"Dancing" wasn't their thing, which is why I love them even more....like another group Boney M, they just didn't care & did their own thing, no choreography just impulse & It endeared them to so many people. This is one of their strongest vocal performances after Chiquitita. Voulez Vous was one of their best albums vocally ............... PS Hazell Dean is an english female singer who had a handful of mainstream hit's (in the UK) in the 80's, she was known as a High Energy Artist who's music evolved through the British gay scene and got onto the mainstream charts. She is best known for her No 6 hit "Searchin" She released an album called "Hazell Dean Sing's ABBA" . She still tours the UK performing at various venues and music festivals & has a very large following.

Is there any other sound more heavenly than Frida and Agnetha harmonizing? They both are fantastic singers in their own right but when their voices combined, that magical third voice came out and they excelled. Astounding what they could do with their voices. When the 1978 Japan special was taped they actually performed the song to an earlier mix. You can watch the original broadcast of the song here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lnqqyaSNgbvAj7w.html. Before the track was released on the 1979 Voulez-Vous album, further overdubs were done on it. I love the fact that Frida in particular really went for it in this performance. She was on fire! Dereck, another Voulez-Vous track you will definitely enjoy is "As Good As New": kzread.info/dash/bejne/qWeJr8hrYMybeco.html. It's bursting with energy. Enjoy!

This was set to be the lead single of the "Voulez Vous" album, that's why they actually started performing this in different countries. But then the Music for Unicef concert came along, which meant lots of exposure for whatever they performed, and they switched to Chiquitita as it was a better fit for the event. This one got lucky as the long album version of "Summer Night City" was left out completely and "Lovelight" was downgraded to "Chiquitita"'s b-side. Fun fact: the audio you heard is the album version, the video originally featured an early mix of the song with a different arrangement. Anyway, if you think they are showing off their legs here you should check out the "ABBA Made in Sweden for Export" special from 1975. It's only about 10 minutes but was a major part of their early promotion as it was broadcasted in different markets.

It was fun watching your reaction because that's the way I feel every time I hear this song. It's impossible not to get swept up in the vocals, the strings, the piano, the melody and the great beat. The Voulez-Vous album is filled with some really great dance songs like this one. "As Good As New" is another banging track, unfortunately, no video though. "Angel Eyes" is another standout as well as "Kisses of Fire" which is a really banging track and "Lovers (Live a Little Longer)" which Frida really stands out on.

As usual, nice to hear and see your reactions to this wonderful band ! I’m amazed you haven’t reacted yet to « Thank you for the music » - another great and famous ABBA song ! I’d be glad to see what you think about it, another masterpiece from this wonderful band.

The 70's were full of crisis and difficult changes. ABBA arrived on the scene and gave us a shot of pure musical joy, pure enthusiasm in music. Two more lesser known gems in this vein are "Lovers Live a Little Longer" and "Boomerang"(official video, they're so young). Also, Agnatha's solo "The Angels Cry" will blow your mind.

Fantastic song! Love ABBA with their beautiful voices but in this song there are so many more facets that are mezmorizingly hypnotizing: bass, lead, piano, innovating little singing ploys .... including the long drawn out ”if it....... wasn’t..... For the nights!” Brilliant.

If memory serves me right, this song was arranged by Anders Eljas, a true musician. He made everything so lively. He was later involved in Benny & Bjorn's "Kristina fran Duvemala", for orchestration. This video is from ABBA Japan.

Hey Dereck, this is one of the top 3 ABBA disco dance hits I almost request every time at the Gimme Gimme Disco ABBA inspired dance venue traveling all over the U.S. The other 2 are- Angel Eyes and The Winner Takes It All. You need to hear As Good As New from their Voulez Vous album too.
