ABBA - Cancelled Cartoon Series | 1976/77
Музыка
Let’s explore ABBA’s cartoon series from 1976/77 that never happened. All we have are two unique cartoon videos for the songs "Money, Money, Money" and "Happy Hawaii". In this video, we travel back in time to take a look into this abandoned project, and wonder what could have been.

I'd love if an Abba cartoon would've been made of 'Eagle' - such lyrics could've been a great subject matter for majestic images. 😊
Oh man I would have loved this. I know they wanted to cast different people, but Frida's speaking voice is so soft and relaxing. She could have been the Mother of ASMR alongside Bob Ross. Have a great time on your summer vacation! I'll be at home doing nothing 😞

Potentially a Nice comfort cartoon like the early days of SpongeBob SquarePants
I had heard that they were in discussions for a cartoon series and I think that would’ve been a wonderful idea. Abba were a kid friendly group that would’ve been perfect for a syndicated cartoon series and their music was good for children as well as adults. What would be interesting as how they would draw out their personalities because cartoons are always exaggerated versions of the truth when it comes to real life people
As an Aussie kid during the 70's, I remember seeing the animated clip of "Money Money Money" on a News program. I always wondered where it was from, and why I never saw it again. Now I know. Thank you Bobby's Brother!
Eu amo todos os vídeos e documentário sobre ABBA , obrigado pela postagem.
An Abba cartoon would have been awesome..Thanks for this vid.Have a nice vacation.Take care..
Some of the outtakes/B-sides would of made nice cartoon videos. Like "Put on Your White Sombrero, I Am The City, Elaine, Lovelight, Crazy World etc."
Great to see this video Thank you so much 💕🎼🎶🎵🕺🌈
I would have loved to see an Abba cartoon series.x

Me to.It looks cute and goes well with there sense of humor.
Oh Man 😭 As a ABBA mad 3 year old in 77 here in Australia 🇦🇺 I would’ve loved this
Very cool! Thanks! BTW, shortly after the Voyage concerts started there were tons of videos showing up on youtube, taken by attendees. They got taken down eventually but having seen a lot of it, as well as the official released images/video, my impression is that they really nailed the likeness of every member...except Agnetha. Her ABBAtar looks the least like her IMO, which is a shame (since I'm an Agnetha fan). I remember people involved in the show said that it was hard to get consistency - an ABBAtar would look correct from certain angles but from others might seem off. Getting it right from every angle was a challenge. For some reason, inferring from the results, Agnetha apparently was the biggest challenge. I wonder why.

I agree Agnetha is the most disappointing likeness.

Aggies abbatar looks cartoon is while the others look real
Cool! Love the animation style - thanks for the research/info, Bobby’s Brother!
Money, Money, Money is my favorite song.
This looks so fabulously trippy, which is odd considering that ABBA is notorious for being totally sober and straightlaced. It is interesting that "Happy Hawaii" was the subject of one of these episodes. I have a theory that the "Medley: Pick a Bale of Cotton/On Top of Old Smokey/Midnight Special" medley must have been recorded specifically for the cartoon series project. I just cannot fathom that they recorded it for an album or for some kind of artistic purpose. It's pure commercialized psychedelic cheese and it must have been the soundtrack for a... trippy... sequence!

