It gives me great pleasure to see you enjoy the songs of ABBA ABBA was really a very talented and versatile group, two excellent musicians and songwriters and two top female vocalists like Agnetha & Frida (before ABBA they each had her solo career in Sweden) "Gimme gimme gimme (a man after midnight)" is a song influenced by American disco, after the success of the Bee Gees and the movie 'Saturday night fever " In this song you can see part of the volume and range of voice that the blonde Agnetha has These is the only oficial vídeo to could see ABBA un studio recording The vídeo is a short versión, the recording of the single is more than 4 minutes (with a solo instrumental) For next reactions I suggest you the classic worldwide hits of ABBA: Mamma Mía, Fernando, Chiquitita Thank you again for these video See you in the next GOD bless you

I agree! Those two voices blend and match like no others have before or after. This is one of my favorites of their songs. Keeps running around in my head now and then and I can't help it. It should have been a more mega hit than it was at it's time. "Take me through the darkness..." Maybe it's just a song for many. But for me it's bigger and more than just a song. I love it. Thank you!

Agneta (the blonde one) and Bjorn (the one without the beard) had already separated by the time they recorded Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! They officially divorced in 1980. Frida and Benny were having marriage difficulties too and divorced a year later. They were the biggest pop group in the world and the pressure must’ve been horrendous. Agneta didn’t like flying or touring and it’s reported was a big factor in the band separating. The musical direction was also changing at the start of the new decade (1980s) with the dawn of the new romantics era and soft rock/heavy metal bands entering the scene. They would’ve needed to have had a seismic shift in musical direction to remain at the top and I think they did the right thing by ending whilst they were still at the top. To this day, their musical ability and talent is unmatched. I still love them and listen to their music regularly.

Some "Younger " people think that ABBA sampled Madona on - WELL IT`s of cause The Oppppppposite ABBA`s Made Gimme Gimme Gimme 30 year`s Before Madonna was alowed to sample part of this heres the Story : Madonna ended up ‘begging’ Abba to use sample - And she got her way in the end By NME 18th October 2005. - " Madonna has revealed that she wrote a letter to the members of ABBA begging to use their music on one of her tracks. The star wanted permission to sample The Swedish PoP Titans’ Massive 1979 Disco Hit ‘Gimme, Gimme, Gimme (A Man After Midnight)’ for her latest single ‘Hung Up’, out on November 7. Songwriters Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus very rarely allow other artists to use their tracks. - Speaking to Attitude magazine, Madonna said: “I had to send my emissary to Stockholm with a letter and the record begging them and imploring them and telling them how much I worship their music, telling them it was an homage to them, which is all true. “And they had to think about it, Benny and Bjorn. They didn’t say yes straight away. They never let anyone sample their music. They could have said no. Thank God they didn’t.” Andersson was recently quoted as saying: “We get so many requests from people wanting to use our tracks but we normally say no. This is only the second time we have given permission.” “We said yes this time because we admire Madonna so much and always have done. She has got guts and has been around for 21 years. That is not bad going.” ( split the royalties ) ABBA previously gave The Fugees permission to use a sample from their track ‘The Name of the Game’ on their 1996 single ‘Rumble In The Jungle’. Madonna’s new album ‘Confessions On A Dancefloor’ is out on November 21. ‘Hung Up’ is the first single to be lifted from the follow-up to 2003’s ‘American Life’. "

Love your abba reactions and see you becomming so happy ;-) About the harmony vocals, yes there wasn't autotune but what they did is overdubbing the voices with their synthesisers and pitched it to almost unreachable high notes. this was done and mixed in their studio. Life they had extra vocal backsingers making the same harmonic and full sound.

to answer specialy Your question: 5:15 "Gimme gimme gimme" is in the middle of 1979, before the ABBA Tour to América and Europe at these time, the blonde singer Agnetha and the guitarist Björn was separated (at end of 1978) with two very young children your official divorcie was in middle of 1980; after these, Björn wrote the lyrics of "The winner takes it all' (the melody from Benny was before) another comment: the amazing introduction and ending in keyboards was used for Madonna to your song "Hung Up" (with credits to Björn & Benny, the songwriters of ABBA)

Thanks for the ABBA reaction. Great song. So this would have been while they were in middle of the divorce. I know it all gets confusing. Another thing to keep in mind is even though Agnetha sang "The Winner Takes It All" Bjorn wrote those lyrics and said he would have loved to have sang it. But he knew Agnetha would do it so much better. Another great ABBA breakup song but done by Frida is "Knowing Me Knowing You". So it wasn't just Agnetha doing the breakup songs.

The song that indicated the start of Relationship trouble for the group ironically was Marionet, which I noticed you haven't reviewed yet. You really should. It wasn't really considered per se a hit for them, and I don't know why. The best version of it was in their movie which was called (ABBA The Movie) in 1977. The song parallels how they were constantly flying around the world and performing. This shows them flying to Australia. Agnetha had at least one child at this point and wanted to stay home, or at least in Sweden. Bjorn was her husband, but she had bad relations with Benny whom was Frida's husband and more or less the lead, or head of the group. He pushed for them to tour world wide while they were on top. What is also interesting is that ABBA, and the Beatles both made movies, and or Video's of their music before anyone else had thought of it. Most performances that you would see on TV back then was from variety shows, or film footage from concerts. The Beatles and ABBA actually made video's so they could ship their songs around for people to view. M tv was 10 to 15 years away when they did this. The Monkeys also made video's but it was because they used them in their half hour kids show that was basically 19 minutes of them and 11 minutes of commercials. That was the way TV worked back then. So they would run around and play out the episode for give or take 15 minutes, and they would throw the 3 to 4 minute song video in the end of the episode and then maybe a couple of minutes to wrap up the episode story. I didn't mean to get on a rant here. My main point is that if you haven't seen Marionet by ABBA, please consider it, and look into The Monkey's, I think you will be surprised.

At this point both couples were still married. In 79 ABBA embarked on a massive tour of the US and Europe I was lucky to be at one of the 6 concert nights at Wembly London. IT put a great strain on Agnetha as she hated flying and it meant long periods away from her two small children about 8 and 4 at the time. The tensions finaly split her and Bjorn apart and Benny and Frida divorced a year later (rumour was an affair on his part)

And you wonder why Madonna wanted to use that intro sequence in her Confessions album in Hung Up. She actually begged ABBA to be able to use . Why ? Because it was so damn good , that's why! Another masterpiece from ABBA, timeless ! They'll be hearing this stuff in another 45 years , yep !

I'm sorry I've been a fan of ABBA since I was an eleven year old kid watching them win Eurovision; laughed at and bullied until they started hitting it big in the charts in '76. THIS is THE Disco Song ~ kzread.info/dash/bejne/mXhqxbJ-YqWumcY.html Sylvester will always be the Queen of Disco; even over Donna Summer or Gloria Gaynor. kerk
