ABC Afterschool Specials - "Stoned" - WLS Channel 7 (Complete Broadcast, 11/12/1980) 📺 🚬 😵

Ойын-сауық

Here's the (mostly) complete, first-run broadcast of the ABC Afterschool Special, "Stoned" (S09E04), as aired over the ABC Network via WLS Channel 7. See below for modification notice.
This cautionary tale stars Scott Baio (Happy Days, Charles in Charge) as a go-getting student, Jack Melon, who ends up going far astray - and falling in with the "wrong" crowd - after smoking cannabis for the first time, thus putting his future in grave danger. Also starring Vinnie Bufano, introducing Largo Woodruff (as Felicity), and co-starring Jack Frich, Steve Monarque, Barton Heyman, Ira Elliott, and John Herzfeld.
Includes:
Station ID slide with promo for Adler Planetarium (voiceover by ??)
Notice of preemption for Afterschool Specials (voiceover by Bill Owen, who also handles return bumpers and sponsor billboards)
Preview of coming show, followed by ABC Afterschool Special opening titles
Episode Act I, with opening credits
Sponsor billboard for Kellogg's
Commercials for:
Kellogg's Sugar Corn Pops cereal (animated; with Poppy the porcupine at the gate of an airport with geese about to fly south for the winter)
Starburst Fruit Chews (sung by Florence Warner)
Episode Act II
Commercials for:
Kellogg's cereals - "Building a Better Breakfast"
Listermint mouthwash
Crayola Caddy - "It's Fun to Create with Crayola"
Oreo - "Creamy Chocolate Sensation"
Episode Act III
Commercials for:
Aziza Mascara with Sealer - by Prince Matchabelli
McDonald's - young winter skiers having fun and chowing down
Love 'n Touch Baby doll - from Mattel
Episode Act IV
Commercials for:
Bubblicious bubble gum - "The Ultimate Bubble Has the Ultimate Flavors"
Kellogg's Cocoa Krispies cereal - with Tusk the elephant giving encouragement to a budding young trumpet player
Aim toothpaste (with kid scouts brushing their teeth)
Johnson's Baby Corn Starch (posted separately here: • Johnson's Baby Corn St... )
Episode Act V
Modification notice: On the original tape, the recording stopped after the final ABC Afterschool bumper finished, after Act V completed. (it seems the person recording this started the timer a few minutes early) So to make up for this, the following commercials after this point were swapped in, as they were aired before the program began. Lastly, the end credits were missing from this recording as well, so they were borrowed from another source for continuity's sake.
PSA's for:
BUILD (Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development)
American Dairy Association of Wisconsin - "Makin' Time for Milk" (doesn't it kind of sound like she's saying "It's time for milkin' me?")
National Education Association - "Today's Teachers - Partners in Our Children's Future"
Commercial: Portable Hot Wheels Service Center - from Mattel
Episode ending credits
This aired on local Chicago TV on Wednesday, November 12th 1980 during the 3:00pm to 3:57pm timeframe.
This was from a tape donated to The Museum of Classic Chicago Television as part of The George Jen Collection.
[Note: No, you’re not high - this was featured as a "Fuzzy Rerun" and re-posted here: • ABC Afterschool Specia... ]

57:11 My Fisher-Price three-story garage play set can beat up that garage play set. It had an elevator that dinged every other crank of the handle and when it reached the top level, the floor in the elevator cab would tip up as the "stop sign" gate would tip up and the car would go rolling down the ramp. The top level also had a rotating platform that you caused to rotate by turning another crank to make the car be in different positions in order to "drive" into it's parking slot. The car jack, though not attached to the garage, was also included. You turned a handle to make it go up so it can be "worked on".....

When I what's the age that these kids are basic weed was so mild you could sit and Smoke 4 hours and barely get a buzz. We have to get things like Thai stick or Acapulco Gold to get really stoned. I have to stop smoking years ago. It got so strong that it just made me paranoid. I can consume enormous quantities I've noticed things but of course the one that they legalized I'm not interested in any more. Hard to believe that I had friends that were sent to jail for five years for a bag of stems and seeds. Man times have changed. Never imagined in a million years that they would literally have weed stores that the government would profit from.

