Family friendly halloween classics do not get much better than this.

This is and always will be a instance classic. Ahhhh what fond memories this brings me.

I see a lot of you grew up in the 70s, I grew up in the 90s. But still enjoyed what the 80s and some of the 70s had to offer!

Back when America was America and we did shows like this now they would probably call This Racist now or something because all the characters aren't black or Dracula is not a transvestite LGBT x y z y4 person LOL and he's a rapist for biting people on the neck lol East part of rape culture Dracula is of course LOL

​@@tubesocksbrigade3031back when America was America and we had all our great traditions of Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas and it's Prime form now all these stupid immigrants come over here and they destroy all our customs and traditions and we're always worried about offending people they wouldn't be able to make this show right now because they would say it's because of the witch being a woman or they would come up with some reason why they couldn't make this immigrants coming to our country and destroying everything destroying all of our cultures and traditions

The breaks in between really add to the nostalgia

Loved this old special! Judd Hirsch as Dracula and Mariette Hartley as the Witch. So full of so many great jokes!

Ha. I just watched this a few days ago. (A few days ago I popped in the old cassette with all the old Halloween specials... Garfield, Pumpkin That Couldnt Smile, Charlie Brown, Witch's Night Out... and this.)

Anyone else here grow up in the chicago area in the 70s? Remember "James at 16"? I miss old TV, where you got new shows in the Fall on a few channels...and those shows went away for summer. As a TV lover I do like all of the options we have now with netflix, hulu, etc but sometimes i wish for the old stuff. I guess i am feeling nostalgic watching this YT channel

For the longest time all I could remember about this movie was the end disco scene. I'd google it and could never find it--almost thought I dreamt it up!

As a child, watching this for the first time in 1979, I thought this was silly. Now, it's hilarious and bizarre. Thank you for posting it's premiere airing.

Perfect casting. Always loved Henry Gibson and Judd Hirsch just hams it up as the Count! Everyone looks like they’re having a blast.

Such awesome memories watching this as a kid!

Fun fact: John Schuck (Frankenstein) would later go on to play Herman Munster in the Munsters Today modern syndicated series from 88-91. Back then as a kid it was heresy to me that anyone would dare fill Fred Gwynne’s shoes. I still stand by it today (though Schuck is still a fine actor in his own right).

I’m born and raised in Chicago. I loved the field trips from school to the Museum of Science and Industry. Also the Museum of Natural History. I believe I was in 1st or 2nd grade when we made a trip to the Bozo the clown show. I was the girl selected in the audience to play the buckets. I won up to bucket #3 and arrived home with lots of gifts. I’ll never forget my mom was home sick in bed that particular day. What memories this channel. I’m 63 right now. That was a long time ago.

This brings back happy memories. I remember feeling so excited about Halloween and going out Trick or Treating. This reminds me of when Halloween was so much more fun and even safer . Thank you for posting this 😊

I was wrong in this error and I don't remember this particular special but thank you for bringing it in here. I enjoyed it and I would have enjoyed it way back. When too, it's nice to have a flashback. From that time period the halloween specials to do nowadays are kind of boring

I remember this funny show. It has a reference to Young Frankenstein, which was re-released in 1979. Another cash-in that year was the short-lived sitcom Struck by Lightning.

I grew up watching seventies television but I don' t remember this..or, do I? It"s been so long- but what a blast! Cool as can be, and Mariette Hartley in that red dress...wow. The original commercials with the Kenner logo appearing slowly- a time trip back to my youth! Thank you so much for the upload! Did I mention Mariette Hartley in that red dress? Ah...the things you notice as an adult...

Someone watched Lugosi growing up.

When I first saw this a few years back, it was my introduction to Mariette Hartley. And with the few straight-laced/subdued performances of hers I've seen (of the same era - Columbo, Little House On The Prairie, etc), I still can't get over how wacky she is in this role. 😆 Also, the ending & disco scene always tend to stick with me the most -- tonight I heard a song on the radio ("Keep On Dancin' by Gary's Gang) that immediately reminded me of the end of THTAW, and likely served as its melodic/thematic inspiration.

Lol not only is this very good but it's also very informative....

Gil Hodges(no, not the NY Mets player) with the commercial break bumpers; he would serve as the v/o for the *Eyewitness News* broadcast in New York after Scott Vincent's departure from this world.

Must of missed this, in '79!! Judd Hirsch was still, fresh out of 'Taxi', too. The little boy says, "But we're still going to have a Halloween though, aren't we"?? Not if the Christians have, their way kiddo 😆!!! The wife says, "The first day in November, used to be called, All Hallows Day". That's incorrect!!! 'November 1st, is All Saints Day'🙄. That's from what, I've read. Actually, for a kids pic, it's kinda adult (i.e., kids don't levy bargains, have ultimatums, want to disco dance💃, etc.). Judd was excellent, as Dracula!!! Didn't see that coming 😉. Maybe television's first, Jewish Dracula, also. Thanks for, the 'viewing' 👍!!!
