It´s definitely play-back, but I don´t care! I love them, their songs and their crazy outfits! 😊😊
ABBA the best Pop-Band on Planet Earth! 💓💓💓
ABBAMAN.. this is definitely not vocally live it is the exact studio recording. I have a terrific ear and can tell the difference this is the song that got me to start buying Abba not Waterloo. Apparently they thought this was not the right follow up because it didn't chart that well but I think it was a great follow-up and I still love it almost 50 years later it's a great pop song period!!

It was a top 10 hit in UK by another band who released it making an average cover to this (comparing it to Abba)but Abba's version did it quite well in other countries.USA top 30, some top 10/t0p 5 in European countries and in Germany No2 where they stayed in the top 5 selling chart for 4(!) whole months (16 weeks) out of its 22 weeks residency in there. Not bad for 4 Swedish 'newcomers'.

Its a very nice tune, hard not to love Gene 🤩🤩🤩
Many Abba tv apearences that got uploaded in utube have got a 'live' indication but only meaning it's their in physical presence in front of a live audience and not them singing live or providing a filmed promo clip.Personally i wouldn't care at all if its live or not cause it's so euphoric for mewatching them 'struting their stuff'.It 's impossible not to smile.

best regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷 South America congratulations on your reaction to "Honey honey" very good and catchy song It is from the post "Waterloo" era of 1974, when ABBA was looking for its second success, and the revival of "Ring ring", plus the singles "Honey honey" and "So long" did not achieve great impact and they had to wait for 1975 with the approach of "I do I do I do I do I do" and the definitive impact of "S.O.S." that will start your unbroken chain of successes "Honey honey" is from the group in which The boys on the one hand and The girls on the other sing verses in solo responding, as in the debut: "People need love" and the following: "He is your brother" and: "Love isn't easy" "Honey honey" also is the last song recorded by ABBA in swedish too These is a TV perfomance in Germany 1974, with the smash hit "Waterloo" in first time The costumes they use are Superheroes with superpowers, they did it in 1974 from the promotional video for "Ring ring" 2:16 Note: the TV host introduces the girls as 'Anna Frida' and 'Anna' ABBA had just won Eurovision and weren't massively famous yet, and since Agnetha was difficult to pronounce she uses 'Anna' (just like in Eurovision) to facilitate ABBA's popular and commercial insertion. in fact, in 1975 ABBA was not yet massive and you can see Agnetha and Frida wearing their names on the back of their iconic cat dresses
This is pure, perfect, beautiful, mystical, surreal ABBA ,bringing joy and ecstacy to the ears eyes and mind to dwell in our souls
I'm a huge Frida fan (as my username entails) and always thought this was one of her best performances. She's really hamming it up and I love it.

It's clearly a play-back of the record. I've always loved Honey Honey, for me it's the perfect second single and I enjoyed it a lot when they played it on the radio when I was 6. Sure they had fun, it was the beginning and I imagine them looking at each other with those costumes and laughing before going to stage. Don't worry David, with this pace, we'll be 5 more years watching your reactions because there are several albums to come and even many more non-album tracks that we'll tell you where they are. I'm staying! You may not be able to relate to this...but...I became an ABBA fan after hearing Dancing Queen. Thinking back I realize how late I was to the party. But I became obsessed with Dancing Queen and Then Knowing Me Knowing You. I decided to go to the record store and buy ARRIVAL. When I got there I saw ABBA' S Greatest Hits. And decided to get that instead. I got home and started to listen...and realized I knew SOS, Waterloo and Fernando. I fell in love with the rest of the album. At the time most of what was in the charts was either American or British. But Sweden 🇸🇪? That was so exotic...I think the only things I knew about Sweden was Pippi Longstocking and that it was cold! But something captivated from the start and still does... there. Is something inherently Swedish in ABBA music. I love that "foreign" sound hidden in the music. Now I love all things Swedish. Except, Ikea furniture...I can never put the furniture together!!!

yes...'insanely happy !'' that short period of glam rock days
This was the East German TV show "Ein Kessel Buntes." It was broadcast six times a year and had a huge budget to feature the biggest local and foreign stars. Many artists used (and still use) playback because it was impossible to perform live on TV for technical reasons. E.g., if they were not happy with the studio's local acoustics, etc. A lot of half-playback was also used, where artists sang live to already recorded music. But don't worry, there are several TV shows where ABBA sing live! Great reaction, as always. One more song and then expect a roller coaster of many unexpected surprises 🙌