The medley was recorded for a West German charity album in 1975. They were all public domain songs so that no songwriter royalties were paid and more money from sales went to the charity.
I would have liked to see these following songs in the cartoon: When I Kissed The Teacher, Knowing Me Knowing You, Mamma Mia, My Love My Life, Dancing Queen, Dance (While Music Still Goes On), Honey, Honey and Hasta Manana.
Such a shame this project was cancelled, 5 year old me would've loved this (and adult me too!!) As it was an Australian single and one of my absolute favourite ABBA songs, I'd have loved I've Been Waiting For You to get the cartoon video treatment.
Bobby’s brother, maybe you could do an episode about ABBA and children’s shows. They did a couple of UK children’s shows, Blue Peter was one of them. The other was a United States kid show in the New York City area called Wonderama. There must be some kind of marketing ploy here they want to reach young children and teenagers obviously. That is why the cartoon makes a lot of sense. Have you sensed that they wanted to reach very young people as well as adults?
...what a shame we didn't get the cartoon series, it would've been so popular. The cartoon likeness to ABBA are really spectacular. I would have l❤️ved to see If it Wasn't For The Night's,When I Kissed The Teacher, Sitting in A Palm Tree 🙉, Dance(while the music still goes On), Eagle, I Am The City...i could go on and on and on!..on another note, i taped the documentary ABBA against The Odds a few weeks ago and finally got around to watching it...the first 10mins took me 30mins to watch and the first hour watched took me another 90mins to watch! It was so interesting with a few new unshown photos, so that's why i had to keep rewinding and rewatching the documentary....i really enjoyed it. Enjoy your travels BB, have fun and take care...🚆✈️🧳🤗
Have a wonderful holiday! Love your channel 😊
A fact I dug out of a Hawaii newspaper the Honolulu Advertiser radio charts from that era is that Happy Hawaii was a hit in the Hawaiian Islands, a top 10 pop hit, from a B side.
Thanks, Bobby's Brother. Please enjoy your holiday!
I wonder if they would have animated 'The Girl With The Golden Hair' mini musical, if the show had made it into late 1977, around the time ABBA the album was released. I could see a lot of the Waterloo album making it into the show like 'Sitting in the Palm Tree' and 'King Kong Song', As they are very story driven songs and light for a Cartoon Audience. I don't know if the show would have made it further then the Super Trooper era. As the Visitors era probably would have got a bit too adult for a young audience and ABBA's popularity in Australia started to really drop after Super Trouper. 'The Piper' would have been a great song for a show like this with it's fairy tale vibes and 'Eagle' would have been a really well realised video I think in animated form.
Being made in Australia, I would love to have Bang a Boomerang in the show.
An edited version of INTERMEZZO #1 as the intro and an edited version of ARRIVAL as the intro. Every ABBA song is qualified for a cartoon and we don't know how long the show may have lasted, if it would have been produced. My faves for an animstion: ON AND ON AND ON NINA PRETTY BALLERINA MOVE ON and many others.
I love Abba, but I do not think we needed a cartoon series.
Really surprised this wasn't made - it obviously got very close.
As I understood it, Happy Hawaii was only released as a B-side since a cartoon had already been made for it.
Happy Pfingstmonday😊🎉Abba forever❤❤

Happy Hawaii это песня счастья, очень помогают выйти из депрессии.
Ma chanson préférée est Happy Hawaii . Bonne vacances Bobby ❤ . Prenez soin de vous
Given that you say it was to be made here in Australia, perhaps they realised it might have been overexposure or a big flop. As it turned out, Australia suddenly turned off ABBA following the 1977 tour. It was dramatic - Arrival sold over 900,000 copies; The Album 50,000. The last number one here was Money Money Money. It suddenly became uncool to like ABBA, until the revival in 1992.
Safe travels BB!
Hi You ask what different song versions could go in. Of course a lot of people would say Dancing Queen than the different version of " Why it have to be me" and then calling it " Happy Hawaii " , but my personal favourites for during that time and for be ing on a plane would be " Arrival " and " Honey Honey " . Anthony UK.
Have a great vacation.
I think it could of been a good series, wonder why it never went ahead . I would of liked to see stories around the songs Suzy Hang Around and What About Livingstone as well as your namesake song Bobby's Brother
As a kid in Australia during the "ABBA Mania" period of 1975/76, I would have loved it. They unfortunately suffered from overexposure because they were everywhere and on everything. In hindsight, I think the cartoon would have led from adulation to prematurely loathing them (which happened anyway). Therefore, it was a good idea not to have gone ahead with It. Just my opinion.
😂that would have been Awesome!!!
I wonder how the personalities would’ve been drawn in the cartoon. Was Frida going to be the solution person? Was Agnetha supposed to be the bubbly airhead? Was Bjorn going to be bossy? Was Benny going to be passive and going along with everything? I just wondered how the personalities would’ve been bought out in a cartoon becausecartoons try to get the essence of a personality of a real life person in an exaggerated way

The cartoon is well known and not rare. In addition, the cartoon is extremely poorly made, even at that time there were better quality ones.

Why, young people were a huge market and reaching a younger market was whatever Abba wanted to do. Remember in the United States they chose a children’s show called Wonderama in 1977 to perform some songs and believe me as a young child in Long Island. I saw that everybody was talking about it the next day.
They got all the animated depictions as realistic as possible except for Agnetha
