Getting hyped for the season on some Knapton vids in ‘22, and this stands true!
Love those safety looks, especially when it appears that you are the only person on the whole mountain lol

Shouldn't take getting hit but seeing it happen and getting hit twice plus hitting two people during my early days l look just as often or more than he does. The first guy I hit was sitting on the edge of a cat track and decided to jump up and out without looking just as I went for a 360 off the edge of the cat track, got my board between his legs and his board and we tumbled at least 30 feet after landing. No injuries but was scary thinking I took that dude out so hard. The other one was 100% my fault, was impatient at the end of the day and a skier doing snow ploughs turned 3 times in a row in the same direction when I guessed two turns before they would turn the other way. I guessed wrong and almost lost my pass since it happened near a lift with ski patrol waiting in line.

Best edge control in the business!!!! Can we have a rolling edge to edge video??
The sound of the board cutting through the snow is the best. I'd love to watch a video of Ryan's riding without any commentary, just the ambient sounds.

This season was my first to live in Colorado which has afforded me the wisdom to pull off a run and find a chill spot in the trees to just enjoy the moment and listen to the edges carving snow… I used to live by the ocean and it’s a very similar experience
Brotha! You are truly an inspiration. Thank you so much. I’m gonna buy your stuff just because you help my riding so much
Excellent video!! Great tips to improve my heel side carved. Glad to learn I’m not the only one who struggles with these!
I love that you make this relatable. You rock! Working with Donek on a wide enough board for those of us with large feet so I can carve and still have freestyle fun factor.
Carving is fabulous and those carving butters are so stylish
Great tips! Been working on my heelside a lot this season.
this is terrific. I am a new snowboarder, and I've been struggling with my heel side skidding. This is a perfect tutorial for me.
Huge! Best snowboard tutorials ever ..
Your riding is SO smooth and graceful! I love how simple you make it and brake it down so well that beginners like myself can pick it up & begin apply it immediately!! So glad I stumbled upon your channel, I’m now a follower (subscribed) and newly addicted snowboarder!
Dude! Ryan this is quality. This is probably the most helpful video I have watched from you. Thank you bud!
Many thanks. You never stop learning... your driver x and stiff bindings are helping also. Equipment is also key in my opinion.
Love a nice heelside carve, even if you wipe out, worst case you get some pow up the backside : )

Yes I still slip out on my heel side now and then. No biggie as its always an easy pop up with just a bit of slow down. Typically when I am thinking about something other than snowboarding.....
Ryan your videos are always my favorite thank you sir! You make it maximum fun
Ryan, I've been watching your carving videos for some time. Now I just came back from five days skiing in Riksgränsen, at the peak of northern Sweden. It is an 18 hour train ride from Stockholm. Still 2.5 m snow up there. I practiced your heal side carving tips and they made a ton of difference. The heal side has always been a weak side for me. Wonderful to finally get the technique right. Great fun. I'm so grateful. Thank you!
Ryan I really felt like the tip about keeping weight on the forward leg made a big difference, thank you
Thanks for the tips! I definitely noticed it's easier to turn heelside with more forward lean on the high back! Still dialing my board in really fun to experiment
Tx for all the tips man! 40+ rider here too! 💪
Thanks once again for a very useful video. I just bought me a Splitboard with a softboot binding and have a bit of a hard time as a decades long hardboot carver.
One of the best tips I ever got was practicing edge to edge carving on the easy runs.
you are the best snow boarder ive ever seen in my entire life
Uphill safety looks!! Such an important skill!! Looooove it!!

Apparently we don't do it enough and that's why we are still banned from Deer Valley Resort...
Couple of key points that I have learned with some boards that are too narrow for my boot & binding size is that proper board width selection and proper binding placement makes a HUGE difference for backside carving. Making sure the highbacks/heelcups aren’t hanging off the back edge is vital to preventing boot-out & getting some good leaned over angles on heel side carves! Killer vid Ryan! Can’t wait to try some wider boards and improve my heel side carves! Mahalos & Aloha, Happy Shreddin, & Qaplaah!
Great tips, Great Snowboarding, Nice Jacket👌
love you Ryan! Thanks for the tight tips and videos!
This is the video I needed but didn’t know I did. Can’t wait to practice these tips!!

