Abandoned shed at my old camp and rail yard knowledge with caboose
My birthday isn't until July 12 but Larry got my present early. He got me a G scale grainer car and I show it at the end of this video.

RIP Shoestring, thanks for everything.
Godspeed Mr. Nichols, Thank you for all you gave, and have given.. You will be missed..✌
You don't need to be riding all the time Shoestring. I'm guessing lots of us enjoy just seeing the scenes of you wandering about out in the woods and would enjoy a tour of that old abandoned factory (or whatever it is) that you showed the smokestack of. Stuff like that. You have an audience. People even interested in your little plants you've put in here and there. I sure do. Just wander about all over and shoot whatever you bump into. Speaking for myself, I'll enjoy it. Because I enjoy YOU.

That metal is swarf, the smell is oil, and or mistic coolant, probably the latter. As soon as I saw it, my life returned to the early 80's when I was an Aircraft Component Engineer. The smell is still fixated in my brain. 👍😎👍🇬🇧MDS

A working caboose. WOW! That was interesting about how it gets power. Thanks, as usual, for your knowledge.
Caboose! Another American legend, on the extinct endangered list. Sure do miss them. 🛤️❣️
You’re fantastic. Growing up my father worked for Conrail then went to Amtrak. Some of my first memories were riding in the engine. Even had the privilege of driving it at the age of 12. I lost him in 2015. Thank you for bringing my railroad memories back. God bless and stay healthy

I loved the brief caboose tour. Nice to see that NS crew threw in an old recliner on the one end and a fan installed on the upper shelf on the other side. Anyone else notice the cooler and water case one of the crew left in the caboose? I haven't seen an apartment with a basement/upstairs combo like you have, that's cool. Another awesome vid here, Shoestring.
As a young man I had dreams of riding the rail like that, but too chicken. (rode motorcycles instead) Now I'm an old man and my health would NOT allow it! THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR EXPERIENCES WITH US, MAN!
Shoestring the Gardener!! Glad your feeling better shoe!!🙂
What a beautiful apartment you have. I like how clean and neatly you have decorated it. I think if you just keep displaying railroad memorabilia and keep furniture to a minimum it will be like a personal museum . Love your videos, hope your health stays with you.
I love how you just walk around like you own the place lol may the force be with you sir, I really enjoy ya!
Thanks Larry and David! Awesome additions for the collection! Hey Shoestring that car you called a odd ball carries switches! There strapped on the car! Glad the flowers are growing! Great video! Apartment looks good. Glad your feeling better! Any video you give us is a great video Shoestring!!

R.I.P. Shoestring 🕯 🕊
Shoestring keeps talking about empty yards. That’s the state of the American economy. I’m a truck driver and I will never forget 3 years ago driving by Port Elizabeth and seeing containers stacked on top of each other as far as the eye can see. I’ve been OTR for 20 years and that was the first time I ever saw the ports packed like that. That is the difference between today’s American economy and the economy of 2 or 3 short years ago. I wonder what changed?
So glad you are feeling better. Do yourself a big favor and all you fans………..take it easy for a while, give your body time to heal. You provide a lot of happiness to your fans! Looking forward to the next video my friend.
it;s been awhile Shoestring.......try Not to rush things,go slowly. Take care of YOU.....LATER
Thanks for everything you do! Blessings from colorado
Good to see you out and about!!
One of my favorite channels.
I didn’t know they had generators hooked up to the wheels on cabooses! That’s pretty cool! I see as there was more automation they didn’t need as many workers and got rid of them.
Back when Missouri Pacific was still Missouri Pacific and before they put oil in the caboose[crummy] my brother and I ,each November, would shovel 16 tons of coal onto the ground beside the crummy track. Back in the day they heated the caboose with coal. We made $30.00 each for the job. That was good money then.
I absolutely love hearing all the RR knowledge you give us in your videos. I especially love the historical stuff, its so fascinating. I wanted to be a hobo after i graduated, but before that i had a kid. Discovering you now tells me I'm not too old to start yet and probably have a decent amount of years i could ride before i couldn't handle it anymore

Those cabooses bring back good o memories. You don't see many of them on the rails anymore like you use to back in the day before FREDs, defect detectors, & dragging defect detectors.
Hi Hobo Shoestring! I grew up in Bristol, VA and the smokestack at minute 15:00 is the old Columbia Paper Mill, later became Tenneva Foods....at minute 16:45 is the old steam locomotive roundhouse, the turntable was filled in sometime in the very early 60's.....
Very happy to hear you're feeling better. Prayers &safe travels goin out to you Shoe 💖💖💖🚂🚂🚂
I owe most of my train hopping knowledge to Hobo Shoestring, and Stobe the Hobo. I'm so glad Shoestring is still out here showing us how it's done.
at 15:00 that was the Columbia Paper Mill built in 1900 then later it was Twin-Cities Iron and Metal. It is being redeveloped into condominiums by Stramco. 950 Fairview St.
Glad to know you are doing better and taking it easy. You have a really nice place now, and with time you will add furnishings. Stay well!
This is what I found on that site with the tower/smokestack. I found an article at the EPA that listed it as "Twin Cities Iron and Metal Site".
OMG!!! Those trucks on that caboose are so outlawed...........
@TheHoboShoestring
2 жыл бұрын
They're just not used much because they require maintenance so much. Not really outlawed. You still see them on cars that are used just locally because not many miles are put on them
When I was a young whippersnapper I loved watching the trains going by and I loved looking at the caboose'es on the end of the trains.

Me too! Quite often, there was someone waving back to us and we'd be so excited ☺️
The summer I turned 18, I lived right next to the depot in the tiny town where I called home. My sister (she was 15) and I spent that summer hitching rides. We made friends with the crew on the midnight freight train that came through every night. We rode in the locomotive the first two times, but it was cramped. I literally sat on the lap of one of the guys. Later, we rode in the caboose. It had bunk beds and a breakfast nook of sorts. No cupola. That was 1980 and it was BN back then.
0813 here at Tamoshanter Tasmania. Good Tassie morning to you. Love the guerrilla gardening.
I just love your teaching films. The sweet smell is the cutting oil used to keep the cutting heads cool in the machines.
Wow you moved. Big place, nice!
That smell on that scrap was machine tool oil and coolant. As soon as I saw those chips and you mentioned smell I knew exactly what you were talking about. Machine shop scraps.
I didn’t realize caboose were still around. It’s been years since I’ve seen them. Thanks, Shoestring.

I'm amazed at the length of american freight trains, they seem endless!
@freedomfan4272
3 жыл бұрын
It's not unusual for them to be over 10,000ft sometimes. Now days with PSR here in the US they have laid off people and that's another reason the trains are long also because they're adding trains together.
LARRY WAS TAKEN A LEAK !!!
I'm happy to see you're feeling much improved.

Always glad to hear back from my favorite youtuber.
Good to hear your feeling better 👍👍
Great to see and hear you again Mark, especially out on the track's on a summer's day, stay safe and well for the next trip, 👍👍👍👍.
Four generations of my father's family worked for the Canadian National Railway. The tracks were passing behind the family home, and I remember running to the back fence with my brother and cousins and counting the cars. That how I learned to count. Even now, I sometimes count cars when I see a train.
Glad to hear you're feeling better. Can't wait to watch you riding again.🌟
