Abandoned WW2 RAF Base and More

In this Video we travel to Bomber County for the weekend where we visit the abandoned buildings of RAF Bomber Command base, Woodhall Spa. From there we pay a brief visit to the International Bomber Command Centre near Lincoln, enjoy a drink in the Dambusters Bar at the Petwood Hotel and finish our weekend off by taking our new WW2 Nation drone into the air for the first time.
----IMPORTANT----
We are not Historians. We are two ordinary chaps who are learning about WW2 history and documenting our journey. We are exploring this period of history from the sides of both the Allies and Axis. Those with sympathetic views towards the Nazi regime or hold any type of extreme views are not welcome here on WW2 Nation.

It's good that someone has erected a memorial to the brave lads of Bomber Command who were so badly treated after the war.

I spent many years exploring abandoned airfields and would often ponder the abandoned buildings and think that many years back, they were a small self contained town ofcabout two thousand people.

Fantastic to see a part of the site most people don't even know is there :) Great job! I've been photographing the airfields of Lincolnshire for some years now and that's one area I haven't been able to visit (yet lol). The bomb stores are worth a look if you haven't already been. Did you get to look around Thorpe camp? One of my favourite museums, small but so many interesting items.

What a great video. The forest and grounds have really done a number on the old RAF area over the last 70 plus years haven’t they. The history of the bomber squads is so fascinating. Keep up the great work!

while you was at Woodhall Spa, did you visit its sister station at Meatheringham? The runways are now byways with a memorial on , the tower can be seen to. Across the road in the old airfield fire dept building are now various company offices( one used to belong to a customer of mine called Bracknell Roofing). Up until recently, the old bomb aiming was still as it was in WWII but now converted into a haulage office . The Meatheringham visitor center is next to the old airfield gymnasium, along with being a caravan site

Keep at it guys! Like that you are interjecting little historical stories about who was there at that very spot and what happened ect. I like to try and imagine what it must have been like and when you share a specific story about an actual person, it makes it easier and more interesting. 👏👏

Few years ago, myself and a colleague were working with the Tornado engineers and stayed at Petwood. We entertained the Sengo and his team to a superb dinner and, myself and colleague, after some night caps repaired to our rooms. There were only 4 people stayng that night. I was woken at three in the morning by the sound of loud laughter and scraping chairs and after 20 minutes of listening to it, I thought I would go and complain to the night porter or at least join the party. When I found him, and told him, without a word, he poured me a large scotch and said, there was no one in the hotel apart from we four guests. My colleague also heard the noise as well but managed to go back to sleep. I dont believe in ghosts but it certainly made me think. The night porter seemed to know.

If you ever go to the Ardennes i'd recommend going to La Gleize, there is an King tiger set up as an monument, it is an amazing sight to witness, and the museum next to it is fantastic as well!! From your fellow World War 2 KZreadr!!!! I have been there myself and it is in my Battle of the Bulge trip videos!!!

Some of the pubs near UK airbases that are still in business since WW2 have bomber and fighter crews signatures on the ceilings. We found a few 49 years after D Day.
