ABC Network - Saturday Morning Cartoons - Ending of The Super Friends & Opening of Fangface (1979)
Ойын-сауық
Here's a really great clip I found recently at the end of a Betamax tape - the ending of The Super Friends and the opening of Fangface on WLS Channel 7 during ABC's Saturday Morning Cartoons line-up, along with some complete commercial breaks. Includes:
Ending of The Super Friends, including the De-Coder Solution
ABC-TV Saturday Morning bumper - "Asian girl making sandcastles"
Star Wars Action Figures by Kenner - Luke Skywalker X-Wing Pilot outfit - R5D4 - and Greedo. (I think it's a 1978 Copyright)
Trix cereal - "Captain" with Battlestar Galactica stand-up cards promotion (1978 Copyright)
Time For Timer - "Sunshine On A Stick" animated ABC Network PSA
Super Friends ending credits (voiceover by Ed Jordan)
Schoolhouse Rock - "Great American Melting Pot" (briefly interrupted by a switch to another channel and some edits before going back to SR)
Schoolhouse Rock - "America Rock" bumper (voiceover by ??)
Star Wars - Destroy Death Star board game by Kenner (1977 Copyright)
Schoolhouse Rock "ending credits" bumper
Yuck Mouth animated ABC Network PSA from "The ABC Bod Squad"
ABC Network ID bumper (voiceover by Ed Jordan)
Hershey's Whatchamacallit candy bar
WLS 3:30 Movie bumper promo for "Allegheny Uprising" (voiceover by Art Hellyer?)
Opening to Fangface
ABC-TV Saturday Morning bumper - "All-Star Saturday" with a baseball theme
Kellogg's Froot Loops cereal - "Alien Invasion"
Nestle Quik chocolate milk mix - "You can't drink it slow if it's Quik" - "Bedtime, Bunny"
Beginning of Fangface episode
This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, March 3rd 1979.

I was born in December 1966 those days were awesome and wonderful back in the 70's. It makes the people who were around those days to cry, think, wondering, and hoping to go back to those days again. Oh well we can dream about it, it doesn't hurt to remember those days.

Steve, I was also born in 1966, and I remember those days too. My brother would say eating cold Big Mac's. lol for breakfast.
Can't get enough of this stuff. It's like I can almost feel myself sitting in front our old floor model tv watching this.
Crazy how something so simplistic of just watching cartoons on Saturday morning we took for granted, and from the comments here from most of us we would just love to go back to that simple time once again... : )
I'm from Chicago and remember getting up Saturday morning to watch this and other Saturday morning cartoons on WLS as a little kid back in the glory days of ABC, CBS and NBC still having Saturday morning cartoon lineups. Thanks for the memory. Sadly that's long a thing of the past now that the original Big Three networks killed Saturday morning cartoons in particular and the broadcast networks and local TV stations in general these days allotting almost all their daytime programming hours to more adult programming (expanded local news broadcasts and ridiculous talk shows that depict adults who have no self control in their dating and sex lives) and what programming they do aim to kids more suited to those kids who are in their teens.

Those days might return with a new era of Saturday morning cartoons, starting next year, as CBS plans to return to televising SatAM cartoons in the 2023-24 season and this may have a domino effect as both ABC and NBC may also follow suit. BTW, you can thank MeTV for forcing CBS's hand. This will be a gradual process, so let's stay on top of this!!!

Love the Schoolhouse Rock segments!
The original Schoolhouse Rock opening with the kids getting off the bus heading to the school. Sweet!! This came long before the Schoolhouse Rocky opener.
Thank God 4 The Late '70s!!!
Great clip, thanks for the post. I miss old television promos and station bumpers.
I wish I was born again in the 70s and enjoy the 80s again, damn how I miss those days,
Man that really takes me back to the days of eating cereal in front of the tv on Saturday morning.
Amazing how good the Betamax still looks! I remeber the yellow guy @ 2:12. We got a few of these stations up here in Canada back then. God! I think we still have that Ice Tray at my parents! LOL!
wow what nice memories when i was so happy/ this brings fond memories the only reason I woke up early. I wish Abc would have a kids section once again.
This really brings a tear to my eye. On a side note, that's AMAZING video quality for 1979. I have stuff from the 90s that don't look that good. Please post more.
Wow! I remember Timer, Yuck Mouth, Schoolhouse Rock and Fangface from ABC Saturday mornings! Laff-a-Lympics was the high point of my week! :-P D.
i remember getting up saturdays and watching these.
Saturday morning good times!!!!
Love the commercials as well! Thanks for uploading. I was 10 in 1979, so this was right up my alley.
Oh man! If you've got more Saturday Morning stuff, I will die a happy man!
Today, School House Rock would be called fake news.
Great time capsule of the golden days of Saturday morning cartoons...much thanks for the upload really takes me back...love the commercials.
Thanks SO much for this!

