this is one of their masterpieces. this song is one of those songs that while it lasts, when you are listening to it, you think "this song is perfect, this is the best song in the world, ever". sure, when it ends you can think "nah, it's good but it's not the best song ever", and then you play it again and you think "YES, IT IS THE BEST SONG EVER!".

They created musical masterpieces from their private drama. You can hear the pain and the emotions and that it is authentic. I have so much respect, that they were mature enough to still do music together, to write about their heartbreak and do music videos.

The secret of the voices of Agnetha and Frida was that they fit together, how rarely do two voices fit together. They always stood face to face during the recordings so that they could see when they were singing and when they started. Often times it sounds like it is a single voice. That's just awesome.

The key to this song is "honesty," and, yes, Agnetha is,"very pretty," as most obvious Latinos such as Dereck comment about blondes, but MANY have commented in other sites that it was really Frida who was at the height of her beauty.

  • @boosuedon

Frida is a natural beauty. She is class, grace and more of a reserved presence. Strangely though she is the one that is the most playful of the two. Agnetha is more of the sex kitten.

The music video for "Knowing Me, Knowing You" depicts the band against various colored backdrops singing while facing each other, turning away as a new line is sung. At the end of the video, the band's female members are seen walking away through thick snow. The video was directed by future Academy Award nominee Lasse Hallström and is a landmark in his career alongside most other videos of the band which were directed by him.[

Good analysis. I was 14 years old when I bought 1976 the LP Arrival with Knowing Me Knowing You beeing the last on side A. Immediatelly I recogognized the sadness of the song that became the DNA of ABBA since the mid 70s. In the early 70s (Ring Ring, Waterloo, Honey Honey) the character of the songs was more optimistic, more rocking (So Long). Knowing Me Knowing You was the TURNING POINT to the long phase of top sadness songs like One of US, The Winner takes it all and (the climax of sadness...) The Day before you came. Probably parallel to the divorce of the two couples....

I agree, this song foreshadows the break-up of Bjorn and Agnetha; and Benny and Anni-Frid. Another "sadness" song is "When All Is Said and Done" that was in their last studio album, "The Visitors". Another theme that I noted in their first album, "Ring Ring", is a folk music style found in several of their songs ("People Need Love", "He Is Your Brother") that parallels American "flower power" folk music popular from 1970-73.

What was great about Abba was that they were older than their contemporaries, they all had children and divorces behind them which expressed itself in their music. They were offered a million to perform once again a few years back. They did not agree nevertheless, Cher has remade some of their Songs. In Sweden they have an Avatar Museum where you can SING 🎤 along with this Incredible International group. Thanks 😊 for this music Reaction...it reminds me of my adolescence. 🙇🏻‍♀️🔍🎤🎶☝🏽💎🎵🌍

Good analysis, as usual, Dereck. You are an intelligent analyst but one word of advice is rather than pausing the video 7/8 times which does break the continuity of the song, then try to pause, say 3/4 times and combine your astute observations then. Good Luck :)

One of my faves! glad you noticed the pauses of the song and just appreciated the emotion that was also there, in the melody, very smart. Younger generations tend to overlook those details and layers in music for some reason, the music industry picked up on that and i think it's the reason the quality lowered quite a bit and mainstream music didn't just become simpler, but simplistic. I like that you pick up on things so fast and accurately, maybe pause a little bit less, not to please anyone in particular, i think it will allow you to pick up on even more details, then you can react and then give us your insight, i think it will make for an even better reaction because you do make great observations, and you're cute, so don't take it as a harsh criticism lol, keep up the good work ;)

the hint of Swedish yodel the girls do in the chorus is cool! (breaking up is never easy I know but I have to go) and on the track Move On as well.

After the chorus, the music comes back in almost regimented. Like BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM.

You need to check out Fleetwood Mac's Rumors album. This album, which is one of the best selling albums in history, was all about the infidelity of the band members. The members were in relationships with other band members and cheating with other married members all in the same band. It is an incredible album.

I can't understand why people think it's about some pervy teacher! It's the teacher who is the victim of a schoolgirl crush!! Why should he be arrested if he didn't do anything wrong. LOL.
