so so sad, part of sydney for such a long time and was the jewel in the crown of the dirty disused harbour. No doubt apartments etc for the richer people of town . Great series
@JarradDRS Жыл бұрын
That's really quite sad. it was in need of update, but it feels like a fond childhood memory gone forever. At least I can say I visited Harbourside a few times over the last couple of years to refresh those memories.
@aussiejohn5835 Жыл бұрын
I can remember the railway yard in that spot and I can remember driving buses over the Pyrmont Bridge when it was the only Western entry to the city. A monthly update would be great. I never understood why people did all that walking when you could simply ride the bus, tram and train back and forth to clock up the required amount of trips.

Oooh you were/are a bus driver? That’s so cool! I recently saw photo’s from some time ago on Red Nose Day of a Tangara, XPT, Bus and Ferry at Darling Harbour

@Abandoned Oz I am retired after almost 50 years driving buses. I remember that photo and at the time every government bus driver was given a red nose to wear while working. It was incredibly uncomfortable. I also worked at Darling Harbour goods yard at the age of 12 for cash in hand daily payment. I helped load small parcels onto the trains for my uncle. Interesting times back then and very interesting to see the transition of Darling Harbour from a working rail yard to what it is today.

Awesome video. Heres a fun fact that people may be interested in know about. You may find onece the steel and metal been separated it's then taken off the demolition site to be sent to a scrap metal recycling centre to be melted down and the same for the concrete rubble that also gets sorted, broken down to smaller pieces that also taken off the demolition site then sent to a recycling centre to be crushed up and reused as road base so it can be used for other purposes instead of it being in landfill. When it comes to Asbestos that needs to be sealed up safely and sent to a registered landfill facility that dispose of asbestos material safely.

It would have been good to see the excavator with the jaws chomping away at the building. A bit late for that I guess. As for the question in the video, I'd be interested to see updates for whatever is replacing the shopping centre. Someone needs to document it.

Let it die gracefully, I have been trying to find photos or Videos prior to the Olympics facelift where you could sit outside at Mikes's bar and there was a Neptune theme and escalators where Andersons icecream has been for the last 20 years

Yes please show us the progress. Awesome Video. Never been there. But always loved seeing this location on videos. And on TV. I remember seeing it on TV when it was opened and being built. Forget what year. Regular Timelapses of the new buildings going up would be cool. Like do a 30mins to 1hr Timelapse on a tripod per 2 weeks and put together a month at a times worth in 1 video. From the bridge. Just an idea
@Divadosaurus Жыл бұрын
I always think of the song "Don't Tear it Down" when I watch these videos. I was at that exact spot a couple of days ago when doing a Vivid walk - I saw the pile and said to myself, "well the next update is gonna be short". Turns out it was long. For shits and giggles, I went to the 17 minute mark, muted, and played the Jurassic Park theme music. Worked pretty well.

Hey Phil. The next stage in the development will be removal of the Monorail station and footbridge and excavation of the basement. Some time next year construction is expected to start. So for the next 7-9 months they will be digging a hole.
