Those paper cups are 90's.There was also a credit card processor. Lay the card down , put a carbon copy receipt on top of card then slide the red thing over, have the customer sign it, give a copy to customer keep one for business. That is why credit cards were embossed.

I was just about to say that those cups have the Jazz design which came out in the 90s, so the diner operated atleast until then.

I still remember ever so fondly using those credit card processors. 😄 It was fun if you had your finger in a wrong spot and a bit of your skin got pinched when you rolled back and forth with the slider. On top of that, you had to act like nothing happened, because of course the customer was watching.

10:09 My dad enjoyed you trying to figure out the credit card printer ("It's not a reader!"). He says they would put your credit card on the metal brown bit towards the bottom right, and it would in print your credit card numbers as well as a charge. They would generally make 4 carbon copies, one for you, one for them, one for the credit card company (It would have to be mailed to them! Wild.). People would steal the carbons to get credit card numbers.

Really reminds me of a chain of old diners we had in Ottawa called "Rockin Johnnies". It's amazing to see the place in such good condition. I've found most diners end up pretty run down; this actually looks better than some of the places I've eaten in!

floor tiles and seats are from the early 70's, the drop ceiling is 80's, the wall paintings are from the late 80's, the styrofoam cups are from the late '80s or early '90s, cash register from the late '80s or early '90s, and the omelettes price were from the earlier '90s. so I guess the last served was before 1995.

The equipment and décor ranged from the mid 70s to the mid 80s. Based on the prices (though I'm not as familiar with historical Canadian currency values) the menu seemed to reflect the mid to late 90s. That's when I think the restaurant itself was shut down, even though you said the owner of the property sold it in 2005. So I think what we're looking at is a restaurant that used old equipment for a long, LONG time. That telephone was definitely circa 1980. The coffee machines were from the mid to late 80s. The Coke machine was early 80s, perhaps 79. Those manual credit card receipt machines mostly went out of vogue in the mid 90s. In the early 2000s you would still occasionally run across some old Mom & Pop stores that would pull one of those contraptions out. Very cool video, man. You guys are awesome. Thank you so much for making this! Ciao!

The “motor” is actually refrigerant lines and a compressor to help cool the cabinet. Serving veg, they need to keep it a certain cooled temperature. Also, the grimy under counter cabinet was a refrigerator. That temperature gauge monitors the temp inside it. 👍 Great to have you back! Great vid! 😊

I might be wrong. But those rolls of blue fabric were probably reusable drying towels for the bathrooms instead of paper towel. They went into a similar dispenser but you use a knob to roll out the sheet and the part that’s been used gets rolled back into the dispenser. Again I might be wrong.

Hmmm...I'd say this place started up at the very end of the 70s and died late 90s ish. Seat colors definitely 80s pastel. Most appliances fit the early to mid 80s and just never got upgraded. Those cups at 3:00 have the "Jazz" design which debuted in 1992. The CC cameras at 3:53 look to be Sanyo VCB‐3424 models which were B&W and sold from like 77 on. 15:37 check extinguishers for last inspection date, should give you an estimate for the closure within 12 months.