Thank you. Love every single tip ❤️
Great tips Ryan. #9 Track analysis is way easier if you ride down under a lift! That's way easier to do at our small eastern resorts.
Thanks Ryan! You’re the man!!

Thanks Man! Next week's is a real good one too. 😀🤘
The uphill saftey check is totally pro. 🤘
Smart. Well spoken dude.
Perfect example of why you do safety checks right @ 6:00 as Ryan was talking about it. The skier going off the lip is doing nothing wrong, hes shredding hard like we all should, but pay attention to your surroundings ya'll because not everyone else is! Being on the mountain is like being on the road, Shoutouts from from Vail!
Ryan is as smooth as silk on the slopes!
Great tips! I’d add that you can adjust the turn radius by tilting your knees lengthwise along the board to flex it. Bring them in for a tighter turn, push them out for a wider turn. 🤓👏
Awesome tips as usual Ryan! I found out while teaching friends how to do heel side carves that once they have most of your basic tips down the last bit that really helps them consistently leave pencil lines on their heel side is where their head and shoulders are facing. It's natural instinct for us to look and face down the mountain. If I'm having issues with my heelside carves that's usually the issue and something I catch myself doing from time to time. Once I convinced my friends to turn their heads across the slope and to open their shoulder in that direction, their heel side carves were a lot cleaner and more consistent. Helps to get them committed to the turn and properly pressure the heel edge. Super basic but super important. Hope that helps someone out there :)

This plus the slight weight on the front foot, 60/40 perhaps as he says, has done wonders for me personally. Great observation and advice as this had not occurred to me until you pointed it out. When you are in a toe side carve shoulder and head seem more naturally aligned with the direction where you are going. Heel, not so much. It is a different sensation when done right as compared to skidded heelside turn...

@@ivanm5209 Thanks for reminding me of the 60/40 weighting since I am still often skidding out on my heel side

Thanks for the tips so helpful
Excellent video. Best carving video I have seen. I wish everyone would watch this video as it is hard to watch (I used to teach carving) most snowboarders skid through their turns with their back hand waving around and their weight on their back foot.