I think they smile and have fun in most all of them, they enjoy what they do. Indeed!
Its playback. Most of ABBA's TV appearances were to playback, they never really thought they captured the ABBA sound live. There are though a few TV moments when they do perform live, 3 songs in their 1978 Japanese special with an orchestra, the UK Top of The Pops appearances because a musicians union at the time insisted on it being live and the backing tracks being recorded with British musicians, and the 1981 Dick Cavett meets ABBA TV concert is completely live. Frida said of Honey Honey "Agnetha and I tried to sound a little sexy on it, I;m not sure we succeeded".
Agnetha, Frida - girls, you are the best!
I like this song and it's a fun performance, playback or not. Speaking of ABBA, we've been bugging Tommy about re-recording some of his ABBA covers and he promised there will be ABBA song soon 😀

Yes ABBA is a great band, they are very unique, and that needs attention, even at a younger generation 🙏🏻😊😊😊
Playback. But ABBA did perform this during their concert tours in 1974-75. Played live, it had a very obvious Reggae rhythm. Other songs from that period that had that flavour were 'Sitting In The Palmtree' and 'Tropical Loveland'. Although there were hints to the classic 'ABBA sound' on the first two LP's, it really starts to emerge on 1975's self-tiled album.
This is just a magical song ! .. One of their most melodic and joyful .. Heard it hundreds and hundreds of times and NEVER tire of it .. And this video is just wonderful .. They look fantastic, and in particular my heart-throb, Agnetha ! .. Thanks for the great reaction to it. 👍👍

Oh my god, you just put me back into my childhood. This song is my very first experience with ABBA that I remember. I was about 5 or 6 years old. Back then most of these songs in Germany on TV were playback or half playback. As far as I remember when they were singing livecthey had these big hand microphones. And the music was almost always playback. As you can see, Björns guitar isn't hooked up to an amplifier. So I am pretty sure it's a playback. Love it anyway. Childhood memories ❤️❤️
@GivenToe

It sure is playback, but lovely nonetheless 🙏🏻😊❤️
It was very common practice for any band appearing on TV, to mime in order to promote their, 'latest hit.' These were never, 'live', but were more a, 'TV performance', put on for the show in question. You don't hear them play, but you do, sometimes, get to see them perform. I love both Ana-Frid and Agnetha's looks to camera on this. They always have a way as though they're actually singing to you, personally. And, it usually has the same effect. It still makes me feel like the coy, bashful little boy who first saw them on TV in the mid 70's!
Thank you so much for posting this video, I have never seen this one before. You always amaze me! I hope that you are better now, I'm always watching!!!

I never get tired of this pure pop song. It’s a total joy. Definitely a playback. Notice how the song fades out at the end, how Benny sings along (barely) although it’s Bjorn’s vocals on the bridge. They often used playback on their tv appearances with a few rare exceptions (there are live versions of Mamma Mia, Dum Dum Diddle and Dancing Queen to be found among others). It’s too expensive to fly a band around to all their appearances and tv shows liked to know the exact time of the songs to be able to produce an accurate segment.

Somebody in Germany (the ABBAs sic!) had the notion, that Agnetha was to difficult to pronounce for us Germans, so they re-christened her to Anna, which led others to believe, she had the double name Anna Agnetha. Yes, it's playback - it must be annoying to lipsync when there's fade-out in the end, and to decide when to quit "singing". I've always wondered how it sounds to the live audience in the tv studio, when everybody is just faking it. I mean, can you pretend to play piano or drums without making a sound? Or is the playback music so loud that you can't hear anything else? 🤔 My favourite performance of Honey Honey is from Musikladen tv special (1976) - the women absolutely at their most gorgeous! And the guys look nice too in their blue satin suits... 🤪

The song is playback.
These are lip syncing performances. Abba rarely did actual live singing TV performances. You could count them on one hand. There was an Arrival TV promo show where they did live. A Super Trouper TV promo where they did some live performances. And I think a latter one with one or two Visitors live tracks. You can always tell the live performances as you wont hear the high harmonies that overlay most Abba tracks. The Live Money Money Money being a classic case of that. You only here the low part in the chorus. You may like some of the live Australian concert tracks which were live, although some required some overdubs because of sound capture issues. They were the best produced by far. Subsequent tours were paired back and anaemic in comparison.

YEAHHH!The Aussie tour as featured on ABBA THE MOVIE film is an electric Abba live experience with a really hysteric sweaty crowd! The best one for me.Unbelievable!
Seems like lipsync to me. Might be worth comparing the official studio recording with the sound of this recording. Their body movements and how they are using their chest and abdomen and neck and face don't look like they're actually singing live. In fact the music and vocals were still fading out after they had stopped pretending to sing.
It sounds like the studio recording they are lip syncing to. It's not live.
