Notes: -Abdulla's father is Jahsh Ibn Riyab Al Asadi and he is a haleef, the one who gave allegiance to Bani Abdi Shams and his mother is Umayma bint Abdulmuttalib (maternal aunt of Prophet ﷺ). All of her children would become Muslims but she passed away before that happened. -He was converted at the hands of Abu Bakr ra, joined Dar ul Arqam, made the second migration to Abyssinia and migrated to Al Madinah. -Hamnah bint Jahsh (widow of Musab), Zaynab bint Jahsh (wife of Prophet ﷺ), Ubaidullah bint Jahash (husband of Umm Habibah ra, became a Muslim before Prophet ﷺ started preaching Islam and might have died after leaving Islam in Abyssinia) and Abd Ibn Jahash (aka Abu Ahmed) are his siblings. -He was the first person to be known as Amir ul Mumineen (commander of the believers) or an Amir in Islam. -Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqas said that the Prophet ﷺ sent us on a raid and appointed Abdullah Ibn Jahash as our commander, so he was the first Amir in Islam. -Unfortunately this raid, known as the Nakhlah raid against Quraysh, went wrong. Muhammad ﷺ gave Ibn Jahsh a letter, but not to be read until he reached Nakhla (between Mecca and Taif) and it was written to observe what the Quraysh were doing and try to disrupt them without fighting because this raid was in the sacred month of Rajab but a fight broke out. -When they came back to the Prophet ﷺ, he ﷺ was upset because a person was killed on the other side and two captured in the sacred month. -"They ask you concerning fighting in the Sacred Months. Say "Fighting therein is a great (transgression) but a greater (transgression) with Allâh is to prevent mankind from following the Way of Allah, to disbelieve in Him, to prevent access to Al-Masjid-Al-Haram and to drive out its inhabitants, and al fitnah is worse than killing." (2:217) Quraysh were making fun of Prophet ﷺ that he commanded his people to fight in the sacred month and thus showing how unethical he is so Allah SWT revealed this ayat by absolving Abdullah and the Muslims. -He also fought in the Battle of Badr. -Sa'd Ibn Waqqas and Abdullah made dua before the Battle of Uhud started, to grant them martyrdom and Sa'd said that the dua of Abdullah was better than his. -In the battle of Uhud, he was killed by Al-Akhnas ibn Shurayq and his nose and ears were cut off. Prophet ﷺ was grief stricken. -He was buried in the same grave as Hamzah ra.
