligated to let another person use their body, even if this would be to save their life. When it comes to ones own physical and psychological health and freedom, it is perfectly understandable and acceptable to do what needs to be done for self-preservation.

Here is my counter argument. Yes a mother has an obligation to take care of her young as best as she can. The unborn has a right to exist in their proper place and that’s the uterus that’s proper function is to bare a child. As her own body welcomes this offspring. So my question is do you believe the mother has zero obligation to the unborn along with anyone else ?
