I love the dam and the old mill. It's probably been 20 years or so since I took that same walk you did into the mill. Let me tell you. Those stairs were sketchy back then. A little worse now. It is a fascinating place for sure and the history of it is incredible. My family bought an old farmhouse below Austin after the flood. They got it real cheap since the entire main floor was packed with mud that had to be dug out by hand. Half the 2nd floor as well. It ha been a camp ever since. It sits right along 872 between Austin and Wharton. The farmhouse eventually got torn down as it was getting too expensive to maintain and a modular home was put in it's place. I remember as a kid seeing the difference in the trees and vegetation all through that valley. You could see how high the water was miles and miles below the dam. If you look closely around the George B. Stephenson dam you can still tell how high the water was there. It's crazy to think how much water came with such can incredible force. Very few had time to get to safety. I love the history of the Austin dam and all of Potter County. Great video even if you had the technical difficulties!

The town welcomed Bayliss with open arms, because he promised a lot of jobs. Timber companies had clear cut the area years earlier, and the idea was that new growth trees would not be good for timbering, but could be used for making paper. Bayliss' operation required an immense amount of water a day - which is why he wanted the dam as high as possible. I think he believed there was more flow in the creek than there actually was. I was at this location 4 months ago, but didn't have the guts to go off the road and bushwhack to the factory ruins. Glad you did and I can experience it this way. There was a very informative man with exhibits down at the dam ruins when I visited. I expected there was a large amount of remains of the factory. Those holes could be for wastewater related to processing pulp.

That place does have a crumbling beauty. The light and glowing green against the brick and concrete are quite artful, as is the reclaiming of masonary by nature. Returning the pebbles and clay to the earth we extracted them from. I love this stuff. Now that I'm older I see how fast time reclaims our human efforts. What seemed like ancient history to me as a teen now appears to be such rapid decay! I have to tell you how grateful I am for your vids. Amazing exploration, loaded with many interesting things. It's hard to imagine back in the mill's working days it was bustling with lots of activity, many people, traffic and producing tons of product. No matter what human's build, given enough time, God's wonderful creation will replace with vibrant life. All of that growth began as small plants and seeds and now they slowly, but surely, reclaiming the land. Oh... you want someone to yell at you for taking a possibly dangerous route that could have resulted in broken bones or worse? Wasn't going to do it, but okay if that's what you want...DON'T DO THAT AGAIN....off to the naughty corner with you. Speaking of bones, the ones downstairs added more than a pinch of creepy to a already strange lower level.

@Little PAW 1969 Thank you so it closed because of the flooding. Are they have flooding after that picture and it closed because of something else. Nice picture
Cool video
the mill looked a lil creepy -thanks for looking in every nock and crannie you could - very interesting
Careful going in to these places. We once knew of a farmer who got ground up in a grain auger. We like your videos and don't want anything to happen to you!
Step lightly 👁👁🦴
I found this place a few weeks ago. What I the story behind the holes????? It was pure luck that I found this place a few weeks after the snow melted. Or id be in the holes. So in love with this place.
You should check out Panther Caves in Venango County! Well worth the visit.
Probably a fire whistle going off for a call
Surprised ruins like this aren't posted with No Trespassing signs.
That place hold a lot of secrets there. You can see that thru the holes. I wouldnt want to explore that place at night Cliff.
Interesting video, nice to follow you. Those bones seemed too come from a human.
I showed my friends the woodsman and all they could say "hes soooo cute!"
We only go crook because we don't want you get hurt Cliff but yes interesting place
Ill bet the basement connects the buildings
That place could be very dangerous. Glad everything turned out ok. Cliff you are always eating. Lol 🍕🍔🍟
😳it looks like this place was badly done as the dam with so much concrete crumbling but very cool to see

It survived the dam burst in 1911. and another serious flood years later. Then finally closed for good after a major fire in the 40s so all in all, I'd say it was built quite well

The dam and paper mill are definitely worth seeing. And if you can make it out to the Kinzua bridge, you should.
My parents live in tioga county. They love it. So do I. We've been to shunk. I think thats potter county.
Inventing ducks: God said, "Somebody waterproof these chickens and give them kazoos!"

I think they are for water. This place processed wood pulp.
Great video, I really enjoyed all of it, I wonder how it's legal for any construction project to have numerous inspection during construction of any building, but when the building is abandoned, nothing is in place to enforce it's deconstruction,or it's removal and can remain standing for decades to rot away, and can also be a Hazzard.. but just my thoughts.. peace and God bless you...
I would like to see what that place looked like in it's day
I seen a wooden cross made out of sticks
I work at one in munising
Those bones
Should notify the authorities about the bones, you never know what the advancement in forensics can find. Justly my opinion
Did you report your leg bones?
Creed Bratton missed the spot check the last few years
This is so interesting but those holes makes me have a panic attack.Be care and dont fall in one of em.

Was that necessary at 9:39 ? 😂
That place is a death trap.
Great atmosphere for a horror movie.
Please take care! Have you got something on you that can you get to a signal if you fall in a hole and can't get up. Or if you find a body! You need have some one with you. I say this because I care.

I hope so! I'm a caring person. I enjoyed watching you going to all these places that are so beautiful. No longer able to walk.
They were definitely human bones! There was a radius, an ulna, and what looked like the lower part of a femur. You should report this to the police!!!