Oh my goodness 😁 I haven’t see this since hurrying home after school with my 5 sisters and 2 brothers to watch this! And especially bcuz Scott Baio was starring in it. We’d hurry through the front door and then rush upstairs to our room , throw our many school books down on our beds then rush backdown stairs, turn the TV on ABC which was channel 8 and get ready to watch it. We’d run to the kitchen to get all kinds of snacks too. Our Dad was a narcotics officer as we grew up in SoCal and it was a must for all of us to watch this one. I’ll never forget it. Brings back so many great memories and I wish I could go back to the time. Things were different and much simpler. We would always watch the ABC After school specials and we’d get so bum if there wasn’t going to be one on for that week. But still good memories and times.

After 4 days I started to function but after a week ,I hated life , reality sucks sober now depression realization that my life is trashed . It took me a good 9mnths to get it together and finally move on with life , thank s dad 🥲, he died a few years later .I finally grew up thanks to him at age 50...

There was around 45 kids in my grade and I can only think of a handful that didn't use drugs in high school(small townthe 90s....there was nothing else to do). At least 20-25 of us became full blown addicts. Dare failed us spectacularly. If anything it taught us what good drugs should look like when they brought in the brief case in with different drugs the police had confiscated.

There actually is some truth to this. I used to be a stoner back in the day, then I grew up and slowly started to leave it behind. I used it for a very long time too, years and years. But now I don't use it anymore. Occasionally I may have a tiny drop of cbd oil and that's alright. But I used to rely on it for making music and trying to think outside the box. But after letting it go, my music has actually gotten better now when I listen and compare it to my previous work. I've actually been feeling a lot more creative with my song writing and have done some pretty cool stuff. Before, I would only have like this 30 minute window of using grass to help me make music, but then when it was gone, I was too tired to do anything with the song. So I basically ended up with tons of song ideas that I never got around to recording. But now, I'm able to commit to every song idea I have now and weed out the ones that aren't the best. The truth is that I was forced to quit all of the drugs I was taking because of a severe medical condition. I believe it was god's way of taking me off drugs. Well, over time, I started to heal and here I am! Good as new, except I don't have anymore drug habits and I actually feel more free to be honest, like truly free! I still enjoy the same things that I did when I used drugs, in fact, they're 100 times more enjoyable now. I do more exercise and sports and I'm basically heathy again. I realized that I was always naturally high and I never really needed drugs. Now I'll be honest, I do miss those old days, I had some gnarly trips not just with grass, but psychedelics. I used to chain smoke like Hunter S. Thompson. I used to drink, and take whatever came my way. But now, I'm free! I still struggle somedays with fatigue and not getting things done, but it's not like before. I have more will power now and I'm able to plan things out better if I failed something that I want to try again. I'll probably have another doobie someday in the future, I mean that's reality, but I'm 100% sober most of the time now, not even caffein and I feel great! A prescribed amphetamine almost made me lose my life one night, and I'm never going back to that.

🙂👽❤‍🔥As a Gen-X'er who grew up in the 80's, seeing these After School Specials and the commercials with them really brings me back to my youth. In my mind, I see myself as a kid again, paling around with my friends in the old neighborhood Uptown, Pittsburgh. In the summer we'd play ball in the streets, or games like Hide and Go Seek, It Tag, and Release the Den. Then turn on one of the fire hydrants to cool off from the heat. The topics of discussion were the girls that we crushed on, Transformers, or the things we wanted to do when we were older. Even though I grew up in the ghetto with whores on the corners, junkies on the streets, the occasional shooting up on Fifth Avenue, and having to deal with racism as a little white man, life was so much better. Even though we saw the end of a community that we were a part of that had ethnic fellowship and was tribal and cared about its members. With all of their information and the convenience that they afford, life was simple before the advent of the Internet and cellular phones. What angers me is how our kids are corrupted at such a young age now by the amount of hardcore sex that they're exposed to. Any and all websites that contain adult material should be identified by the suffix of .xxx in their addresses, but they're not.

I do give him kudos for playing incompetent attorney Bob Loblaw on "Arrested Development". I think he was Barry's nemesis the Bluths hired when Barry just wan't cutting it for them.