I feel so-sorry for the kids of today. The reason why I say that is this, Unless you are watching cartoons like this is either: (1) You are seeing this on a computer, or (2) You are about 50 or OLDER, I was 11 when this cartoon came out in 1978, Well me myself I am 53 now, but GOD! what I wouldn't give for the kids of today (and me as well) be able to watch this (and others) on not ABC, but also NBC, and CBS. KEITH MR HILLBILLY
I had a deja vu moment with the Star Wars commercial! Thanks so much for this!
I second that. I'll buy them too.
This is good stuff! Thanks a million!!
The best Era ever for Saturday mornings
I remember later that year fangface was moved up 30 minutes earlier, in the southern illinois area it was the first show that was the start of the broadcasting day for this abc affiliate in harrisburg!
Thanks for making me feel about 6 or 7 years old again...memories can be so vivid...I can still feel the energy from the Saturday morning hype back when we only had 4 channels.
This is one of the Schoolhouse Rock season 3 episodes that aired on ABC TV in 1979.
Yuck Mouth was the icing on the cake...
Talk about Memory Alpha! This brought back awesome memories from my childhood. Now all I need is a bowl of Fruit Loops and I'm good to go. :-)

Yeah, Zan & Jana-- the Donny & Marie of superheroes. ... but who was space monkey Gleek supposed to represent?
I'm 8 years old again. At the time, we lived in New Orleans. After the candy ad, WVUE would likely play a clip of "Tom & Jerry" with the V/O saying, "Watch TOM & JERRY, weekdays at 3:30 on Channel 8!"
I Miss Mr. Ed Jordan!!!

Around 1978-1979 WLS or TBS had a cartoon block where they would show popeye and droopy cartoons, They showed a classic droopy cartoon where the soundtrack was off by as much as 20 seconds.. This was repeated every few weeks and it was never fixed. It was hilarious. Does anyone else remember seeing it? It was about droopy vs his familiar nemesis at a circus. Thanks for uploading this treasure.
I swear the late 70s was the best time to grow up.
I'm from Chicago also. And I know a thing about Saturday morning blocks
"Wanna buy a droid?" Finally, toys that let children re-enact the commerce scenes from action blockbusters!
It was nice to see Michael Young if not for only a brief second.
I would pay for Saturday Morning memories on VHS tape, I couldn't pay a great deal of money since my budget is quite limited, but I would really be interested in helping to preserve these memories for future generations.
A great time for tv.
oh my god i saw that commercial with the talking lemon that made the toothpick ice snack approximately 100 trillion times when i was a kid. i even tried to make those snacks, it turned out iffy.
Dam I forgot about this I feel old. Now I remember this crazy.
YES, "Kids Are People, Too" at 5:29 with Michael Young and Geraldo Rivera.

8:49 AHHHHHH THAT SCARED ME
I always liked those de-coder segments.
KISS action figures! i remember looking in a catalog with all of them in it I wanted them so badly
*Sony has recently given me access to a rare VHS tape containing an early prototype of the museum of classic chicago & tokyo*
I totally dig the "Great American Melting Pot" from Schoolhouse Rock at 03:48 and I don't even ever been to the USA and have NO intention, for what that matters!
Good
Man. Networks. Have no. What Saturday mornings are all. About
I sure remember watching Saturday Morning Cartoons as a kid. Do you have any of those line-ups that were originally aired in 1977 but on KABC-TV in my area, Los Angeles, California?
Whatchamacallit - strange that I bought one of those yesterday, for the first time in probably years; these days they've added caramel at the bottom (I don't think it really needed that, but they're still good). The "Sunshine on a Stick" PSA was awesome - especially when the little guy says, "Fill it with Orange Juice, Pomagranite Juice, Lemonade, or *whatever turns you on*!" (I think this was a nod to the parents to fill the tray with wine or to add some vodka to the juice). Fangface. Am I the only one here who was turned on back in the day by Kim's short skirt? She was a hottie!
I miss those simple days. I miss my mongoose and mi KISS action figures.
7:39 how SR used to end in the 70's until circa 1980 or 1981
I guess they do not make these Saturday morning cartoons on all networks like that no more since the good ole days of Saturday morning cartoons are long over, right?
I liked this opening much better than Schoolhouse Rocky. This is probably the first time I saw this since the 1980-81 season.
So question......HOW did you get the footage off of your Betamax and upload it to YT?!?!? I have VHS tapes from the 80s and 90s that I would love to upload!

@@kascnef I just learned from Wickipedia that in the last two years of his life, Frees had multiple illnesses including arthritis, diabetes, and lack of vision. He also complained about constant pain. When he died on November 2, 1986, it was suspected that he committed suicide because police found sleeping pills in his bedroom but that was ruled out. It was reported and confirmed that he died of heart failure. Paul Frees was best remembered as the voice of Boris Badenov in the ADVENTURES OF ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE.😥
damn, trix cereal is old
could u please find the original CAPTAIN CAVEMAN(1977) closing
Oh, and by the way, if you've got full tapes of Saturday Mornings with commercials, I'd pay good money for copies on DVD. I feel like a kid all over again!