Thanks. Obviously my vids won't change the masses... But the thing that bugs me is say a perfect groomer on a steeper pitch... And then at a busy resort like Breck... I literally fall here and there carving on it after say 10 am, just cuz skier and rider only skidding and scrapping it down to ice to a level even my razor sharp edges still can't grip in. 😩. Oh well, at least the flatter terrain stays decent.
most killer intro dude
Thank you Ryan! Great vid
Ryan I really enjoy your video’s
4:15 Ryan you're so good you can't make a turn wrong even when you try it! LOL!
Great 🏂 tips👌!
Thank you Ryan
Amazing!! Missed out on First a lot this rain but I’m back! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑
Amazing tips!! Thank you!!
Good call on the safety checks.
Imma try the high back angle adjustment thanks for this
Ryan thanks for the video! it helped me with my heelside craving. BTW going to bear mountain this Saturday practice what I learned lol
Hek, i want to ride where he is. It is like freaking nobody is on the slope! Great videos and awsome carving!!!
I love how you emphasize safety while teaching rad s@#$, great job!
ROCK!!!!! THANK YOU RYAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Up hill safety checks... dude you say this so much... like every video. Youve programmed me now. Damn you Ryan, you've managed to inspire my ride and make me a safer rider.
Damn that snow looks so good
Im learning carving, today was a great day in the slopes. My hillside really needs to improve though. I get a good speed carving toe side, but when I turn to hillside, I spread a lotta snow in high speed and it causes me to fall sometimes, specially if there bumps. Gonna try this tips tomorrow
Carving is one of the best feelings ever, no doubt
I found that I really struggled with the toe-to-heel transition because I wasn't committing my weight to that front foot. Higher speed = more fear = bad weight distribution. Self fulfilling prophecy haha. Great video I learned a bit from this as a snowboarder transitioning into my intermediate stage
This video made me realize I always kick my back leg on heels side transitions. Thanks
tip number 10 is really helpful
exactly what i needed, ty!
Likes for squats... Ryan you are turning into a instagram model 🙈 Thanks for your Videos!
Nice tips as usual. My main problem with heel side carves seems to be holding the edge all the way through. I was riding it once and got some nasty chatter when I started to really cut across the run. Also, the closest I could come to guesstimating your speed is it looks like you travel the length of your board about 4 or 5 times per second. Assuming a board length of 158, that would be approximately 20-25 feet per second which is approximately 13-17mph. That's as close as I could come. Honestly, I'd say that's a bare minimum, but I just wanted to try to get a better idea of how fast you were going and that was the best idea I could come up with. 😂
I’m more of a surfer so not well versed on different boarders and styles. I just try to ride the mountain like a wave. I’d never seen you ride before today and it’s incredible. Most videos are tips for beginners but these are definitely going to help improve my riding. It’s art how you use a board, thanks!
Very good video
Great tips, 🤙
Ha! Nice tip about the "sitting in a chair" feeling. I always tell my guys they should pretend sitting on the john lol :)
I love that Man. Platonically, of course.
Thank you brother
Thank you so much for making this video! I'm very comfortable carving on my toes but when I try heel side and really lean into it I end up on my butt. Gonna give it a try next week.
Nice tips!
awesome tips
thanks, looking forward to hearing about the toe side carving and grab as well ^=^
Love your videos. Started carving after seeing you. Can we also get a video for the toe side? I struggle with toe side but not as much as heel side and don't want to wait till 'T'
Love your videos man. Can you please do one on the next step to go from carving like this video to full lay-down heel side carving? Toe side I can get my hands and forearms down, and it's a lot of fun. Hell side when I'm carving like you in this video and I try to get my hands or arms down I feel like twisting around makes my hips and knees turn, so then the board turns *really* sharp (basically across the fall line) and it's all over way to fast. I feel like I need to use my legs to force the nose of the board to point down the fall line more... is that right? Thanks man, keep it up!
Def gonna get my carve sorted this year (only get 1 week a year 😫)
Always a pleasure to watch your videos, Ryan. What is your board's camber profile?
GOD TIPS!
New subscriber 😎🔥
Man I wish our slopes looked like this. PS. I like how he reminds people to look up hill. So many people here just go down the hill not looking before they turn and it's dangerous. The slopes usually try to make it so that people give those ahead the right of way but the problem is you get people on the trails who aren't capable of maintaining even a moderate speed and you either sit on your back edge behind them or you pass them. I try to call out to people what side I am on, but I would like to see more people actively observing their surroundings and not just cutting across the slope without warning.
Thanks bro
So nice to watch your art ! Years of practice . I’m new and love to carve what is the best carving board in your opinion to purchase I am 5 foot 10 and 200 lbs
I'm doing something weird with my rear knee in heelside carves this week, which is working, but I'm not totally sure what it is. In my head, I'm turning/pushing the rear knee towards the nose of the board. Oh, and it makes my rear thigh BURN. So it must be good!! 😃😉
Hey Ryan! Love the series, my question is about the hard carve on the heelside edge. I always have my highbacks or heel digging into the piste when I go for a deeper angle, this will occasionally happen with my toe side aswell. Is my board just not wide enough? Or is there something my equipment should be set to. Thanks for the content!
좋은팁 감사합니다~
Go Ryan go- I love the long shred vids with loads of tricks and nice tunes but these tutorials are an essential as well. Where’s Kristen and Katie?
Thanks for the tips! What type of board are you using?
For those really struggling to nail their heelside carving, try running posi posi for a day. It gets your hips pointed more downhill can help you work out what a heelside carve should feel like. Then start to move your back foot more towards your preferred angle and you will probably remember the earlier feeling of a good heelside carve.
Hi Ryan, first of all, congrats for the video! Could you be please so kind and let me know about the angle of your bindings?
Hi Ryan, great tips, how do you ride with the camera, tried it filming extended and it threw me out of balance so much I had to stop.
